Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Please take a look at my new website.
Any and all comments, critiques, condemnations, and cudos (Yes, I know kudos begins with a 'K' but it didn't fit with the others. :P ) are welcome!
The old site was okay, but I reached the limits of my creative skills so I called upon a professional. I hope you like it.

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Okay...the intro page. It's seriously the most interesting, neatest intro to a site I've ever seen--and I'm not exaggerating. You've got something really unique there! Congratulate your professional for me! Having the side-scroll African Plain with the 3D-looking python morphs as the links to the various pages is genius!
I'm still getting used to the gallery page with the scrolly bit on the bottom (I don't like how it keeps moving when I'm trying to click from one picture to the next). It took awhile for the scrolly pictures to load for me, too...but then my internet's been screwy all night, so it could be that.
Over all, extremely slick! I like!

Loading....
and while it's loading...
do something with the title.... "untitled document" :O
ok..loaded.
I've got to be honest and tell you, I am quite impressed with it. :sweeet:

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
I said it once, and I'll say it again. AWESOME!!! I don't think I can say enough about it. I love the graphics, and general theme. It's truely one of the best bp sites out there!

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
I Love love LOVE the intro/background - awesome.
Your writing is well worded and easy to understand. Your "about" page made me smile, and really comforted me about purchasing from you in the end :)
On that note, I really am not the biggest fan of the galleries. The pics are tiny, uncatogorized, and I really have no idea what Im clicking on. I think prospective buyers should be able to browse and learn about morphs they never knew about  I think that a little tidying up will do the trick, though!
Overall - very impressed :)

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Thanks for the comments, everyone!
I know, I have to edit the "Untitled Document". One of those little things that I haven't fixed yet. I agree with the gallery page, too. I just need more morphs and pics first before I can make a truly nice, categorized gallery.
I'm going to try and improve the quality of the pics as well, but I'm afraid it might make the loading time longer. :( I'm still getting used to this whole "flash" thing, but hopefully I can tweak it enough to where I'm satisfied.
Thanks again. :)

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
I love the concept but everything looks a bit choppy, especially the gallery pics.
Someone with expert HTML/Flash skills could definitely be able to fix this.

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Love it Lawrence! Great job! My only "critique" is that I wish that I could use the scroll wheel on my mouse inside the windows, like the About us, rather than having to actually click the down arrow. Same thing with Available, etc.

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Like others have said, your site is amazing but the gallery did get to me. The site is super clean and fresh looking though. Very original.
So you have a male Pastel for $150 and a female for $300? That is tempting my friend.
-
Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Yep, it looks like I have to work on that gallery. I know what you mean about the scroll wheel as it kind of bugged me, too. I might not be able to make it work in Flash, but I'll try to fix it.
At least I fixed the "untitled document". ;)

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
The page looks amazing, but since your looking for improvement I will give you the nitty gritty from one graphic designer to another.
Home Page
1.) I would try to get a bit higher quality picture for the African Plain will make it look much sharper. You can see it pixelating.
2.) Noticed there is a lot of extra space above and below the flash picture. Also with the flash you might want it higher up so the entire viewing experience can be viewed without having to scroll down.
About Us Page
1.) This page is nice and simple...might want the background transparency to be a little more opaque, because the background makes the text blend a little making it seem darker in random spots. (Kinda hard to describe, but you should be able to notice it.)
Available Page
1.) Same with the blending of the text and the background.
2.) Didnt notice this with the other page, but you might want to disable the click ability of the snakes in the background when a page is brought forth. When scrolling through the available when you click the bottom arrow it was pretty easy to accidentally click one of the snakes which sends you to another page.
Gallery Page
1.) With the big pictures you might want to resize them. One thing many do is put a big picture in a small space. The site will automatically resize, but in doing so it will look really jagged and will hinder the full beauty of the snakes your trying to portray.
2.) With the scrolling pictures only one thing i noticed. They tend to wiggle a bit when scrolling. There are two ways to avoid this. With the tweening you can added more frames so it looks smoother or you can have the scroll move faster so it is less noticable.
Library Page
1.) Might want center the text or add a pic to get rid of the void on the right.
2.) Lots of extra scrolling space on the care sheet page.
3.) Same thing with the blending issue.
4.) Not sure why could be firefox, but if you leave the care sheet page by itself it will just dance up and down.
Contact Us Page
1.) Great!
All in all the site is pretty amazing great idea. Hope you take some of the advice into consideration...and I look foward to the success of your site and business.
Congrats!!
also a little ambient music would be cool...maybe even African music.

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Awesome site! I think it looks great and with a little polishing it could be amazing. A cool idea I thought of, since it is flash, was to make a flash type Punnet Square. So people can then go to your site and play around with genetics. Have it so you can select genes and set them up so you can see what the results are. I think it would make a cool interactive tool and it would be original(havn't seen or heard of one yet). It would take a bit of work, but I think it would be worth it. You would probably get a lot of traffic just from people on this site.

 Lawrence that is an amazing website !

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Lawrence,
The site looks great. I love the concept. I won't mention any improvements, as if you fix the ones mentioned previously you'll be rockin along. The loading time is the only thing that I can think of that may agitate a potential customer when trying to navigate.
-
Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Thanks again for all of the compliments and suggestions. I REALLY appreciate it!
I noticed few comments about the pixelation of the pics and the loading times, and they seem to be working against each other. If I fix the pixelation the loading times will go up and vice versa, so I may just put up an HTML page with the same theme for those with slower connections and improve the flash one for higher resolution which will unfortunately increase the loading time.
Oh, and a great idea about the Flash Punnett square. :sweeet:

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
It is a very cool site! Love the rolling galleries

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Okay, I sort of "fixed" it again. The page was originally designed around an 800x600 resolution, but I expanded it to 1024x768 because it fit my screen better. The problem is that I'm not sure how many people use one resolution over the other. If more people still use 800x600 then I wouldn't want to create a site that they have to scroll around, on the other hand I wouldn't want the hi-res people squinting at my site.
I think it's time for a poll...

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
VERY impressive, Lawrence!! Bravo!!
I do think it would be a good idea to have a link to an HTML alternative for folks either with slow access or who don't use Flash, for whatever reason.
-
Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
WOW! That is probably the most amazing site I've ever seen.
-
Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
I have not seen a site like that before, very inventive and entertaining, nice job! :)

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Its Great!...and I love the African ambient music idea that was mentioned....

The size change really helped with the resolution and speeds up the scrolling...kudos!

Thanks, but I'm afraid it might be a little too small for people that have high resolutions. I'll have to rework it to get it bigger (unfortunately more to load), but I'll do it with an HTML option at the same time.

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Awesome page, the only thing I'd say, is due to people with crappier systems, you may want to have a way where they can get away from all of the visual effects and have more of a text and picture based page. Other then that it's awesome!
Oh, and I'll be ending a carrier pigeon sometime soon :)

Re: Introducing the new Superior Serpents Website
Just my idea that you can please people with slower connection (believe it or not, but slow connection still exists lol)
1) Tell your web designer(or the guy who input Flash code) to add some pic or maybe some basic genetic rules like Pastel x Pastel = Pastel/Pastel/Normal/Normal with nice pic. So people can see something while it's still loading.
When you input Flash code for the loading "bar" it's actually several pictures of how far the loading bar go 0%-100% maybe got 10-20 pics. So you can tell him to put like 3-4 genetic info into the loading scene. My English is bad and I haven't do any Flash for years now (used to work in web design company years ago in Texas) so maybe you can skip to my second suggestion....
2) make HTML page as well lol
