Thought I would share this just finished illustration with my BP.net buddies!
I thought I remember seeing a BP.net art forum here but I can't seem to find it. I could have seen it on another forum. This is an illustration I did for a friend who had just lost his old buddy a month ago. He had his Bearded Dragon "Clyde" for about 8 years I was told. He didnt have any good photos so I dug one up on the web for refference.
If we do have an appropriate forum for this I will have it moved ASAP. Let me know what you think.

That picture is really good...have you tried doing a Ball yet?
Also, how are they done? pencil, computer, paint, etc?

Re: Thought I would share this just finished illustration with my BP.net buddies!
Hey Lord, thanks a million for the kind words.
I guess I should edit my post and explain the illustration. I did this in pen and ink using high quality rapidiograph technical pens. The whole thing is done in stipple (all dots). There is no lines or any solid colored in black in the entire illustration. This one took about 20 hours to complete.
I am going to do a nice Ball illlustration as soon as I can get the right pictue of my boy but that takes time. Your illustration is only as good as the refference you take it from ;)

Wow! You are super talented! I'm a doodler myself but I never could get the hang of any "real" media. I sketch with pencil, but anything I can't erase (pen/ink, paint, colored pencil, marker, etc.) freaks me out. I like pencil and photoshop--then if I mess up, I can fix it! I'm also too scatterbrained to work on a piece for 20 hours! I'm always impressed with artists who dare to work in un-oopsable media and actually take their time to make each piece just so. I have a lot of friends who are artists, and I admire them all for their dedication to it :)

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, much appreciated! ;) I am going to scan some stuff from my portfolio when I get the chance. I have a komodo dragon and a few other herp related things I have done.
Azure,
Sketching in pencil is my favorite medium. If you ever want any feedback or have any questions feel free to hit me up. I could sit around and talk herps and art all day. By far my two favorite pleasures in life.

Amazing work! Many years ago I had a good friend that did pen and ink with the same method. Used the rapidographs as well. I was always in awe of his work! I tried it myself (used to think of myself as an artist), and never achieved the kinds of things that he did.

That is .....wow! ....fantastic!!! My husband has done some pretty nice works in stipple and it never ceases to amaze me. How do you even know where to place the first dot??? LOL
I would LOVE to see more of your work!!

Re: Thought I would share this just finished illustration with my BP.net buddies!
Wow....nice work!! I can't even imagine the amount of paticent it took to make something like that. I have to use those pens in my architecture studio (I love them) to ink my final boards, but I've never seen anything like that done with them. Every thing we do in there has already been drawn several times and is already structured for us in pencil. Very nice work!! :D

Re: Thought I would share this just finished illustration with my BP.net buddies!
Simply amazing. I could do a lot of techniques very well back when I was taking a lot of art classes - but stippling was one of those that I never had a knack for. I am VERY impressed with your work.
You should start comissioning your work.

Re: Thought I would share this just finished illustration with my BP.net buddies!
Thanks a million for all the good words everyone! Seriously appreciated. Sitting down and spending serious time on an illustration is like my relaxation. Kind of how some people can spend 9 months buildinga model. I am an artist for the chain "Trader Joe's" here in Boston by day. I do all their wall murals which is a nice switch but I still prefer smaller scale detail driven stuff. I also work part time as a tattoo artist at a local shop which is fun.
Blue,
If people wanted to comission an original piece I would defineatly talk with them. I am working on getting a website up which would showcase all of my illustrations for this very reason.
Thanks again!

Now your talking my language! I build model cars, and have spent as much as a year on some. Each component of the model becomes a model in itself, which is how I can do it and not lose interest. My friend that I mentioned previously told me once he always starts with the eyes. He usually did big cats, lions, cheetahs, cougars, etc. He said the same thing, that each part of the animal becomes a project in itself.
