    Obese Snake????
i took my female to the vet on friday because she has RI :( and she said she was over weight. She also said i must be overfeeding i told her that i only feed 2 adult mice every week or so. she is 620 grams and almost 3 feet. she looks fine too me i feed my male the same thing and he is very skinny compared to her. Should i cut her back on feeding I personaly think shes fine but what do i know. thanks.

    Hi,

Well maybe you could post a picture and ask for opinions? How experienced in herps and Bp's was the vet you used? How did they decide to treat the RI for example?

Over weight? Then my pastel is way obese - she is close to 800g at 3ft.

My vet said she looked awesome just last week. I think you need a new vet - one that knows what a BP should look like.

well i was reffered to this vet on this forum and she said she has had many snakes including bp's and she went with baytril and flagyl (sp) to treat the RI. her name was Dr. Dielo at the westminster veterinary group. She specializes in exotics. And pics are on the way i didnt want to disturb her for pics because I just stuck two syringes down her throat and shes kinda angry at me. :) And shes in the middle of shedding.

you can see where some of her skin rubbed off when she was struggling with me. on her neck and back it was stuck to my arm.

yeah thats what i thought the vet kept comparing mine to hers and saying "well my snakes 3 years and 4 foot but thinner than your snake is" I dont know she seemed pretty knowledgeable when it came to my blood.

I have one female who is 3 1/2-4 ft and 2300g and another who is right around 3 feet and she is 1610g and they're not overweight (they've been to the vet too and she said their weight is perfectly normal).

I think your female looks like just fine.

Maybe she's playing to many video games and not getting enough exersize :D JK.

She looks fine weight wise. The vet perscsibed oral meds? My vet tells me there is no definitive proof that oral meds are absorbed in the necessary concentrations needed to fight RI's and prefers injections.

    Good luck with her!

Yea my vet gave me bayatril injections(5, 1 every other day) and it worked like a charm... I think your snake is fine size wise... Theres no real way to tell if a snakes overweight until it dies and you cut it open and see the fat deposits... If your only feeding it 2 adult mice a week I'm not sure how it could be over weight... Looks like she caught the RI from low humidity(as did mine)... Are you using a tub or a tank?

i heard that if you can see skin between the scales the snake is overweight. Not sure if this is true though.
