How often do you take 'em out

I'm asking because I take mine out almost every day (except on feeding day) for about an hour a day. She always wants to come out and explore all the time and my husband makes fun saying I don't spend enough time with her. I try to tell him different but you know how men are (jk guys:bounce: ). Any ways I was just curious, how often do you guys take yours out?

I've been taken my BP out every day for about 30 min. except for the 2 days after feeding.

usually 2 days a week sometimes 3. dont wanna stress em to much.

Everyday...I give both snakes some time with their master...and because of this my older one is probably one of the most calm snakes ever (my baby one is still shy, but getting used to it). Which is what I like...I always have people over who are just as fascinated with snakes as I am and it makes everything better when I don't have to be concerned about my guy biting anyone. The process takes time, but is worth it in the end.

I take mine out about twice a month or so.

When they were young I tried to handle them daily but now that they are over a year I just let them chill and take them out every once in a while to hang out.
Of course they get handled weekly for a few mins when cage cleaning is done.
My 4yo I take out maybe a little more because he likes to look around and see what is going on. :)

I tend to handle my snakes very little. I like to let them alone because it seems like they are always in stages of either being grown for breeding; breeding; gravid; or recovering and gaining weight for the next breeding ;) Or in shed, if none of the above..
I like bringing them out when people come over. I am always one for getting people to touch, see and even hold them.. it is great to have people learn that they are not disgusting slimy monsters. If someone is more timid (like my mom!) I will get a smaller and less threatening one out. For those that like the big ones, I get out the BCI or my larger female. :)
And of course I take all of them out for periodic weigh-ins and photo ops.

Depends on the snake and how comfortable they are with it. I handle them just enough to keep them handler friendly. The ones that love to be out I will get out more often.

I handle mine less than an hour a week for cleaning and or feeding. It's pretty finicky with food so I'm going to leave it untouched except for regular maintenance and see how it goes for the next 4 weeks. I'm keeping track of it's eating habits.

I handle my snakes CONSTANTLY. everyday, for a good deal of time per day. they don't seem to mind, and they don't seem stressed at all. in fact, whenever i find my boa in dark, a few minutes of handling usually yields a light snake. my snakes eat fine and everything. only i time i don't handle is after feed and during shed. such is the occasion now. BOTH snakes have gone blue at the SAME TIME!!! so needless to say, Dot, my Emperor Scorpion has received a decent amount of handling this past weekend ^_^

I usually handle my guys twice a week, not counting removing them from their tubs for cleaning/ weighing.

I believe that handling is for the owner's pleasure, not for the snakes. The snakes tolerate handling. I handle mine about 2 x a week. I don't notice that the ones that were handled more are any more "handleable" than the ones that are held less often. My whole crew is pretty laid back for the most part.


I always keep handling sessions short (less than 30 minutes) and am always mindful that handling sessions are because I enjoy them, not the other way around.

Usually once a day except for feeding days and day after feeding.

usually every day except for feeding days(2). it doesnt seem to mind and i think its getting used to me quick. because whenever i let someone hold it like my friend, mom, brothers, dad, it always tries to come back to me.

I handle snakes every single day but with over a hundred of them it doesn't add up to very often for them. Each one gets handled briefly every week or two depending on how often I have to clean their cages. The messy ones get handled a lot more often.

I pretty much have the same routine as Rabernet. Twice a week for about 15 minutes each time. Although I love handling sessions, I love knowing he is 100% comfortable and at home in his cage even more. That to me is the rewarding part of having a BP. Bonding while you watch them grow and age in good health ;)

I handle my ball at least ocne a day for about 30 minutes except for the two ays following feeding. He is snarky then. So far he is eatig with a fever. I did not even get the last mouse in cage before he struck so.

I put three times a week because sometimes I have them out every day, and sometimes I don't--depends on how busy I am and how much I think I'm gonna get pooed on!!! :P

The only time I handle any of mine is when it's cage cleaning day, a friend(s) comes over and wants to see them. I always do atleast a weekly check on everyone just to make sure no one has anything going on that will need a vets attention. Other then that I hardly ever handle any of them. I think it's best that way since they don't like being handled and it tends to stress them out. My snakes are all very mellow so I have no trouble going long periods of time without handling them then taking them out one day.

I handle mine just about every day except for 2 days after feeding and during shed obv... I dont tend to handle for too long(15mins) but I do allow them to free roam my room. I dont do this with my little ones because theyre too small and would dissapear in a heart beat.... But with my older ones they love to venture... My room is sealed off and kept very clean so they cant get into anything they shouldnt... They tend to stick to the outside walls and its never hard to find them. I do this to give them exercise and it seems to help with their personalities. They get anywhere from 1/2hr - 3 hrs out pending what I'm doing... I dont force them to come out... they tell me... easy to see when theyre all scaling the walls of their tubs bc they wanna come out... I dont reccomend this with babies or in a room where they can get into trouble... Ive been doing this for over a yr now and have never ran into a problem so it can be done safely for both the snake and me.

i handle my balls around once a week. i monitor them always and may throw in a little handling time more than once a week just to check up.:snake:

