New web site
Hey guys just got my web site up and running let me know what you think.

Re: New web site
I am still left wondering if the cages come with heat installed?

Re: New web site
The nice version:
Frames are out. (meaning they're an abomination to the web)
Your images are not optimized. You can't simply resize a 2 meg file and expect the thumbnail to load fast. I'm on a fast connection and it loads pretty slow.
You should rename your pages to something other than "contentframe.htm"
In IE, i get a horizontal scroll bar :colbert:
Why does it say September 26, 2007? (today is the 28th)...do you change the date everyday? and just forgot to change it for the last couple of days? Easy fix for that...LMK if you need it.
Just my :2cent:

Re: New web site
First off: Thanks For the input. I dont expect the first version o the site to blow people away and be the best one on the web. I am more interested in pushing our products and provide better enviroments for our reptiles and have fun with these amazing creatures. It will get better and I am in the process of changing all of tha right now.
Thanks for looking

Re: New web site
A critique on the site: The plain black background with psycho-bright text is painful. If you're interested in promoting your product, a more "eye-friendly" color scheme will help. I realize not everyone is as sensitive as I am about such things, but some folks are and you don't want potential customers exiting your site 20 seconds after entering it just because it's painful to read.

Re: New web site
Not too bad for the first try...
I dont really like the frames... and also on your side bar you have at the bottom, "Contact Us" and "Email Us".
Basically the same thing over again, but just my two cents!
In the "Cage Features" section you dont have an add to cart button yet. Might be handy if I want to buy a lock or what not.
Anyway keep working on it. I dont know if you wanted my two cents but ya got it anyway! lol

Re: New web site
Thanks for the input I fixed some of the minor errors and the more feedback the better. I like interacting with people that will be visiting the site because it allows me to give you something you all will be happy with. I like the suggestions so far. I do ahve one question though........why no frames? why are they a turn off?
Thanks again for looking

I just kind of find it annoying to figure out where to drag the bar down I guess... I guess more so because they aren't as popular as they used to be... so people aren't used to using them either...
A side bar like the one on this site is perfect.

Re: New web site
Ok guys I made some updates and some changes from your constructive criticism and hopefully I am more on the right track now. I want to say thanks again and the more input the better after all it is going to be you that will be dealing with the site and I would like it to be as user friendly as possible.
Thanks

Re: New web site
Again, your images are not optimized.
The image on the top is 3000x900, and you simply shrank it to 636x141. Resizing it using what ever you're using to make your web site does not work. You're still loading a HUGE image. http://www.shrinkpictures.com might help :) If you have Photoshop..that's even better.
I'm browsing and noticing that all of your images are full resolution.
"Heating & Lighting NOT included, but it is anOPTION"
Here's a quick solution. You need to use a program or that web site I gave you and optimize your thumbnails for quick loading. Then, just like you do any link, you link the picture to the full size image. When they click the thumbnail, it goes to the larger image...and when people willingly click to a large image, they're usually willing to wait...but won't wait on 10 large images to load.
I think you're making progress. Web design isn't easy.

Re: New web site
I looked at the site as a consumer and wish there was better descriptions to each individual item and more and better pictures.
I also didnt like having to visit a paypal page to see what the price was.
-
Re: New web site
Ok I understand where you are coming from and that was my next move I am in the middle of a photo shoot to get all of our enclosures up and looking good. I wanted to get some pictures up though. I do understand it needs to be more descriptive and better pictures.
Thanks for your help
The more the better
Thanks

I read through this and it's all very common sense. But something that struck me as SO so SOOOO true : Put the price on the damn page
Quote:
"The worst example of not answering users' questions is to avoid listing the price of products and services. No B2C ecommerce site would make this mistake, but it's rife in B2B, where most "enterprise solutions" are presented so that you can't tell whether they are suited for 100 people or 100,000 people. Price is the most specific piece of info customers use to understand the nature of an offering, and not providing it makes people feel lost and reduces their understanding of a product line. We have miles of videotape of users asking "Where's the price?" while tearing their hair out."
I'll use ball pythons of course. When I'm searching for a new addition to my collection, I am highly price oriented. If I see one that's what I'm looking for, I immediately look for the price. You know what I see 70% of the time? "Inquire for price" Or "Please Inquire" Or "Contact me"
GRRRR!!! I don't want to call you, I'm shopping. I'm moving on, sorry, you may have had a great animal for an unbelievable price, but someone else didn't make me work for it. Sry :/
That to me is PARAMOUNT for breeders with websites. Or anyone in general, lay everything out for them, don't make them work for it, or chances are they will continue to move along.
I will expand that to include Realtors. WHY wont you put the address on the damn ad?!!! I may like that house, it looks great with your fancy 200x400 picture (:/) But I don't wanna live on 8 Mile in d-town.
I understand you trying to grab the attention of anyone interested by making them email you, but I found a house for the same price in a neighborhood I like because they listed it. Thnx.

Re: New web site
I should have some up dates here in a little bit. I have fixed as much as I can and hopefully it will load faster and I have fixed other minor things as well.
What do you guys think about the color scheme?
I saw someone posted about it. Is it a problem?
-
Re: New web site
Pretty good, simple. I would recommend removing the frame. It squishes the "info" into nearly 2/3 of the screen with that frame taking up most of the space. People don't like to scroll its true.
Images are still large for their pixel ratio. I'm on a dedicated line, took a little bit.
Wonder if changing the font to arial or verdana would make a difference, and look like you didn't make this is an html class. New times roman or default screams "low budget" to me. Sorry for the harshness, I'm a little cheeky. ;)
-
Re: New web site
Yea, huge improvement when you remove the frame.
Taking into consideration that most browsers use the "f" style reading, maybe putting your animals in line down the left hand side with the descrip on the right of it. It confused me when the bottom girl had name Jeezy, and then there was another name angel to the right of that with no pic.
Also, spell check.

Re: New web site
I went ahead and changed some things that I think would work well for you layout wise. I highlighted in red what I changed deliberately, blue is showing you that the descriptions are in the cell to the right of the image. I will admit, it's been years since I've coded, so you can laugh at it if you want, i wont mind. ;) (yes I'm at work and bored... ugh)

When should we be expecting our free enclosures? :D

Re: New web site
Spelling and grammatical errors! Got to fix them, I lose interest in whatever I am reading if there are multiple simple errors. It tells me that the person who wrote it doesn't pay attention to detail and makes them 1)less credible, 2)less inclined to have a quality product.
Examples that I noticed:
Under Cage Features:
1.The LID LIP allows the plexi-glass door from falling back into the enclosure. It also ensures and snug fit when the cam locks are latched.
I'm guessing this should read "prevents" and "a" snug fit.
2. Our dividable enclosures allows
should read allow, enclosures is plural
3.
Our custom routed ventilitation holes allow air to circulate through the enclosure. This will keep fresh airin the enclosure at all times. Self-explanatory.
4. Under the Stackable Enclosures section: SEMI ABOREAL REPTILES should read ARBOREAL. Actually it looks like arboreal and ventilation are mis-spelled throughout the site.
Otherwise, good luck with the project.

Couple more things.
"Contact Us" section. Your company name is off to the left a little.
