She tried to eat me! =O

Hey everyone

I had my 2 1/2 year old female Royal (Ball) out earlier for about 10 minutes, just to handle her and check her over. So she was fine for most of it, but she's a pretty lazy girl anyway, so her movement wasn't excessive. So towards the end she became pretty interesting in the hand that was holding her.

So she moved towards it, licked it ferociously, then opened her mouth to see if I was edible lol! :cool:

I could almost see it coming, that bit of pressure they apply before biting lol. She let go, but I just laughed lol. So I had her out for a few more minutes, then put her back.

Has anyone else's Python done this? Let me know :P

I've only been bitten when they are pissed off.


If you think she was biting you cause she was hungry, I would suggest feeding her ;)

Anyway, on a more serious note. I would guess that she is hungry :P She missed her feed last week (I feed her once a week on a Saturday), I think that was due to the fact that she took the biggest dump two days later... Seriously huge. Now that she's 'empty', maybe she'll eat.

If not, then I'll assume she's going on her fast. If you think it's something more sinister, then tell me. But I doubt it, I'll just continue to feed her.

I don't think it was an agressive/defensive move, as if it was she'd have struck first, which is what she does to her prey (I strike-feed; basically dangling the rat by its tail with a giant pair of forceps lol). She's probably just hungry and wanted to give me a try :P

What can I say, I'm like a dog that likes chew toys

Mine has done this a few times now. Last week he drew blood. Only a pin pricks worth of blood for each tooth, but it was still blood. And he's only 4-5 months old..

lol, thats funny. Yea, Ive had it happen to me- only it was during feeding time, and I was showing my boyfriends mom Rin and Jack feding, because Rins on medium rates now, and I put them both in the shoe boxes (Thats what they eat in, if you havent figured it out lol), and all of the sudden Rins head bolted out side of the little hole on the lid- and then she was stuck. lol. It was funny though- she thought I was food. lol

Well how are your snakes to handle, mine often stays in the 's' position for a few minutes, then moves around (hardly), then 's' position, then move, then I put her back.

I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about my biggest girl striking and constricting on my hand... She really thought it was food... Took me 10 minutes to gently pry her off. Come to find out, if you spray them in the face with water they'll generally let go...

only on a feeding day...

see that defensive posture and stick your hand in there, and youre a lot like me. haha

after that i got an improvised hook...it didnt hurt, but i didnt like it... haha

Lol Travis I do the same thing. When im prepping the F/T for Thor, I use an old blow dryer to warm them up in a paper sack in order to make it a little more realistic for him, and make him quicker to respond due to the heat signature. Well, the problem with doing this is that the smell of the mouse drifts from the bathroom into my room, thus entering his enclosure. By the time I go to get Thor and put him in his feeding sack, he's coiled back in the striking position, and flicking his tongue into the air like mad. It's actually very cool to see him do it. And with me being curious to see his reaction, I stick my hand in the cage to pull him out, resulting in him raising his head up like a cobra, and striking me once or twice. He calms down once he realizes im not food/holding food, and then I can grab him.

that sounds extremely cute, but i'd say feed the poor thing. lol. good luck.

Lol I'm not starving her! They go months and months without food sometimes, and she wasn't intersted last feeding, but I think that's because she needed a poo lol (had one two days later... Huge)

My little girl will eat every three days like clock work! All the people that work where i get my hoppers ask if i have more than one snake. And cant beleive how much she eats. I let her scoot around on the floor and will always make her way to he mouse tank!!!! She is such a pig!

Guess you got warm hands...? Funny story. I have no idea. Did your hand smell like a small mammal?

I guess so lol. Well I do own three cats, but I'd washed my hands with soap thoroughly... So I dunno.

Oh but just to let you all know, she ate yesterday :) It must have been the fact that she needed a dump lol. She missed the rat three times lmao... I know they their aim sucks but come on! Got it in the end though :)

Glad it worked out. Sounds like you have a great attitude about it. Our BP gave me a little nip when I was helping him with his shed. I didn't hold a grudge since his mouth was pressed against my finger while I pulled the skin from his head (ouch!). It actually made me less afraid of getting bitten since I learned under what conditions he'll bite and that it wasn't that bad.

Thanks very much. Yeah I like to keep a positive attitude towards everything I do with animals, yeah some of it may be gross or painful, but it's not their fault, it's just their instinct and we're supposed to be the intelligent ones. Which is why I'm going on to study zoology at university (in about a year and half).

Oh and congratulations on getting him to eat! I like the picture, Medusa's (my RP) bite wasn't even forceful enough to draw any blood.
