New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
So I just bought my first BCI yesterday. She is about 2 months old and looks stunning.
Well anyways I have her in "quarantine." and I am noticing some interesting issues that I didn't see with my BP. I have her in a 22g sterlite tub. Temps are 88-92deg warm with a ~98deg basking spot and ~80deg cool side. Well she likes climbing up to the little tiny crevices between the lid and the container and just stares down at the enclosure. I provided 2 hides and a grapevine tree branch in there and water. Humidity is around 50-60%. Is there something I'm missing? I think I've followed the books and care sheets down pretty good.
Is it possible that she is too hot? Too cold? Does not feel secure? She is about 14"-16" right now. Could this just be a sign of stress of moving into a new enclosure?
When I bought Fingers, my BP. He just seemed to settle in to his hides fairly quickly.
Re: New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
Boas tend to be a little more curious about their surroundings than BPs---I call them nosey ;) You will find that your boa will probably be out and about more than your BP, checking out her enclosure. I have kept both and have found that BPs tend to hide quite a bit more than boas.
If you have the proper set-up, I would say your boa just likes hanging out... literally.

that is normal i got mine yesterday but i have had sevral of them once b4 do u have ne pics i would love to see her
Re: New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
I'll see about taking some pics. I tried yesterday but I can't seem to get a pciture that isn't uber out of focus. Man she is a hard girl to take pictures of.
Re: New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
Is that a typo? 98 deg hot spot? WAY TOO HOT! 92 deg hot spot is PLENTY warm enough for a boa. 80 on the cool is good.
Re: New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
We keep the boas a bit cooler than the ball pythons. Usually 80 cool, 90 warm so if you're getting as high as 98 degrees, like Jimmi said...way too hot. Also remember most boas are active hunters and like to climb so they will often utilize their enclosures differently than a ground dwelling snake.

It wasn't a typo, I had it at 98 degrees. There was a pretty good heat gradient but I did lower the temperature on the warm side and it is about 88-91 degrees, cool side is around 80 degrees now.
She seems to be adjusting better.
Oh and here is a picture.

Wow!! I love the oranges and reds on her tail. Beautiful RTB. I have 5 RTB's right now and the only one that comes close to being that nice is my salmon pastel. Congrats on a great choice.

Thanks. I had been watching kingsnake.com classifieds like a hawk and then it turned out that the breeder was only about 20mins away (lucky me.) Drove up and picked one out and came home.

Agreed, she is very beautiful! Very nice looking little girl... very clean through the saddles (that's one of my fave traits in boas... Nuthin like a clean boa!).
And that tail! I am definitely a tail lady :D

She's gorgeous. Enjoy her and that wonderful boa temperment most of them seem to have. Watch out as she grows, even the babies have an impressive strike range and the bigger they get, the bigger that gets LOL.
Re: New BCI and now I have some interesting issues
Yeah, she's surprisingly docile right now. Just seems curious when I pick her up. That may change though :P. Eh, gotta pay to play I guess.
