Man Oh Man
The new blood just took the biggest dump I've ever seen in my life. Haha it was a monster. Comparable to a large dogs. And boy did it reek (sp).
Got it all cleaned out with a full gallon of mixed chlorhexidine. Just the 1 oz pump to a gallon of water.
But it still smells like ****!!!!
Is my last option to use a higher concentration of chlorhexidine to water before the rinse. Or a bleachy water solution?
This is the blood I aquired from lillyorchid. So many of you know his size and beauty :) pics of him and I will be posted as soon as I can. Along with pics of the turd that caused a small earthquake.

Re: Man Oh Man
Chlorhexidine really isn't used for cleaning, it's for disinfecting. If the tub is really bad, I'll take it to the tub and use palmolive on it, then chlorhexidine. Vinegar or bleach work well too.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
So more or less a full tub disinfection with bleach water. I did it today just used chlorhexidine though.
I will probably go ahead and do the bleach. Nothing like doing the whole thing all over again. Its okay though.
And yeah its still stinky. But man I scrubbed that thing good. And it still smells. What a trooper he is :)

Re: Man Oh Man
When my boa defecates, it looks like a mastiff has been inside her tub. I just take the whole thing outside(it's a VE-175 from reptile tubs) and scrub it with dish soap.
For the chlorhexidine, I usually use 2-3 oz per gallon. Safe to spray on the snake at the concentration too. Mine usually get a wipedown if there is poo present in their tub. Icky little things, LOL.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Wow you clean him off with that concentration? Didn't know that was safe. I always went by the 1 pump to 1 gallon rule. I'm getting ready to bleach his tub as we speak. Ill go ahead and dishsoap it too. Its stinky. Haha.
And yeah I wipe mine down after they poo or pee. They don't seem to mind too much.

Re: Man Oh Man
I dont know about full strength chlorhexidine but I know a 50/50 solution was what the vet told me to use on a mild case of scale rot a rescue we took in last year had.

Re: Man Oh Man
Wow I didn't know they used the mixture that strong like that. Good to know though. I know the 1 pump per gallon ratio doesn't need a rinse afterwards though.
On a better note. I got the whole setup bleached and rinsed well. Then another rinse with chlorhexidine. Just to be sure all the bleach was gone.
Put it all back together. Smell free!!! That makes me feel better. And I'm sure he appreciates it without the smell also.
Hopefully the roommate shows up so I can upload the pics I took of him and his king kong dump. Be watching out for em.

Oh NO!!! this poo was unlike any other. A gift from hell you could say. I know they're poop stinks just from the way they're digestive system works. Especially with the raw meat diet. Its just the balls poo never stank this bad. The cool thing was he passed some urates the same size as the poo. Pics will show.
(Hurry up roommate)

Re: Man Oh Man
beautiful blood you got there...
Oh no. thats some big do doo. But good thing with bloods is that they rarely go. maybe 4 or 5times a year.
On an another note. I read on another forum that someone fed their boa rabbits and it did not stink as much as the other boa he fed rats.
Ill stick with rats imo even though it stinks.

Re: Man Oh Man
question....is that the 41qt tub?
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Yeah those pictures don't do any justice!!
He's a sweetie though. I can put up with a poo 4 or 5 times a year.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Yes sir it is.

Re: Man Oh Man
i'd rather have a nice whole log...........than finger painting all across the tub! i have one that will not leave the paper towels in place, poos then leaves me nice poo prints! she is such a (P.I.T.A)

Re: Man Oh Man
LOL yup, when he goes... HE GOES! Just be happy it wasn't on you. I wasn't that lucky one time and yeah that wasn't pleasant. Glad he's doing well for you! I sure do miss that big ol' hissing baby.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
That's understandable allison. He's in good hands. He sure is a hisser though!!! I look past it though. And have only felt 1 time he really didn't wanna be held.
Other than that he seems to enjoy it! He likes to crawl off my arms and sit on the floor looking straight at me. Like "don't you know who I am?!?!? I'm a blood!!!!!"
You'll have to pardon the small water dish. Its actually about 5 inches across. I had a bigger one but was no way able to control humidity. So the smaller dish had to be the only choice. He still gets in it and runs through it every once in a while.

Re: Man Oh Man
lol not many places you can chat about this in a group session. Funny telling the missus "oh just looking at some snake poo" be right there.
Wait till your Blood graduates to 30+ Ibs you move up from Great Dane to Horse size deposits, also your nose takes as much a beating as before but for longer.

