    Re: prekilling
You say you have it down to a science, but you didn't mention the preferred way of doing it! CO2 asphyxiation is the method that is used by nearly all breeders who put their own rodents down. If you search some you'll find links on how to build a "gas chamber". There are several different methods to use - CO2 tank (paintball tanks work), dry ice, or vinegar and baking soda are all ways to introduce the CO2. I use the vinegar and baking soda method, but will switch to a tank as soon as I can afford the one I want!

edit - Ok, I just woke up. I see it does say suffocation, so you're good! ;) end edit

    Re: prekilling
your right i didn't like to flick them in the nose so that they're stunned but still moving the twitching i find turns my snake on cause he starts getting excited and he constricts the mouse before eating so i don't have to worry about an awakened prey item

so I'm a head trauma person

i had heard of suffocation and drowning seemed easier to tell the truth i dabbled in all of the above and found head trauma easier

    Re: prekilling
I've had to try pre-killed before, and I used the CO2 suffocation with vinegar and baking soda. Normally I feed live, but I had just switched from 2 weanling rats to small adult rats, so I just felt better about feeding that much larger of a prey item pre-killed instead of live. I felt pretty terrible about doing it though, and my BP's have grown to where they can handle small adults without a problem. They probably could have handled them the first time, but it was just to ease my own mind :P

I've only ever had to kill two, b/c there was only twice that any of my babies refused... And I did it with head-trauma :( I almost cried, but I had no where to keep them...

eh....they'll never catch you the first time ;)

I feed live (i know, i know) but if i had to kill a rat/mouse it would be CO2 no doubt.

I feed F/t rats but in the rare event that I am in between orders and I have to kill them I use co2 and they die in a matter seconds.

I know, I know, what? You don't have to apologize for feeding live. I feed live as do many of our members here. There's nothing wrong with feeding live if done responsibly.

Dang! I thought suffocation option was the CO2 chamber. Well, we use CO2 if we prekill or cull. We feed mostly live, with some FT for those that would eat a pig roast if given the chance.

I have designed the perfect pre-kill chamber. I took a ten gallon aquarium and installed under tank heat, two hides, a water bowl, and a python!!! Works every time.

    i normaly breck there neck

put a pair of tngs at the abse if there neck and press down and pull there tail back and up at the same time

when my breeding picks up an i will need to kill alot at the same time i will build a Co2 chamber

    Re: prekilling
if i had to prekill then i would definitely go with CO2. I used to paintball and i have a 20 oz tank lying around, that would get the job done
