Favorite classic (or new) scary movies???
Since its Halloween, I thought I would ask. What are your fav. scary movies past and present.

Two of my very favorites from when I was young are

Monster Squad (not really scary but a good monster movie)
    The Lost Boys
    Poltergeist
    Betelgeuse

There are too many new ones to list

    I love the Saw series
    Hostel
    The Hills have eyes
    Rob Zombies movies
28 days later, and the sequel, will there be 3rd???
The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Shaun now hates demon movies because of this one!

I know I am forgetting some.

I don't think Saw is neccesairly (sp?) scary, it's just gross!
I think The Blair Witch Project is the scariest movie I ever saw. I'm getting goosebumps right now, as I write about it. Um... especially the end.. where the go into the basement and one of the guys is in the corner, and then the girl and her friend scream and drop the cameras. Also when they're in the tent and you can hear children laughing and the whole tent shaking. (And they're all alone in the forest.. actually video taping it, this is not really a movie, a documentary, since I believe they said it's real) You can't imagine how I felt. I didn't sleep for weeks, and I had to be alone at home every day, I stopped eating, and I was just so freaked out. To make it worse my friend (whom I had a huge crush on :P) made it worse by putting that figure, person, stick thing near my bed.. This was about 2 years ago and I watched my first scary movie since then a week ago. I pissed my pants, literally, and I almost cried, I was shaking... my mother and I left before it ended.

Oh, and I think what added to my "phobia" is that I lived in a house that was haunted, after I saw that movie, I saw like a shadow person, heard people talking... One of the worst years of my life basiclly..
    sorry, long post!

The Blair witch project was alright (later to be dtermined as a hoax) I heard there was some truth to the story behind it. The film was not real though. The second movie was way better.

I too got really freaked out after watching that movie, we were walking home from the theater and we had to walk through a forrest to get back to my house. With thunder and lighting and rain, fun times lol.

I found out some interesting things about where that was filmed though. I have friends that hunt there.

If you want something to really freak you out, read about the Jersey Devil and the Pine Barrens:D THAT is some creepy stuff. I have been through there many times. My mom was terrified to even drive through it.

I can't watch the blood and gore slasher type movies but for me the ones that really scare the beejesus out of me are always the psycho killer/serial killer type ones. Silence of the Lambs is a classic scary movie for me. Also anything supernatural like The Amityville Horror type movie gives me the absolute creeps for weeks. :O

I have a hard time enjoying some of the Stephen King movies because I've read all the books. IT, is a MUCH better book then movie, so many things they skipped over for the movie, that, even after watching and reading horror since I was five get me to feel spooked.

IT, Cujo, Pet Semetary and The Stand are amazing books that fans of the movies should read. They're 10x scarier.

Horror movies don't really scare but one thing that did scare the life out of me was a hoax programme the BBC aired about fifteen years ago on halloween night. Me and four mates watched it, we were all around sixteen, seventeen years old. During the programme one of my mates bolted out of the house he was that feared and another became nauseas and refused to watch the rest of it.

Now with the benefit of hindsight you can look back on it and see it for what it was but at the time it scared the bejesus out of us. The BBC had to apology the next day because the film caused a massive uproar and apparently a few people topped themselves, blaming the programme in their suicide notes. With us being irish and raised on ghost stories, banshees and haunted houses we fell for it

Anyway heres a small clip of said programme. Look out for the curtains when the camera is panning round in the first segment

I will watch that video once my kids are sleeping. I don't want to scare the little ones lol.

The silence of the lambs is a fav too.

    As well as Amityville horror.

Jeepers creepers OMG, I could NOT go outside to smoke after dark after I watched that movie. It scared the crap out of me. I was terrified for months of that thing.

I love Asian Horror flicks, particularly the suspenseful ghost related ones! Which is also why I can't stand the Americanized remakes though.

Love Ringu, can't stand The Ring.
Same with the Grudge vs Ju-On
    One Missed Call
I'm very sad they're remaking A Tale of Two Sisters (excellent Asian Horror, check it out before the remake ruins it for you!)

I even make Sadako decor for Halloween around the house, from the original Ringu. :D I have most of the Ringu movies, I'm fascinated by her... one of the few movies that had me jumping at shadows for weeks after!

    http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...decorsada4.jpg

    http://pics.livejournal.com/medusasowl/pic/000eg0bq

The remakes suck all of the soul and sympathy out of it for the ghosts. The Grudge was SO close to being as good as the original... so close. Ending was botched big time. :(

I like lots of others though too. Both funny and thrillers!
    Sean of the Dead,
    The Howling
The Thing (80s one, actually I like a lot of 80s horror)
    Young Frankenstein
    Alien
    The Others
    Devil's Backbone
    the Evil Dead movies
    Donnie Darko
    Candyman
and of course the CLASSIC Ghostbusters!

I don't do well with anything with torture scenes or extended gore type stuff... especially where lots of pain and eyeballs are involved. But stuff that makes me jump and/or laugh or think is awesome! Suspense is good, gore... that can be overdone imho.

I absolutely LOVE a good scary movie!!
Many have named all the ones that I have loved though.

My all time scariest movie is The Poltergeist... I was real little when I saw it the first time and it still scares me. It has turned me away from liking clowns forever as well as tv snow.....

I love older scary movies, some of them make the best comedies!!! Like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre...
I remember many a slumber party where we would be dying laughing watching this movie. Another hilarious "scary movie" is Army of Darkness.

it's called ghost hunt, originally they made it seem like a documentary about a haunting but it was all fake (they did a bad job of letting the uk know it wasnt real) and it started a huge controversy (kids getting post traumatic distress, and one suicide) people failed to pay attention to the "credits at the end" in google type in "ghost watch bbc torrent" and see if you can find it. Im a horror movie nerd and I NEVER get scared by movies or docs or anything, but im not gonna lie, ghostwatch made me a little uneasy haha

    the shining
    silence of the lambs
saw 1-4 (they're dumb but i love them!!!!)
the texas chainsaw massacre movies (remade)
    jeepers creepers 1 and 2
the hills have eyes 1 and 2 (really rather funny if you ask me)
the blair witch project (the second one doesn't make any sense and is stupid)
    the exorsist

and the most hillarious-suposed-to-be-scary movie of all time is.....when a stranger calls- remake! when i saw it on the big screen our entire theater was crying out of laughter. it was hilarious!

these are my favorites...scary movies don't really scare me much. let's just say i have yet to see one that i won't watch twice. i love them all so much!! they're fantastic!
