Since some of you may not have read the thread on housing multiple bp's...I asked a question and I am anxiously awaiting some intelligent answers.

    So I ask you...anybody...

What are the benefits of housing more than one bp in a single enclosure?

I am here curled up with popcorn and a blankie, anxiously awaiting people's replies on why BP cohabitation is better.
My thoughts? Because people are too cheap to buy and setup 2 cages. Because they want to save on space at their snake's expense. Or the popular "my snaikes LUB each otha!"
    :(

Your not going to get any.......

........that is unless my good buddy Serpent-Prey can go into a bit more detail on his vague claim that heating two enclosures in unhealthy...........

It always comes down to either owner convenience or bad examples set by retailers. I used to see the same crap with tropical fish.......people mixing wrong species, putting highly territorial fish in a community, ignoring sex ratios, etc.

The rationale is always the same - "store XYZ does it" or "I read in book ABC that it's okay".

..or my personal favorite - "I've been doing it for a year and have had no problems".

Well geesh louise Meme and here I thought all along you understood snakes!

The BEST, most WONDERFUL reason to house them in groups is so they can get a foursome together for a game of euchre. You want your poor snake to be stuck alone playing solitaire!!!!

Now the problem does remain that nobody has thumbs so shuffling the deck is tricky and usually at least two snakes ball up when you trump their ace....but well...you see my point don't you?

A newbie, especially a person new to snakes, could think that a snake is lonely, or if they get another snake before thinking about it, they house them together. Once they notice they're not fighting they keep 'em there. Or they just don't have the money to get another set-up. Believe me, herps are not the cheapest. I just spent $40 on a UTH, waterbowl and 2 hides! If that's not overpriced I don't know what is.
There are no benefits unless you breed.
The best way to get people from housing snakes together is to educate them.. :)

Well, you see, Ball Pythons don't have arms or legs, which makes resistance training alone nearly impossible and always futile. Pair this with the fact that many snakes are deprived of their 20 minutes of daily cardiac exercise due to most enclosures providing a square foot or less of floor space per foot of animal (which is quite impossible to zip around in long enough to reach an optimal cardiac rate), and you can see that animals left alone in an enclosure are much more likely to become obese and develop heart disease.

So you see, with two animals, they can entangle themselves and work against each other, allowing them to resistance train, and keep healthy. It is obvious that keeping any fewer than two animals is literally a death sentence, just a slow long one that lies at the end of the path of reptilian obesity.

Now, "why two animals, and not three or four?" you might ask. It only seems sensible that more animals would equal better overall health. Well, obviously, because if we allow more than two animals to co-habitate, the terrorist win.