Re: Man Oh Man
If the humidity is to high I found using one of these works best. The soldering stick makes ugly small holes and burned me twice...
Not the cleanest, but cleaner hole once dusted.
use a power drill and drill slowly at first..a lot of sizes at the hardwood store.

Re: Man Oh Man
Oh a paddle bit? That's not a bad idea. I just wanna make sure I keep the holes small enough he can't squeeze out of one. Haha.
I might do that. His tub is riddled with a ton of 1/4 inch soldering iron holes.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Those holes are a pain. First few comes out clean but gets the nasty buildup after. Plus it stinks.
Its a drill hole bit.....I got the 1/2 inch...but there is various of sizes...
I love the bit...Soldering iron is made to solder not to make holes. :P
You'll love it.Trust me. :D
-
Re: Man Oh Man
The soldering iron, IMHO, is so much easier. Sure it gets build up, if you let it sit in the hole for too long. I just take a wet paper towel and wipe it off. Works just fine.
Those little rinky dink $3 soldering irons don't solder worth a darn. I had to buy a $30 professional gun-type soldering iron just to do the flexwatt connections. I've bought 4-5 soldering irons just trying them out, and none will make nice connections or even get hot enough to melt solder(which is sad since it has such a low melting point, LOL). I think the brand I have is a Weller. The last one of my dads lasted for about 25 years, so hopefully this one will too.
Oh, and don't buy a Cold Heat soldering iron. Those things are HORRIBLE!

Re: Man Oh Man
I use the portable one from radio shack. 20 bucks and butane powered. Gets hot in about 30 seconds. Tough too. I use it on my truck. Electronic stuff. Etc.... I always make sure to clean it off really well first though. Or maybe that's why I have 2 of em. 1 for electronics. 1 for the tubs.
And yeah sure with soldering irons there's a little build up. But I'd be afraid to crack a tub with a drill bit. I will definetley try to make em bigger with the iron first. Then a bit later if I have to.

It didnt crack on mines. Rubbermaid or the Sterilite tubs. Just push it in slightly, or fainty. It will do the job.

Re: Man Oh Man
I just use a heated up old screw driver or drill bit to make holes in my tubs. I just let it sit over the flame on my stove for a minute or two till it's hot enough to melt the hard plastic.
Also with him he will try to soak in any kind of water bowl you give him. In the end he will have it spilled everywhere. I went though this with him almost daily. Can't tell you how many water bowls I tried with him in hopes he'd stop soaking and or just knocking the water bowls/cups over. It didn't happen. I ended up just spot cleaning his wet bedding every other day.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Tell you what I just did. I put his original 8 inch water dish in. Made the holes in the lid bigger. Big enough for him to soak in easily.
Tested it and humidity stayed steady at 60%. I need to bump it up to around 65. Ill keep testing it.
He does like to soak though!! He slides through his smaller water bowl trying to soak. Its cute. Haha
-
Re: Man Oh Man
poke a few at a time. if the humidity drops to much then just tape them up.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Well the humidity shot up to 73. Damn. It always seems to go up at night. The balls tub is rock solid. I must have just got lucky. Its got like 8 holes taped up though.
Ill just keep using the fan in the room. When I can get the chance ill make the other holes bigger.
I hate going through all the trouble. But I know he'll enjoy a bowl big enough to soak in.

Re: Man Oh Man
My bad!! Holes in the lid are bigger. Around 3/8 to 1/2. Humidity steady around 65%.
Fed him today. Ate like a champ like always. And then went into his bigger water bowl and soaked. I was happy. I got the water level just right. He can fully submerge himself and not spill a drop.
I wanna weigh him.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
lol. your a pro! got the water just right!
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Haha thanks! Yeah dude the water comes right to the very edge of the water bowl. Another drop and itd have overflowed haha.
Ill probably come home tonight to find the water did spill and the humidity is 90%. Just because he thinks he's cool and decided to spill some water.
Have you got a weight on yours? And what are you feeding? He was a monster in that video.
-
Re: Man Oh Man
heh. Try a ceramic one. The kind that has the same circumference for the rim and the bottom.
Shes 1873grams. But thats a month ago. Im feeding her small rats every 2 weeks. She can take down a medium but I dont want her to get fat. She take her time too. lol. After shes done constricting it, she takes about 15-20mins wondering around, sniffing, dragging, rub her noise over it and the newspaper, then she eats it. Just as long as she eats it I guess.
What about yours?
-
Re: Man Oh Man
Yeah mines real careful about eating too. He only drags it around for about 5 minutes though.
I need to weigh him asap. I dont have a scale though. He's a big boy I know that much. Ill make sure to post a weight on him as soon I can.
He eats a small rat every friday.
