    Bad Bite by Retic
I was watching this last night and this guy was looking for retics in an Indonesian bat cave.

This one bit him on the back of the leg and seared him with it's teeth.

The bite was nasty. These vids do not even show the full bite marks.

He needed alot of stiches too.

    Wow that is way dangerous!
I wonder if it got infected because of all the bat poop, and other junk.
You would have to pay me a lot of money to do that crazy stunt!

I'd do it for $50, heck I'd do anything for $50 or a snake..
I bet you I could eat 15 crickets, or grubs or mealworms for a snake. I would even post it on YouTube for the world to see. :D lol

I think this guy is pretty much an idiot... but it's funny how he reacted when it bit him.. he screams like a girl!!

I saw an interview with that guy after the bite. It may be all "spin" but he said that the snake was pulling HARD and those recurved teeth were ripping the crap outta his leg. It was so painful another bite like that would have made him pass out since he felt like doing it from the first bite.

I have no idea if what he says is true but if so I'd probably be whining like he was too.

oh for sure! i watched that episode and the cuts were deep. looked like someone stuck a knife in a piece of meat, about 1in deep and just cut.
but, its his fault. first thing i always remember when my snakes "tag" is, dont pull away! pulling away creates the deep cuts. learned it from bp.net members. maybe we should shoot that dude an email so he can learn a thing or to. he over re-acted. i'd would be cursing, more then yelling like a bashee or 6yr old school girl who dropped her ice cream :P

Maybe National Geographic should hire some professionals instead of these chumps. I have a feeling that if that had been Ben or Kevin or Kara in that cave. There wouldn't be half the drama that happened there. That's like sending me in there. But I doubt I would wine like that, even if that happened to me. I think it portrays giants in a worse light than it should.

I'm gonna call everyone out for callin him a girl!! I'd bet NO ONE here would go into a cave like that in indonesia searching for giant snakes. I dont care who you are and what experience you have with captive bred giants it cant compare to dealing with one in the wild... in a pitch black cave... in a pool of bat poop... So not only would you not go in there... you would react the same way if you got bit!!! This giant snake that could take you down with ease nails you outta no where and of all places the back of your leg. If its an arm... mostly bone... but you know those teeth went right in and gripped the muscle... I dunno you can all call me a panzy but you couldnt pay me enough money to go in there....

I'd add some josh poop to the bat poop haha

I'll take that bet. There's no way you could keep me from going in a cave filled with bats and snakes. :) And if you noticed, all of snakes were perfectly content to sit there until one was grabbed and forcibly pulled from its home.

There a two kinds of motorcyclists those that have wrecked and those that will. As such there are also two kinds of snake keepers those that have been bitten and those that will be. Clearly we have been hearing from the latter here. I think many of us loose sight of the fact that our captive bred animals tolerate being handled ( and tolerate is the extent of it they do not enjoy it as a cat or dog does ). This man got caught up in the excitment of the hunt as many before him have and made a bad choice but to say he overreacted to that bite shows that none of you have got bitten like that. And by the looks of things many of you have animals that have the ability to inflict much more damage then that. We are all participating in a dangerous hobby and its when we loose sight of that fact that accidents happen.

I think there's a lot of truth in what you're saying. As a giant owner who's in the "haven't been bitten camp", I always try to remind myself when we get the big boy out that he is a wild animal and he'll do whatever he thinks is necessary to defend himself or to eat.

After that, he's still my big yellow baby boy. =)

My take on television programming like this; it sells. They wouldn't do it if it did. Why are "Shark Week" program schedules so popular? Because we love scary movies and gore. Same thing with snakes. It just so happens that *we* don't think snakes are scary, so we end up T'ed off. My advice; just don't watch those shows.

To be honest, before Steve died, lots and lots of people didn't like his approach to wild animal television programming, me being one of them. I thought he ran around like an idiot a lot of the time, putting himself and others in unneedful danger, hamming up the Aussie accent and attitude.

In retrospect and having learned so much more about him unfortunately after his death, I have some to respect him. But do you see my point? What sells? Animated humans allowing you the viewer to feel the fear and pain or a many times dull, scientific approach that doesn't fear the animal but never gets near it out of respect of the animal?

    Just my two cents. =)

Cassandra unfortunatley this IS what sells commercial time. Most people want to see the snake wranglers in action. Most nascar fans wanna see a wreck. The rest of us will never get it and often get upset about but we can all turn the channel. If enough of us dont watch it wont be on. More importantly these show are scaring people away from animals that if handled properly in any given situation(in the wild or captivity) pose little threat to us. I also think some of these shows give young people begining to show an interst in our hobby the wrong idea(that it is easy to deal with these animals). I was lucky to have met a breeder who is concerned with the animals welfare, and the keepers not just profit. Not so lucky with the motorcyles but thats a hole other story.:D
