Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I do this from time to time if I need both my hands when cleaning a tub. But for the most part I feel that I can offer a more secure place by holding them than putting them around my neck. Would I drape them over my neck and got to the store no. But for a minute or tow I dont see a problem.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
It depends on the size and strength of the snake. I never put any around my neck out side the house. In the house they are comfortable with it.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I let my ball pythons hang out on my neck. I don't do that with my cornsnake, becasue she would take off.
They seem content to stay there, and I've not been choked to death and eaten by any of the ball pythons... yet! lol.
I don't DRIVE with one like that, because he'd go behind the seat, I always have them secured if for some reason I'm transporting one.
ON occasion when I've attended a local faire thing in the park, I sometimes take one, and usually, it's around my neck. I think since he can hide in my hair some, and my neck is warm, it makes him more secure.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
my 7foot albino burm hangs on my neck. she wraps around one arm and kinda just "droops" down the other side while i usually just hold her neck

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
thanks wolfy
more plz and pics would be great?

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I've had mine around my neck quite a few times. If my hair is up she usually ends up wrapped around that instead though.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
Not any more, only because she weves in and out of my hair. It's hard enough to get her out let alone trying to fix a snakey hair doo. lol.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
My bull loves to go hang out around my neck because he's a scaredy cat, well, scaredy snake as it were, but, like Wolfy, he has this fetish with tangling himself up in my hair so I keep him off my neck. My MBK doesn't do the neck thing, she prefers clothing. She likes to go down my shirt, in my sleeves and up my kids' pants legs.
I'll put a small snake around my neck every once in a while for short periods of time but I don't like anything being on or around my neck in the first place (that whole choking feeling and all) so the neck is not much of a thing with me. If I'm holding one of my snakes and I need both hands free, they get stuffed down my shirt to hang out and tickle my ribs.
Granted, my snakes are still small enough that I can do that. I would probably be hard pressed to get a 4 foot ball in my shirt.... but hey, if I succeeded it would make for one very funny looking picture. :D

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
both of mine go around my neck all the time. and neither are babies anymore! the only time it's ever a problem is right after a fresh shed. they're so grippy that when they try moving, it starts squeezing a little. i've never had a problem unwrapping them, though, so it's not much of a problem.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
i let matilda on my neck alot but i let her but end go under my armpit and she kinda holds on right there as she hangs around my neck :)

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I like it when Kisasa relaxes around my neck. Some days she's just too energetic and curious to stay there for long...but sometimes she'll chill there and maybe even go to sleep. She actually gives a pretty nice massage. :P
However, I do realize that there are some risks involved in allowing her to do that. Mostly that she might (for whatever reason) bite at the face, ears, head, or neck area....not a fun thought. So I try to never let my guard down when I have her out that way and if she seems at all nervous or in any way behaving oddly, I don't let her go there.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
ok thanks it was that in random things i looked at it said it shouldnt be done

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I only let my ten year old BP hang around my neck for a couple of minutes.. not long though. Usually when cleaning her tank or when I'm gonna take pics with her. But that's about it.

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I let my snakes, all Ball pythons, hang around my neck. My 2 year old loves to have them around his neck as well. Of course he has to sit on my lap to handle them at all.

I've never read that you shouldn't. Note that if you believe everything you read, you'll be in a constant state of contradiction. ;)
I love to have my big girls and boy hang out on my neck because then i can get other stuff done and they can come along. I once had to get somewhere with one (mind you i bike everywhere i go) and she's pissy when you put her in a bag, so i let her ride on my neck. She was so completely chilled out you would swear she didn't even realize we were going any faster than i do when i wander around the house *shrug* (yes i had a bag for her in case she misbehaved, but she never did)

Re: Snake Scarf ?????
I've never heard anything bad about it, and I do it ALL the time; Especially with Cleo, since she is shy. She's more comfy there. I do it with all of my snakes though, mainly when I am cleaning tubs. It's a way for me to keep them use to me, keep tabs on them when they don't have anywhere to hang out safely, and I just prefer it.
I have never had a problem; though my hypo is not friendly lately, and is getting in the habit of cutting off blood flow, so no more for him, Ill have to reteach him to not hold so darn tightly. He did that when I got him, and I just made sure to keep a fists room between him and the front of my throat and he soon started to do that on his own, with out me actively spacing it.
He's not trying to choke me out or anything, hes just trying to spin, and his tail gets wedged against the jugular lol.
Things that I don't mention to non-snake people,haha!
So in general, it's no biggie, IMO, but I would definitely be cautious about a 10ft+ snake wrapped around your neck. You never know.

I let him do this all the time
He gets nice and comfortable and I'm free to walk around and clean as I wish
He's never gotten too tight or tried doing anything risky but I always take mental note of where his tail is
If I ever need to, I can just unravel him
