Which One? (I know you all hate these)
You probably see these a lot. "Help me choose!" polls. Well I'm saving up for a rack and will have room for two new snakes hopefully by Spring or Summer of 2008. I have a few choices in mind but I really can't decide. My current two are one het pied male and one normal female.

My fiance will only tell me "I like pieds" and I've had to repeat myself "We can't affored a piebald yet. What about more pied hets?" My fiance just shrugs and says its up to me to decide what we want next. So AHHHH! I can't make up my mind what comes next.

And I know that in the end its up to what I WANT, but I was just curious as to what you would pick if you were in my shoes.

How about a het female? Then you can breed your little het male to both girls and pop out some possible hets and some pieds... making your fiance happy! :D

although not a fan of these threads... female het pied. Shoot for your goal sooner rather than later, the 50% hets will be painful to grow up then breed after growing up what you have now because you'll just really wanna hit that piebald

It really all depends on your future breeding plans. However, I do like having a visual morph in my collection, and my first was a lemon pastel - so I voted for pastel. But really it was a toss-up between pastel or spider for a visual morph.

If your intention is to breed them someday, then I would totally go for a female het pied. Then make your 4th BP a spider!!

Thats kind of why I'm smack dab in the middle here. I would like a visable morph but at the same time, some hets would be more beneficial to future breeding plans.

If I were in your shoes....and know that I was looking ahead that many months before buying....I'd either pick out an '07 pied female (not het! :P ) and begin a payment plan on her...or, if not that...start saving up for an '08, which may be a tad less expensive anyhow.

Then I'd enjoy the pleasure of raising up my beautiful, beloved visual morph...and start saving for a pastel or spider male to breed her to sometime down the road. (Not to mention the pied babies you'll get her first breeding season with your het pied male. ;) )

Spider...pick one up that is and 06 or older and give her a year to get some weight on her and get a pastel male next year when they'll be even cheaper and make some bees. I love bees. Just my opinion.

The way I decide, I wrote down my top 10 favorite BP and than out of that top ten I decide which one I was the excited to own and the one I was excited to hatch in the future.

I love bees too. And bees eventually lead to killer bees which are one of my favorites.

I wouldn't pick any of them... lol... Lessers, chocolates, sunsets, carmels and normals for me! Maybe a cinny...

Based on your apparent taste and wants though... Het pied... cause if you have two you can have pieds :)

Re: Which One? (I know you all hate these)
Well, personally, I'd want a homozygous male, and some het females to breed him to. If you spend the money on a homozygous, a male can breed to several het females, increasing your chances of homozygous babies. Its more money up front though. Since you're obviously interested in pieds, a homozygous pied male, and as many as 4 or 5 het females. You're het pied male becomes unnecessary at that point (except as a possible backup). You could do the same with albinos, which would be considerably cheaper.

I didn't vote, beause my selection was not listed. What I would suggest would be the best of both worlds. I would start a payment plan on a Pastel Het. Pied female. This would get you a Het Pied female and yet also allow you to have a visual morph. They may be a bit more than you wanted, but it sounds to me like it would be a perfect fit.

I don't see why people'd hate threads like this? What's wrong with helping your fellow forum member decide what snake to get? Not much; it's better than the classic "I didn't follow your previous advice and now my snake has "insert disease here" "threads.. :)
I am not a fan of hets; I am just too impatient. It sounds like you love Pieds; like myself. I personally cannot afford one now, and I figure that i am not into hets.. so I am going into a different direction that could also pay off when I do get Pieds.. I am shooting for pastel/spider combos.
But since you already have one half of the het puzzle in your male, I would get a 100% het female. Unless you go down the popular (deservedly so) Pastel/Spider road
I guess that I am not much help.. I don't know what I want to get next, either!

Re: Which One? (I know you all hate these)
Although my favorite morphs are axanthic and caramel, I voted for the spider as it's my third favorite. :)

But really, it is all about what you want to do. If you see yourself doing some breeding, get the het pied female. If you want a nice pretty to look at morph, get the spider. Whichever way you go, you're bound to have some fun.

A het albino to a het albino will produce a visual, and an het axanthic to a het axathic will produce a visual, but a het ax to a het albino will produce possible het for snows/ax/and albino. Hope it helps.

so in other words het albino to het anx would create a double het.

Re: Which One? (I know you all hate these)
Now of course this is my opinion but spending 2 to 3 thousand dollars on a piebald for your first breeding project is crazy. Unless your totally rich. Id be afraid to even touch it. I went to route of getting a 07 het pied pair for about $650 shipped and with a garantee of getting a pied or they would breed my female with his male pied and i would get half of what he has. And they are doing great so far. So if you really have to have that pied because honestly there is nothing like a pied in my opinion they are hands down the best base morph get some hets. But if it was me and i had to go by spending under $1000 on snakes i would definitly go with a male 07 spider and an 06 female lemon pastel. If you find a breeder that you trust and will work with you can easily get that for $600 to $700 dollars. If you go some big name breeder like 8ball for that id say 800 to 900 bucks. If you go my route you can afford the rack(if you make it) and most of the extras you need for under a grand. And plus you can make bumble bees. They are sweeeeeeeeeeet.

Good luck, i know choices are hard and the second you think you have it youll find some other morph "you just have to have".

Possible het for either albino, or axanthic, and if your luck both.

    thats the truth

so i just did some reading correct me if im wrong, and sorry for hijacking the thread didnt mean to do that in any way shape or form

so this is what i read.

DH is if it is a visible morph like an albino and anax

you would breed those 2 together and they would all look like normals since they would only have one gene from each parent. then you breed the babies back to find out if they have the dh gene. and it can take many tries to find out or not since its a 1 in 16 chance of actually hatching a snow. and if it does prove a snow you can say they are dh for snow

If you breed a visible albino and a visible axanthic you will have normal looking babies that are 100% DH for albino and axanthic. Then you breed those babies together and you can get albinos, axanthics, snows, hets and normals. Those hets will be possible hets because you won't know which are normals and which are hets until you prove them by breeding them and producing visible morphs.
