Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I've just set it up... T-stat probe on UTH. T-mometer probe on the surface. (I realized a while ago that I must have put too much aspen in the tank/packed it down too much b/c to get a decnt hot side temp on the surface the UTH was upwards of  120degrees  ). Now I can finally control that.

I've taken out a few handfuls of Aspen on that side to hopefully prevent it from sucking out the all of the heat form the UTH. Just for future references how hot can a heat pad get without burning a BP?

On a side note I didn't realize I could hook up a 2nd probe to the Herpstat, another addition to my argument w/ my girlfriend on why I can't have just onesnake . :D

the UTH should never get hotter then 100˚ in my book, and even that is pretty hot...

Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I've got the Tstat set to 95 right now and my surface temp is about 93.7 so I think removing the extra Aspen was the trick. I'm sure 95 wouldn't burn.

Strange Tstat, in the instruction book it says if the LED is Red it means this, if it's Yellow it means this, and if Green it means this. Unfortuanetly for me the thing is half Orange Half Green right now, O well.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I believe 95 is the highest you should ever go.

T stat for the balls is set at 97 and the inside of their hides on the hot side stays at 95.4

    Pork Chops N' Corn Bread,

What substrate are you using/ how deep? I'm assuming your probe placements are the same as mine.

Aspen about 1/2" deep. The probe is on the Flex under the tubs.

I use UTH and this morning I checked it and it was 95F WOW!
I was actually measuring my temps wrong. I had the thermometer on the top of the hide and it read 88 or something like that.
So I moved it down to the floor for the night and when I woke up it was 95F.
Can't wait for my thermostat to arrive. It's been in the mail since Monday!

I also moved the lights to the cool side cause it was kinda cold. It was reading 76F inside the hides but now this morning it is reading 82-83F inside the hides. Still kinda of warm but again hopefully my thermostats come soon! I could use them right about now!

There's nothing wrong with 95 degrees, just don't go over that. Mine are kept at 95 on the hot side and 84 on the cool side, and they do just fine. Eat every week, thermoregulate normally. No complaints here.

Yeah but I NEVER see her on the hot side... Only after I put her back in she will run over there to the hot side for a few minutes but will head back over to the cool side eventualy...
So it leaves me to think it's too hot I guess...
But your probably right, it's not a bad thing!

Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I think I've heard that most BP's tend to stay on the coolside (I could definetly be wrong  ). I know mine is always in the coolside hide. It got to the point where my BP-OCD took over... everytime I put him back he'd run to the coolside hide. Then, one day after he immediately hid away on the coolside, I picked up his hide and put him by the hot side hide. He did go in it and stay there for a while although it was probably just b/c of him being nervous or scared. I just wan't to make sure he knew it was warmer there. Anyway, after all was said and done he still spending his days in the coolside.

i thought temps were supposed to be 82F and 92F. and thats on top of the substrate right? with my UTH it needs to get up to 95-98 to be at 90 on the surface, im a bit worried but i cant do anything about that.
so what sort of compromise should i make?
    p.s. coco substrate is minimal...

Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
You'd be well advised to set your hot side temp to 95 under the substrate, because your BP can, and will, dig if it wants to get warmer. Remember, they can tell which direction the heat is coming from.

if have to set your tstat to 100F to get it to be 90F on the surface then thats what you have to do. i'll bet that most people here have their tstat set at all sorts of different temps to get the exact temp that is need for the hot side(or cool side...). some have to set higher and some lower. i set mine at 91F and i still pull hot side temps anywhere from 88-95F.

Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
im not sure what temperature will burn a bp but i do know that in the wild air temperatures can get over 110F during the day. they may never feel that though because they hide in burrows all day but they may be able to handle air temps that high for short periods(not that i'm saying to try it).

Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
Thermostat set to 95, temp inside tub is 95. If you walk into my room, you will likely see the majority of the snakes in the back of the tubs, in their hides or lounging with half their body in their hide and half sitting on top of the hide. of course some are always going to be busy-bodies and might be laying lengthwise along the side of the tub. If they were too hot, they would go to the cool side(which they sometimes do, but they just scoot their hide along with them so they are half on, half off the hot spot).
