Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
As we have mentioned in other threads scattered throughout the site, the staff frequently discusses the merits and pros & cons of our current rep system. And, of course, lately it has been much on our minds.
One of our primary concerns for removing the anonymity feature of the system as it stands now, is because everyone who had left anonymous neg-rep points previously would lose the confidentiality of their assumed privacy. But now...due to the hard work and efforts of our indefatigable Raj (Iceman25)...we have a way to fix that issue.
And so, to you, dear members...we put this test of our current rep system policies:
1. Leave it as it is and continue our standard operating procedures dealing with unjust rep hits.
2. Remove the anonymity feature once and for all, and allow all members to see who leaves every rep comment left for them. -- The condition of this would be that all negative comments left PRIOR to this change in the system would be attributed to "testaccount" which is Raj's poor, haggard guinea-pig for testing stuff. :P All positive comments left in the past would be attritubed to the person who left them. This would only affect negative comments. And from this change on....all NEW rep comments left, whether positive or negative, would be attributed to the person leaving them.
This is a very significant change to our system and our community, so we are looking for a CLEAR majority on this poll. A 51 to 50 vote would not bring about this change...but if we have a majority of at least 10 votes, we will get this new system put into place soon.
This thread will remain open for questions of a technical nature...but PLEASE do not start debates on the merits of the rep system. If you have concerns about the nature of the rep system that you wish to discuss with staff, please send a PM to Iceman25 and he will get back to you as soon as he can. Any argumentative or disruptive posts in this thread will be deleted.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
Just to clarify Jude...so all old neg reps would show up with the author listed as "testaccount", all old positive reps would show the author as the person that gave them...correct? Then after this change any new rep given, positive or negative, would show the author so no need to sign your rep as the system would do it for you automatically?

Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
A reminder, folks.....the thread is left open for technical questions and clarification on how this may all work. It is NOT open for debate or other disruptive comments. If you have a concern about it or a suggestion to make, please send a PM to Raj. (Iceman25).
Thanks, y'all!

Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
umm.. I think the only reason anon-neg rep points are a *good* idea is to accomodate for the human's natural tendency to take revenge.
What i'm asking is: If anonymous negative rep point giving is removed, will there be some kind of rule against retaliatory negative rep points? What would that rule look like?

Retaliatory use of the rep system is already against the rules. More details about how to make such a distinction more precise and how to enforce the rules will be worked out among the staff after this poll is closed.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
so at the end of this poll what ever the vote is the rule will be set in place.
i have a fealing that the amount of neg reps will go way down then as people will now have to stand behind them.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
If you feel so strongly about something sign it. I keep finding myself A.) Sending em without a name when I press enter to try and skip a line or B.) Try Sending negative and forget to click it. Is there anything you can do about that? lol
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
Hi,
Matt,
Is that first line a question? Just asking for clarification purposes. :)
Jake,
Short of hovering over you while you type in a mortarboard and gown I don't think so.:D
Just a reminder folks this thread is for questions of a technical nature concerning the matter in hand. If you feel the need to discuss ramifications or anything could you please do so in another thread?

yes it is
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
The answer to your question is that the end of the poll, the staff will discuss further and make an announcement when it goes into effect.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
Will this also effect the Neutral rep points given out by new members not able to give out pos or neg rep points yet?
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
After double checking with some folks and rereading a few things I have to retract my previous. But to answer your question...I'll have to get with Raj on that to see exactly how/if that will be effected for 100% sure.
What is this stump the MOD day. :D

Yes. If the system goes into place, all previous neutral hits(value 0) whether they were intended to be a positive or negative, will be associated with "testaccount" as well. If you(or anyone else) needs further clarification please feel free to send me a pm.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
Just a reminder - any discussions about the merits of either choice should not be discussed here and should be discussed in QT instead.
Re: Reputation Reviewed .... And Put to the Test
whoops i voted before i read the thread and accidently voted to "keep it the same" instead of the other option...is there anyway i can change my vote?
