    Updated Ball Python Caresheet
    Heya folks!

I have updated and revamped the old caresheet to reflect our constant learning process with these awesome animals.

    http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=59

If you see any glaring errors or omissions, please shoot me a PM and let me know.

If you have the caresheet bookmarked, you should not have to change it.

Hope this is helpful to folks, both experienced and new! :sunny:

Is it just my computer, or on the right hand side is a portion of it whited out due to the who's online and newest poll portion?

Ok...hopefully that fixed the issue. If anyone continues having trouble with that, let me know and I'll do something different. :)

Idk what the problem was before, but I just read through it with no problem. Nice update :salute:

Actually, I've got a question... When refering to temps(coolside in particular) are you refering to surface or air temps. My cool side surface in the coolhide drops to the high 70's at night(due to changes in my rooms temp), however my coolside air temp stays at about 80. Both are measured w/ Acu-Rite (surface temp w/ probe).

    Thanks. :)

As for the temps...I'm not sure I understand how the ambient temps on the cool side could be about 80, but the inside if the hide would be cooler? Regardless though....ideally, you want the entire enclosure to maintain 80-82 degrees or so...with a warm "basking" spot about ten degrees warmer.

B/c of some heating problems I've placed the heat lamp on the cool side (the hotside stays at about 90-92 with my new Tstat :) ). The bulb is above the cool side hide and my Acu-Rite is on the back of the tank leaning on top of the coolside hide. The Acu-Rite's probe is under the cool side hide, b/c I have another digital thermometer on the other side. I'm assuming that the bulb heats the enclosure's air pretty well, but the surface temp on the cool side isn't effected as much due to the shade from the above heating source.

It's just a hunch... but I know alot of people on this site use 1 Acu-Rite to measure the cool-side-air and the hot-side-surface temp. I have a feeling that the surface under many cool-side-hides are cooler than what the Acu-Rite is reading, even though the unit is placed in the same area.

For using overhead lamp as the heat source...you may be right on that. I actually have one for each end of my tub...not because I feel like I have to...but because I can. :P But I'm also using UTH's on both sides as well.

So long as the temps inside your cool hide are staying in the upper 70's at the very least, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    thanks

It's the picture at the top that caused that. I shrank the picture down to fix it. What screen resolution are you using that it is still causing an issue? (I can shrink it some more if I have to....thanks!)

    Proofreading:

Over Handling -- Frequent intrusions into the enclosure, changes to the enclosure, and/or long frequent handling sessions can cause a shy snake to feel vulnerable and refuse to eat.

Offering New Prey -- Changing prey species (ie: mice to rats) or methods (ie: live to f/t) can cause refusal. Such changes can be made, but may require patience and persistence.

Illness -- If all other possible reasons are elimitated, a vet check may be in order to look for internal parasites, as well as possible infections to the skin, scales, mouth or repsiratory system.

Fortunately, ball pythons are extremely hardy snakes that can go for months (if necessary) of fasting without suffering any ill effects. This gives a responsible keeper plenty of time to figure out why the snake refuses to eat and get them on a regular, consistent feeding regimen.

Ok....I tried a different sort of fix this time. Hopefully that will work for ya.

I threw my screen into 800x600 to see what it looked like...and honestly, that scale just doesn't work for BP.net anymore. Kinda made my eyes cross! :P But hopefully you'll be able to read the whole caresheet now.