I tend to be a little sporatic with my handling of the babies. The big boy gets handled whenever he's in the mood. Sometimes he'll just curl up with me on the couch or on the bed. He seems to find some sort of solace inside my shirt (only does it to me) and when I sit "indian style" he liked to curl around my ankles and thighs. He's a funny guy. He is also the big boy so when he starts to get stressed out it's really easy to tell, he tries to hide behind the bed or in the couch cushions. As long as he stays on me without any kind of guidance he stays out. Sometimes it's 5 minutes and sometimes it's a couple hours. I let him run the show. Now Pandora is the tricky one, she's growing, constantly hungry and in a state of feeding day, recovering from feeding or shedding... she gets handled rarely. The hard part for me is to get rid of the notion of "neglecting" them by NOT handling them. They're not a dog and they really couldn't care less. I also get the flack of "ignoring the babies."

About three times a week. Ckeck on the daily but take them out at least three times a week! ;)

This Thread Is Cool, Its Neat Seeing How People Handle Their Snakes Differently. The Graph Seems To Be Really Close Which Means Theres A Bunch Of Diversity. As For Myself I Usually Handle My Bp's Erryday Minus The Two Days After Feeding.

Thanks, as I said before I was getting flack from my hubby for "only" holding her about 4/5 days a week. Every day as soon as she sees me she'll come out of her hide and scale the tank wanting out, and he says " see even she thinks your neglecting her" she likes to look around and she love's the tv, my hubby was playing Halo 3 last night and she spent an hour and a half sitting perfectly still watching Master Chief! I love that there's not just one answer very diverse very cool.

I handle each one when im cleaning tubs, only long enough to take a good look at them, making sure there are no problems going on.... So im only handling each one for maybe a minute or two.

That's generally how I do it. Every now and then I get a hankering to hold for about 15 minutes or so, to really study the nuances in their pattern and be in awe of what a magnificant creature they are. My only problem is then deciding which one to hold! LOL

Take turns with them and hold them in a row :P

They get held and examined while their tubs are cleaned, and then they get weighed before they're fed (at least several hours, or a full day). It works out to each snake being held fairly frequently, 3 or 4 times per week for 15 min or more at a time. Only exceptions are when in shed, 2 days after eating, or if they've refused a meal.

I know what you mean Robin, every now and then I get a hankering to just hold a snake and examine the pattern and let it glide through my hands. I'm sure the snake would be very happy if I just left it alone, but I find handling snakes to be very relaxing.

They are out for about 1/2 hour each. I think it helps keep them strong and healthy and of course used to people. I've really noticed they don't get as stressed when they are used to being held.

None of my balls are very shy. My corn is shy though...for a corn anyway.

About 3 times a week or so or more depending.
It obviously depends on shedding, eating, and stuff but I love to hold them when I can. :]

Even with my limited handling, mine are very relaxed and rarely ball either. I don't have any that are shy either. ;)

Every evening (except after eating/during shed) for at least an hour. Sometimes shell just fall asleep between my legs and my laptop(shes just a baby), sometimes she explores. She is an exceptional eater, and never balls up. I am very observant to see if she seems stressed (and I handled her less that one day she was), but if not, I want to make her as socialized as possible.

And though this may be wrong, as I'm just a beginner with snakes and no expert...but she seems to do very little moving around in her vivarium, so I consider this time also good for her as it is a bit of exercise.

I wish I could take mine out more!!! I still need to get her feeding on schedule every week.

I check mine every day (for spot cleaning) and handle once a week when doing general cleaning weighting and giving the once over (big guys).

I handle the hatchlings everyday (except after eating).

I answered this as I would for just my BP, which is a couple times a week.

My boa I handle on a schedule: After he eats I wait 6 days, then I handle him every day until he poops, then I feed again. So, I usually handle him 4 or 5 days in a row. I try to be pretty religious about it, since I think it helps his bowels mobilize. Otherwise the BCA will just hold on to his poops and I will never get any food in him :P
Once he's grown I will probably handle him a couple days a week except during feeding weeks.

Usually once a week. For cleaning.

I hold my snakes on average once a week. My blood python gets the most attention but that's cause she's my favorite :). She knows who her papa is :)

I handle mine around 5 times a week. So pretty much every day unless I'm really busy. The ball is still settling in so I have to use a ton of will power not to handle my pretty girl for a week.

Well, this is in the BP forum, but the Poll states "snakes" so I'll chime in even though I don't own a Royal. I didn't vote because my answer doesn't fall in the categories.

I don't handle my boas that often. Many many moon ago when I had just a few, I took them out once a week. But now that I have a lot more, they are lucky to come out once a month. Not because I own so many, just a personal preference in regards to their privacy.

I hold my baby Ki when ever he will let me! He is mommies little angel! I love him so much. He is my baby! I'm getting a little girl today so I know after 2 weeks of leaving her alone i will be able to love on her too!:banana:*excited*

I usually take my Bps out once or twice a week. They come out on rack cleaning day (obviously) and my first girl who is just as sweet as can be is out more often than the others just chilling with me while I'm surfing Bp.net etc.....
