Re: Male to Female Ratio....
I have heard people use 1 male to up to 5 females. I only run one male by 2-3 females.
I didn't turn them off just down
Check this site out really good

Re: Male to Female Ratio....
Ovulations are relatively easy to see. It looks like your snake suddenly swallowed a football. Although if happens for a short period so unless you are checking daily you could miss it. Here's a pick of my girl ovualting.

Thanks for the fast reply's....
About the male to females
If you are going to use one male with 5 females for example, you put the male in female #1 cage for three days, remove it and give 3 days off. Then put it with female #2 for three more days and3 days off, and like that with the rest.
Thant mean that each female will have the male for three days and then again in 30 days or so?
I'm a confused about this, can any one help?
Tigerlily I allready check the website that you sent me and it has a great info. Thanks
Freakie_frog that is a great example, Thanks....

Yea I will put my male pastel in with a female for 2-3 days, Then he gets a break for 2-3 days then he moves to female #2 for 2-3days, then he gets a rest for 2-3 days and I try to feed the male during his rest period from #2 this keep going with all the females I want my pastel male to breed. I feed every 7 days give or take and offer food to the females every 7 days if they aren't paired. When I get to the last female I start with #1 again and this keeps going till they won't breed or the girl start to ovulate. :D
hope that helps. :D

Thaaaaaannnnkkkkkss! Freakie_Frog
About the undertank heater do you leave it on during the breeding period or turn it off.
Re: Male to Female Ratio....
Some people do not alter temps at all, for those that do they only lower the temp output a bit at night. It's not really matter of turning it on and off. They still need that heat. ;)

Like Christie said I never completely turn my heat off it get turned down so that my hot side is like 80-85 and the cool side is 70-75 but it never gets turned off.
Some people don't cool their females and they do just fine. the main thing is to find what works for ya and go from there. :D
Re: Male to Female Ratio....
My goal is to get one-two breedings on each female every month until they ovulate.
Re: Male to Female Ratio....
You also have to go by the size of the male. If he is smaller then you should go with fewer females. So far all my males have been over 800g closer to 1000g.
Re: Male to Female Ratio....
Hmmmm...
ama1997 so you are saying that he weight of the male is an important factor.
Can you be a little more specific on your method. ( x grams = x females), I would like to know what works for you.
If some one else have somethig to add it will be appreciated.
Thanks
Re: Male to Female Ratio....
It is but it isnt. Alot of people breed really small males and everything is fine. Ive never bred a male under 800g. Some do some dont i just dont. Males will sometimes stop eating if you have a smaller male that stops eating. The can get sick get stressed out being with such a bigger female. Even die if bred to soon or to much. Its harder on him than a bigger male. Ive seen alot of post about people breeding males at 500 grams or even less sometimes. It has worked for them. Ive also herd some stories of males dying from over breeding cause they were to small. This is how i do it others do it there way. This is what works for me. My males have to be 800g or more before ill think about breeding them. My females have to be 2000g or more before i breed them. With my snakes ive found that they come back sooner and start eating sooner. After breeding and laying eggs. My 2nd year breeding i had a female that was 1500g. She laid for me the year before. I bred her i got 5 good eggs from her. But she stopped eating for almost a year to the day. 1 day off from being a full year. Shes fine now and is with a male right now. Most people say 1500g atleast for females. I go with 2000g, Does that extra 500g make that much of a difference? For me it has and makes me feel alittle better i guess. You also have to watch out and make sure there not to fat. Thats also unhealthy. If to fat they might not breed at all. So for me 800g for males 2000g for females. Those are just some numbers to go by. Doesnt mean you have to do it this way or that way. You can have a female that is 1500g and still be to small to breed. If shes 1500g and really long then i wouldnt breed her. I think most will say a male can breed safe at a year old 700g or 800g. But a female 2 to 3 years atleast and 1500g. Most of my females have been 3 years old or older. They might have bred sooner but I wast happy with there weight. I do have some that im going to breed this year that are just over 2 years old but 2100g to 2400g. So i feel its ok to try them at 2 years. Again this is what i do and it works for me. Almost everyone you talk to will do something a bit different. Im not saying that there way is wrong or anything like that. Check with others and take this and that from this person and that person. To come up with what works best with you and your snakes. Thats another thing not every ball python is the same. Well i hope that helped out some and didnt make it worse.

Re: Male to Female Ratio....
Anytime, Also take your time they will get big enough to breed sooner or later. Dont want to rush them and end up loosing one or more. I wouldnt be in a rush and start power feeding them to try and get them up to size. I feed anyone under a year old every 5 days. 1 rat/mouse whatever they are eating. Over a year old its one rat/mouse every 7 days. Like i said if shes 1500g you could try the female. Make sure shes not to long if shes 5 feet long and only 1500g thats to small.
