is it a bad idea to let the girls..
live in their 55 gallon tank? I was able to purchase the 55 gal and stand too. Im eager to put the girls in it but dont want to over whelm them either, so is it safe?

You could always try sectioning it off, and increasing the space as they grow.

Hm.. I really wouldn't keep the babies on sand. Even as adults, it's so messy and holds bacteria really easily. It's not just scooping the poop up when you see it. You have to think about the liquid that seeps down to the bottom.

You can find some really nice rough slate tiles and use those for the bottom. Easy clean up(just wipe it down) and no impaction risk.

I've seen a set up online where they had the sand on the hot end, and the tiles over on the cool end (where they fed them, and the hide was) on BDragons forum. They were debating over if it was a good idea, and the conclusion I guess was that the baby dragons arent that great at catching their food when its on the sand, and may get some sand with their food, which could cause impaction. I thought it was a cool set up, and they owner said it was easy to clean. So, ya know.

I'm sure for adult dragons, it would be ok, but for babies, their systems are just very sensitive and small. I just wouldn't want to risk it. Beardies go around everywhere tasting things, and for adults, I'm sure a little sand here and there wouldn't pose a problem. It just wouldn't take a whole lot to impact a baby beardie.

sounds like my kids lol... i do have their food (Salad) in a raised dish. we take them out to feed crickets anyway since i have to go cricket catching lol... the girls are doing well right now, have gone to sleep for the night. ill be sure to post pictures later on this evening. i need to get more decorations for the cage lol. its amazing what a transfer from 10 gallons to 55gallons can make in terms of having enough cage furniture. i had picked up a few peices of driftwood before so i was able to use them too

I know the sand looks pretty, but I am currently in love with reptile carpet (which was recommended to me to keep my baby beardie on). It is a stylish green color, came cut to fit the bottom of the tank, and when it gets dirty I can just lift it out and wash it. I know you can get it sized for any tank, so maybe you could use it until they get a bit older.
