    Jungle Carpet (questions)
So for the longest time ive been stuck between choosing a Carpet python or a rtb and recently decided to choose a Carpet now and get the rtb later on in the year.

any ways, I was just wondering if anyone had a picture of their carpets enclosure? and maybe a nice pic of their snake?

I understand they are semi arboreal so does that mean they will thrive in an arboreal enclosure?

Oskar, my JCP, hides during the day under or in the brown paper bags or in one of his flowerpots. At night though he comes out and sits on a branch or maybe just cruises his cage, but I've never heard anyone say that you should house them like a chondro.

The cage I set him up in has a heat light at one end, two half flower pots and a couple branches for him to romp around on. He's doing fine, eating, gaining weight, etc. These guys are durable as all get out. When I had him delivered to my college, his box was marked perishable. The shipping/recieving guys thought he was some fruit or something, so they put him in a fridge for FOUR HOURS  Somehow he turned out absolutely fine.

Yeah, no problem. I have no idea how he survived, but he's a trooper. I don't know if you've decided on a breeder yet, but I got mine from ectotherms.net and Will has been nothing but helpful. Andrew Hare (AHreptiles.com) is really good as well, but a little more pricey. Moreliapythons.com is a great set of forums that's primarily based around carpet pythons.

Sure, try emailing him, he's really nice. When my guy wouldn't eat, he told me exactly what to do.

As has been previously stated, carpets are semi-arboreal. From my experience, Irian Jayas are a bit more arboreal than coastals. Jungles also like a bit of arboreal space.

What size animal are you looking for??
Irians grow to about 5 1/2 - 6 ft., jungles to about 8 ft., and coastals to 9 - 10ft.

    An adult jungle would do good in a cage 36" x 24" x 15". Coastals in a cage 48" x 24" x 15".

If you are looking for a nice high quality trophy jungle, you can't go wrong with Andrew Hare. He has some of the best jungles available in the market today.

If you are leaning toward an Irian or coastal, shoot me a PM.

Well, I definatly want a baby, and something that will get some size on it, and although I'm attracted the jungle's coloring I'm still not 100% sure which carpet I want, all the other carpets I've seen other than jungles were pretty pricey, if you can give me some average prices for em that may sway me in either direction :]

It really depends on how much you're willing to spend, but think about it this way: how much is a snake worth to you per year? $200 sounded like a lot to me (I'm a poor college student), but then I thought "hey, he'll be with me for twenty to thirty years- I better get a snake I want to stick with." $200 dollars over twenty years is ten dollars a year. At least that's how I rationalized it, hahaha.

Yeah, I think most of the snakes I've seen fall somewhere between $150-300, and that goes for IJ and JCPs.

    That is a coastal carpet.

Look around and see what one of the three carpet species you fancy. When you are ready to decide, and you want an IJ or coastal, PM me.

My 91g albino BP was shipped to me in 30 degree weather with no heat pack. He was lithargic to say the least, as I thought he was dead. Needless to say I freaked out on the breeder, but I put him under my shirt on my lap and he slowly came to. When he crawled out I put him in the heated container I had ready for him at my work. I was terrified that the breeder had severely injured or killed him, but he ate for me that night, and has been a voracious eater ever since. And he didn't get RI, either. I emailed the breeder as soon as I opened the box and saw that he was freezing. His reponse was, "I wouldn't worry too much. Their tough snakes that can handle extreme conditions.

Yeaaaaah, I did basically the same and my guy hasn't shown any signs of RI (oozing from mucus membranes/rasping clicking sounds while breathing right?). I'm sorry your breeder was a sonuva, Will from ectotherms fell over himself apologizing, even though it wasn't really anyone's fault.

Michael/Ben, both holding a great poker hand Royal Flushes.

    Dark Siders X Light Siders = :rolleye2: :rolleye2: LOL :P.

I wouldn't want to be you making decisions now based on what has been presented by these guys. They're all the highest quality examples for that type.

I decided on getting 3 because I just got a raise at work and my car insurance went down so i'll have a little extra money floating around which OBVIOUSLY goes to this addiction. Although I did decide that my first Capret is going to be the jungle, then an IJ, then the Coastal. as far as the jungle goes im buying from andrew hare (is that his name?) and then for the IJ and Coastal i'll probably buy from someone on the forum if you guys still have anything available

Anthony has a great article about carpet pythons on his site. He's also an excellent breeder, as is Will Bird, although Will may be sold out after tinley.

    www.acreptiles.com http://www.ectotherms.net/ecto-cms/

    As for enclosure pictures..

I have adult IJCP's. The light in the cage makes her color look more yellow. This is my female, she hangs out on the perch all the time.
    http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...meBoaphile.jpg

This is an older shot of my male. His current setup is the same cage style as hers, although they have bigger hides than pictured.

And here is an old comparison shot.
