Well, he took the plunge..
Well, something new happened in our life recently :) My husband was doing construction but has decided to go into tattooing fulltime. He works as an independent tattoer/contractor at our friends' shop. His business partner with the construction company he owns has agreed to buy him out.
We have dreams of having our own shop eventually.. Mark had one for a few months back in 2001 but they closed it down for being near a school..
I see this as a little step toward our ultimate goal together: to own a working shop and even eventually have people just tattooing and pulling in most of the money. I even am thinking of learning how to tat.. many women want a female artist, and there really are not as many women into tattooing in this area.. I have done a few tattoos on friends, but I will not claim to being a tattoo artist at this point! I love designing tattoos for people, and have done maybe 30 or so thus far.
So that's a little update on life now. :)

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
congrats girl!!! it takes a lot of courage (not to mention talent) to make it in the tat industry and wish you both all the best!
as far as you go... as an artist... girl you have talent seeping outta your pores! you'd be a GREAT tattoo artist!!!
and you can practice on my skin if you want!

Very cool!!!!
Best of luck with the new endeavor and I hope the best and much success for you and your husband.
Being able to see your hopes, dreams and goals come to light is awesome; you guys will get there!!!! :D

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
Thanks both of you :) If nothing else, I would definately "run" the shop; cash people in; draw up ideas for them; that sort of thing.
I have to get over my own nervousness. I was shocked to learn how different tattooing is from drawing or painting. It is this vibrating machine with a needle that you have to know just how deep to put through the skin. If there are multiple needles in it (called "mags") you would use it for thicker lines and for coloring. In coloring, you can't go in lines as this will show up; you have to do small little circles of color. I am not even a novice but I could prattle on and on and probably bore everyone to death with the info I absorb from him!
The first time I tattooed was hysterical; it was 2001. I helped mark color in the flames on his ankle where he could not reach, as he tattooed himself. There was a little coil no the machine that stuck out and zapped; I zapped Mark's toe with it! He was good about it, and in a few weeks we were dating and the rest is history.
We met because a mutual friend knew that I wanted to get into tattoos and re-introduced us; we had known each other vaguely from parties beforehand but never sat and talked.. the rest is history as they say. ;)

i love your new avatar jen!

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
congrats Jen now you can talk to me forever about tats cause i'm teaching myself how to do tats. I've designed some for my hubby, and did two of his tats to practice. I'm still leary about coloring & shading, so both his tats are just outlines at the moment. :D

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
i've done some colouring in on my hubby's sleeve. it turned out great and i'd love to do some more.
i'd love to tat for a living but i can barely draw stick people and from what i understand... there isn't a HUGE market for scribble tats!

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
Heck, you could practice on me too. I'm easy. My skin is so white, you hardly have to even touch it to get the ink to take hold and I've got two tats that could really use a face lift.
I'd just have to figure out what would be the cheapest method of shipping myself across the country. :D

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
That's awesome Jen, if you or the hubby are ever down in NC look me up, I'm a free canvas to practice on :-D I'd love to do tattooing. My problem is, I consider myself a VERY good drawer, but I tend to erase a lot...so until they make "do-over" ink. I think I'll keep away from tattooing.

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
Hm.. NC.. we have to go there in the near future b/c Mark's friend wants us to scout locations for a shop he wants to open there.. how weird that your state is the state we have to go to!
Thanks everyone.. it is stressful at first to know that Mark cut his ties with what was a steady job mostly.. but seeing as he brought in more money last night than I make in one week, and I am the one that pays our core bills.. things look good! But the concept of saving money is new to me and we have to do that, because if he has a few "cold" weeks, we will need to dip into savings..

Now THAT would be cool!
Of course I kind of WANT to go over to your neck of the woods and go play on your property.....something about 4 wheelers... horses....BPs......yeah, stuff like that! :D :carrot:
Oh, and come to think of it, my hubby has a tat he wants covered so you could just have all sorts of fun turning the existing into something completely different.
He might prove to be a heck of a challenge though because he has very thick, tough skin. When ever he has to go have blood drawn, he has to far warn them to watch how they go about inserting the needle so they don't end up bending it. :O
ARG, all this tattoo talk is making me want another one (hush Aleesha, you're not allowed to add your 2 cents.... you're a bad influence on me!!! :P)

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
oh you sooooooo need another one. i'm getting more work done on my sleeve on friday!!! come on denise... do it!

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
You're going to tattoo your sleeve?
Why not just tattoo your arm and leave the poor sleeves to the sewing machine! :P
Speaking of tats, did you get the goddess one finished you were working on?
-
Re: Well, he took the plunge..
hahahahaha silly that IS my sleeve. she's getting more colour when we are done the flowers. :P
-
Re: Well, he took the plunge..
Well see how much I know!
I just took two "Stupidity Tests" (they were a blast) and both said I'm between 50 to 53% stupid.... guess it's true!!!! :D
Got pix? I've seen some but it's been a while and that was shaping up to be one very sweet tat!

Re: Well, he took the plunge..
