b.c. amarali: my first boa!
long story short: i had two pastel ball pythons, one male and one female. after raising the female from a hatchling for 2 years i discovered she was actually a male ( :rage: ). worked out a deal with a friend of mine to trade him for a hatchling female pastel he had just gotten. met friend at a show this past weekend, friend's hatchling also turned out to be male. gaaaah!
so anyhow, they weren't selling at the show i was at so i ended up talking with alan bosch and trading them both for a male bolivian amarali boa. this is my first boa and i'm already in love! i have to say though--he is a squirm worm! how in the world i am supposed to make him sit still for a photo is beyond me, so i only managed to get these rather terrible shots.
his belly is SO pink and a lot of the pink is creeping up his sides.

his sister has a full stripe down her back so maybe, just maybe, he is het for something stripey. :) (photo taken at the show.)

honestly, i have no idea. i've wanted a boa for a long time, but mainly for a pet. this could be a fun little breeding project though since there might be something to try to prove out but i really have to think about it. i figure i've got some time. :)
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
Plenty of time! :) Just wondering since you mentioned the stripe.
I think you will be very happy with this little boy... he is going to be absolutely spectacular as an adult.
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
Emily,
He is totally adorable!! Sorry it didn't work out with getting a female pastel, but I think that he is awesome!! Congrats!! :)
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
Congrats Emily, he's very cute. I wanna come over and play at your house, you have all the COOL stuff!
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
thanks everyone for the compliments. christie, you are more than welcome to come play at my house any time! :)
he is so different from a ball python it just amazes me. he isn't head shy AT ALL--i would try to put my hand in front of him like i do with my ball pythons to make him pause for a minute and be still but he would just keep right on coming, up over my hand and all over the place. i have some very outgoing bps that aren't shy about anything but he still beats them, hands down. :P
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
Nice little fellow! I like the pink sides a lot. Very good pick!
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
i know when i got my surinam X columbian girl she was soo interested in anything and everything. unlike the balls who curl up in a ball, they are soooo inquisitive
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
That's a seriously gorgeous boa, Emily.. and I'll say this about boas, you can't have just one. ;)
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
thanks! i think the just one rule applies to just about all herps. :P
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
that is SO AWESOME!
Congrats
I am getting an Amarali in the next month or so - also my first boa. Absolutely cannot wait!!!!
please post often about yours - I am dying of curiosity about your experiences as you settle in with your new friend :D
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!
Love the pink! I recently got a KSB and he has slight pink blusing underneath. How big does the amarali get? Nevermind - 7 feet, right?
Re: b.c. amarali: my first boa!

i will--he is so awesome, i can't believe it has taken me this long to get a boa. he is so friendly and curious and absolutely not shy at all at only 2 months old! every time i peek into his enclosure there he is, looking back and flicking his tongue at me. he's like, "what settling in period? i'm no ball python--i'm ready to roll!" :P

I guess I'm a wuss. My KSB will only reach about 2 feet (he's a male)! I want a female Rosy Boa next - and she'll only reach 3 feet!
