    shedding time
How long does it take a blood to shed? I've been watching my boy since he hasn't moved out of his cool side hide for a few days. I noticed a slow onset of the cloudy eyes.

So I'm thinking he's about to shed any minute!! But man its been a good few days he's had the cloudy eyes. Like 3 or 4 days at least.

I guess I'm used to seeing the ball shed and once her eyes are white I get a shed like 2 days afterwards.

Humidity and temps are spot on also.

Bloods that I've seen don't get as blue as BP's do. They get cloudy looking then bam they shed.

    Hey al!!!

Yeah this is your sula about to shed. He's been cloudy for the last few days like I said. And completely immobile. So hopefully he'll shed soon.

It just seems that he's taking longer than the ball does. How long did it take him when he was with you?

Do they have a clearing up phase like balls do before the shed?

It's the same for my snakes. The Ball will shed in no time but the Blood will take a while.

They do seem to take longer to shed then a BP does. Also he normally took about a week to a week and a half to full out shed. They do have a bit of a clearing up phase, but I found it to be quick and didn't always see it happen on him.

Thanks for the info everybody. I'm still waiting on him. I checked on him this morning. No shed yet.

I'm just keeping the humidity up. And keeping an eye on him. Its just a waiting game between me and him now. And he's winning.

You'd soak after days 3 or 4 of the blue eyes stage? I've got humidity steady at 85%. Still soak?

Or are you saying soak 3 or 4 days after they clear up?

30 minutes. An hour? Thanks for all the help. I'd hate to have a bad shed with this guy.

A little bath he shall receive then. He's in it right now actually. I haven't seen him out and about. Drinking or soaking in his water bowl so I'm soaking him for a few.

He's all sprawled out now. And he's along the back edge. He's longer than a 41 qt I can tell you that.

I think it was you I talked to on weights? I ordered a scale from rich so hopefully ill get his weight soon.

Ahhhh still no shed!!!! Its driving me nuts. Haha

There couldn't be any other reason his eyes could cloud over is there? He's just taking his sweet time isn't he.

Part of being a Blood owner is patience. As long as his temps and humidity are good to go then he will shed when he is ready. :)

I hear ya. I think its just the anxiety of a first shed with me that's got me all wound up. He's still doing good though. Everything is going perfect for a shed. Just waiting now.

His eyes have cleared up a bit. And his tail is looking pretty plump. So I'm expecting a shed anytime now.

The weirdest thing about these guys is they like to wait a very long time before they drop a deuce. Months will go by and you'll just stand there in awe and then one day, without warning....BOOM! They drop the big one.

    I'm serious.

Oh I know!!! I had to make my own thread I was amazed at how much they can let go of. He last took a number 2 I timed it back to a month ago.

He's definetley gonna let go of something here soon. I'm hoping for urates. :)

I don't know how true this is, but I read somewhere that these guys only defecate 3-6 times a year....

If he is only in blue then you might a have a few days to wait still. So patience is the key here. Just make sure your humidity is where it needs to be and wait. Then you post pics :sunny:

Yeah like I said he's clearing up. I checked on him this morning and his eyes are almost clear again. What I thinks weird is he didn't really darken up like the ball does. He actually lightened up.

Which could be how they are or this guy is gonna get lighter with age. I'm not sure. Either way I think today is around day 8 or so. Maybe more. Its just been so gradual I don't have an exact starting date.

Anywho. As soon as he sheds which SHOULD be here very soon ill post some pics. :)

I got my Blood in December and he went twice during his initial 2 weeks and only 3 times since then if I remember correctly. He only gets 1 meal a week, appropriate size.

Man I don't know what I'd do if my guy dropped a load every week!!! They don't go very often like you said. But when they do its A LOT!!

No update on the shed yet. :( he's really takin his time. I mentioned before. Is there anything that could cause they're eyes to get hazy besides a shed?

Okay well then he should be shedding. Its just not like the ball. She darkens up real good when in shed.

This guy just barely lightened up if any.

Man it sucks not being a very patient person haha. I guess I better work on that.

he's gettin a little fat towards the tail area I just seen. I wonder if I'm in for a big ol urate or a doo doo soon :)

He pood and passes urates over a month ago. I'm guessing they pass urates about the same way as they poo? Long time frames between em?

    Re: shedding time
Well I've been checkin him and his tail end feels fine. No noticeable lumps or anything.

I know my ball passes urates about once a week. The blood does not. That's why I wondered on they're urate frequency.

There's only so much you can read up on animals. I think most of the learning comes from each indiviuduals experience.
