Unbelievable! Pet Snake
This article was written about how to talk your child out of wanting a pet snake. I did get a few chuckles out of it though!

And she start with
Quote:
sit down at the table and discuss it rationally

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
OMG, I could not even read enough of it to get through the third paragraph! If the typos in the first sentence weren't enough to make me shake my head as to the intellegance of the article and its author, then the whole "let's just teach and encourage ignorance" stand point on the part of the "parents" sure was.
Since I couldn't even stomach reading the entire article, I can't really say too much about it other than the first three paragraphs, or rather 2 paragraphs and a wayward couple sentences in between are, in my opinion, deplorable, shamefull and unfortunately, all too common.
"Discuss it *rationaly*???? What kind of rationale or logic are they using? Perhaps the "let's all be one big, ignorant, LAZY family and live happily ever after".
P.S.
Who houses a snake in a JAR?????

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
My personal favorite - frighten the child:
Quote:
If your friend or friends wants you to take a snake from them. Just thank them, but no thanks because my mom or dad will leave the house and who will take care of the snake and me.

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
Let's teach our children to base their entire life, and all the decisions forthwith, on the judgements of those around them. (god forbid they think for themselves) Great idea. I like that not one point was brought up that didn't include fear. :slamhead:
Where the heck did you find that Robin?

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
Someone actually posted it on another forum I visit. I don't know how they found it.

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
Oh good lord, don't read her other stuff. I think I lost some brain cells over the last few minutes! I'm certain I actually heard my brain screaming in pain.
I can't help but wonder after reading other things she's put on that site if she doesn't just read and/or hear something and post it. She is soooo... I don't even know. What I do know is that reading her writings is detrimental to the intelligence level.
Robin, did you post this just to be mean to us? :P

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
I agree, Denise, it was painful to read. I lost much needed brain cells, which I just can't spare!
I found the article on ear piercing and the entire basis is to encourage individuality, but they just told them to conform in the pet snake article. The poor confused children. :ohmygod:

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
I think I am going to ask my son if he wants his own snake now....
Really though, that is the most ridiculous thing. Its like the parents that teach their children that Dogs and Cats are disposable animals by buying them from petstores then selling them when they don't "have time" to potty train, or all of the sudden "have an allergy" after keeping them animal for years.

what a odd person..

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
I went back and read the rest of the article (after laying on the leather sofa, talking to my shrink for an hour and hugging the stuffed snake that is provided in the office :D) and this *really* disturbs me:
Quote:
If your child understand what you are telling them, then this discussion is settled. We will all agree we do not want a snake as a pet. We maybe can get a dog or a cat but we have to may sure you are responsible enough to take care of an animal. Sometimes children may be old enough but lack the maturity to handle animals.
If your friend or friends wants you to take a snake from them. Just thank them, but no thanks because my mom or dad will leave the house and who will take care of the snake and me.
What the????? :O
This woman thinks that *children* should be the responsible party for a pet? And what's with that last bit about leaving the house? Doe SHE do that? Do she and her husband leave their house and leave a child home who can not or is not old enough to be able to care for themselves?
Now I'm afraid... very afraid.

Re: Unbelievable! Pet Snake
Wow. Just, wow, guys... Do people like this really exist? *goes to build safety shelter deep underground*
This was my fave part, I mean, c'mon...
"We could not care for a snake like we should. Snakes need to be in their own habitat, would you want to be in unfamiliar territory? Would you want to kill for your food just to survive? Well, the same thing goes for a snake."
Um, lady, a snake's home is wherever it's at. They dont have addresses. Also, a snake ALWAYS kills its food to survive. That's what they do. Yeah, even in the wild...
Gosh, some people... I showed this to my little sister who has kinda been interested in snakes because of me but still isnt TOO sure. Even she was like, "wtf?!"
