ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
what should their humidity be? the breeder said they like lots of humidity and that i should put the moss in his enclosure, he uses it (i saw his setups) and all his animals do wonderfully.. as you can see in my pic were currently running at 72degrees (not a probe) our temps are generally cooler at night but the range doesnt get much higher than that during the day when i get home from work... and 95% humidity... is that too much? enjoy the pics!
these are the enclosures i have ready for babies... hallo is in the one to the left. the one on the right is set up (no water misting currently) and ready when we bring home our next baby. i put the food bottle in there for size refrence. the enclosures are actually on top of my 5' tall rat cage so my kids leave them alone ;) except for hand feeding we leave them alone for the most part. when he gets bigger obviously will go in a nice size tank/enclosure

i think hes looking much more healthy lately (2xs a night hand feeding right now, since starting that hes perked up alot!)

Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
he's so cute. :) the moss is okay to use as long as you don't feed insects. if do feed insects they will be very hard to find in the moss and he will likely ingest some of it. humidity should be around 60% for cresteds, but it can dip lower inbetween mistings. if you have consistently low humidity you can use a humid hide. if it were me, i'd use paper towel substrate and make a humid hide using the moss. that will keep things easier to clean, easy to find food in and still provide enough humidity without having too much.
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
Emily what should her temps be? 72 seems a bit on the chilly side...
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
now to find a smaller hide than cage lol.. thats a great idea thank you. i have papertowels in there and have been using them as substrate but the breeder suggested i put it in there to help humidity. i have two of those carry container thingies the dragons came home in.. i bet if i cut a hole it in and put the moss in there it would work for a humid hide.. :gj:great idea. i have not been feeding him insects because ive been worried about him not eating and i bought him a few tiny crickets and he didnt do anything with them.. out of fear of them harming him i took them out. :rolleye2: i could try it again im just scared they will hurt him.. when i feel apricot baby food i have been mixing in the calcium dust (per breeder suggestion) and when feeding the cgd i leave it the way it is (no added dust) one of feeding each...
nate according to most of the caresheets ive read.. thats actually ideal but emily please correct me if im wrong! its 11:45 here right now and this is the coldest it gets in our house... i just took those pics
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
72 is okay for cresteds--anything from 68-80 is fine, although i tend to prefer the warmer end of the scale for hatchlings so they eat more and grow faster.
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
Awesome! It's been a while since i had cresties...I can't wait to get some more of those little boogers.
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
emily is there a suggestion if i need to make him warmer and how you suggest i do it.. i know they dont like bright lights, i have a very small uth and a rheostat but im not sure i can get it warm enough to not over warm him.. again this is the coldest it gets in our house too though...we turn the ac down pretty low at night here, during the day it warms up a bit ;) being in south florida it just seems to happen that way with the sun shining in... ill be sure to let you know what temps are tomorrow
edit: also how do you think he looks & what do you think of his enclosure?
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
ashley, i just noticed you live in south florida. unless your AC does a super duty job on taking humidity out of the air i doubt you need to do a lot to increase humidity except maybe in the short period in the winter when you might use heat (if you do).
also, i'd skip the babyfood feedings altogether and just go with the cgd. babyfood has added sugar that's just not good for them. even if it is organic babyfood that has no sugar added i'd just give it as an occasional treat, so that hallo gets the right amount of nutrients from cgd and doesn't fill up on the babyfood instead.

i don't think you need to do anything to increase his temps. if 72 is the coolest it gets he'll be just fine.

i think he looks good, as does his enclosure. you could add a few sticks/papertowel rolls cut to size/fake vines/etc. to his cage if you want but while he is small the vines you have in their now should provide plenty of climbing and hiding space.
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
Our ac unit is brand new... i just put the gauge in there today so im not sure what it was before the moss... i do plan to take most of it out and do a humid hide as you suggested for both and wait for the gauge to regulate and tell me what humidity is.. i do know typically when the lights are off on the dragons its about 30-38%... wasnt sure if that was *too* low. we dont usually use the heat.. when we do it stinks to high h&ll lol. I had been feeding the cgd first feeding, baby food second but i have no problem taking that out all together, im just glad hes eating now! should i be adding additional calcium to his diet or is the cgd have everything? (i was under the assumption it does have everything in it already)

great, thank you! i can add more leaves/vines/pt rolls/exc.. i already have all that good stuff for his big cage i just didnt know if i would overwhelm him with so much stuff in there.. also was afraid of him not being able to "find" his food.. although i have heard conflicting info on that
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
you don't need to add any extra calcium to the cgd as it is a complete diet. just dust any insects that you give him, if and when you do. :)
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
i just took his bin down to take the moss out and put in the smaller containers for the hide and hes all burried in it.. :( i feel bad taking him out lol
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
ha, well he can still bury in it when it's in the hide. :P
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
lol.. i moved him right into the little hide with the moss i put in there. we will see if he can figure out how to get out of the hide now lol. im sure if i didnt mist as much the humidity wouldnt be as high too (dont you think?) i already fixed the "empty" bin too..
the paper towel was quite damp which im sure plays a big part in humidity.. when i do the clean out tomorrow i will replace the paper towel with a dry one and just lightly mist the leaves (and hide?)
how do you say no to this face lol.. i almost panicked when i didnt see him on the leaves! this is under the leaves after i moved a small bit that was on top of him he said "hey, do you mind!"

;)
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
ha ha, he's like--hey! i'm trying to hide here! :P
you definitely want the paper towels to dry out between mistings. you probably will only have to mist the moss in the hide once a week or so--in a more enclosed container it stays damp longer.
Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
ok... the hide is fairly small and has a hole cut into one side witht he lid on upside down so the biggest part is on the bottom.. like an upside down delicup. i was able to stuff some moss in there, right now its not very damp (in fact very little of the moss was actually damp, just the drip off from the leaves) thank you so much again for the input and suggestions!!! i owe ya :sweeet:

Re: ALOT of hallo pictures (tounge included)
:) his little face is in shed and hes actually looking really good. we made his cgd a little bit thicker so it sticks to his face when we dip it in the food and hes really coming along nicely.
