dunno to be honest
Re: my ball just bit himself
Did he just have a meal right before he did it? Ive never seen that happen. Maybe his enclosure smells like rodents... I dont have a clue man
Re: my ball just bit himself
Was it feeding time? Sometimes if mine are over excited about food (though my BPs have not done it, it's usually kings and condas) they will bite at themselves if they see their body moving past their face.. I guess it triggers a bite response. It could be that he startled himself too.
Re: my ball just bit himself
Was there a rodent involved anywhere? Did he miss a feeding strike? Or was he fed recently? Maybe he caught the scent of a rodent on his own scales and instinctively bit? :confuzd:
He should figure out fairly quickly that he's not edible and let go. Check him for any punctures afterwards. If he broke the skin, keep it clean and put some antibiotic ointment on it. (the kind without any pain reliever in it)
Re: my ball just bit himself

Re: my ball just bit himself
Interesting this topic came up. About 2 weeks ago I was doing my daily check on all the kids and noticed one of my females had her mouth wrapped around her mid section. Like you described it appeared she had struck at herself. At first I was very concerned thinking she might have had something wrong. When I pulled her out she was twisting and spinning and going crazy. She had got her teeth stuck on her scales and therefore couldn't let go. I helped her get her jaws loose and put her back in her tub. I checked on her every hour for the rest of the day but she was fine and ate on her normal day.
She hadn't eaten (and no rats were in the room) for a couple of days before the incident so I don't know why she did it...but she seems fine and is her usual self now.
Strange.
Re: my ball just bit himself
My cat "fights" with her own tail... I see the psychology behind it as something like this:
"hey, what's that moving?? oh, grab it, grab it! bite it, bite it! OUCH! It bit me back! I'll show you ya little bugger! Bite, bite! OUCH!! It bit me AGAIN!!! Well I'll show you ya little bugger! Bite, bite! OUCH!!!"
This goes on for hours...
Re: my ball just bit himself
Mine actually bit herself and wrapped up then swallowed half her body before she realized her mistake! HA JK!!!
Re: my ball just bit himself
maybe it was one of those yawns gone wrong and its teeth just snagged its skin.
