First breeding season?
How many here have this upcoming breeding season as your first? I have two girls that are of size and I am TERRIFIED! Don't get me wrong, I am excited as can be too, but I am still TERRIFIED. I am following Adams breeding calendar (Thank You Thank You Thank You Adam!!) so I am sure it will all be fine, lol. Anyone else have their nerves on edge?

Re: First breeding season?

Re: First breeding season?
Every breeding season scared the @#&* out of me! This by far won't be my first breeding season but still feels like the first with my nerves! Man I love this business!

Re: First breeding season?
I got my first clutch last year(still incubating), but this year I should have a lot more girls ready, a lot more males, and a lot more fun!

I totally relate to what you're saying. I have three girls that are up to size, but one is sort of iffy - I think I may let her wait another year. Then I think of all sorts of reasons that I should just wait for next year for all of them, mainly because I'm also terrified!
I admit it, I'm scared!

Re: First breeding season?
This will be my second season. I had 2 clutches this spring, and one wasn't even bps. We will potentially have 15 to 17 clutches next spring including albinos, pieds, pastels, spiders, combo hets, and spotted pythons. To say that I'm nervous about it would be a huge understatement! I desperately want to see some baby albinos and pieds!!!!

Re: First breeding season?
The season before last was my first season, but it was more like stumbling around about something I had no idea how to deal with. This cooming season is actually planned and prepared for, with up to 7 breedable females. Definately nerve racking and exciting!

Re: First breeding season?
This will be my 3rd season breeding. I should have right many females ready. I still get a little nervous but it is exciting. I am waiting on the answer to a breeding loan then I can get all the snakes moved around and get records going of who it going to be bred with what. Good luck to everyone this season.

Re: First breeding season?
Not my first... I'm a major breeding vet with ONE clutch under my belt, and I even missed them pipping!
I'm excited, and only have two females ready. Two others are close, but I doubt they'll make it. I have to say I'm so excited, but still very nervous too.

Re: First breeding season?
this will be my first year also and I'm scared I'm going to do something wrong..lol..actually I'm more nervous about the vermiculite and incubating...making sure I do it right

Re: First breeding season?
This will be my first season and I am very very very excited:carrot:… did I mention how excited I was??? ;)

Re: First breeding season?
This last season I tried one of my females...but no dice. She's even bigger this year, as are a couple of other girls I have.
I'm hoping on 3-5 clutches for my first season with eggs, should be some fun stuff!:D

Re: First breeding season?
This will be my first year as well, I am very excited to see how it goes. I have 1 female ready and possible 1 other. I am also using Adams calander, can't wait to get started..

Re: First breeding season?
This will be my second season and I think I have 4 girls that will be ready(Amani, Breth, Alaranth and Arith). I don't know if I'll pair them all up though. Depends on it I have the room or not. The males that should be ready to breed will be the Pastel, the Yellowbelly, the het Pied, MAYBE the Spider male and MAYBE the Black Pastel. I started cooling last season in January and started pairing in February. Worked out just fine :)

Re: First breeding season?
Will have at least one ready to try my luck! Maybe two but its highly doubtful. And like everyone extremely excited. Unless the snake gods can find me some huge females and in a hurry and drop them in my lap!
-
Re: First breeding season?
My first season also. I only have one large female, about 1900 gm so a pretty good size. I'm still worried though that maybe she just won't go. Maybe I should get another large female or 2.

Re: First breeding season?
I'm HOPING my big girl will be ready this year.. I've only got one that's even close to the possibility, and she doesn't want to work with me on feeding at the moment... She's 4ft and just under 1400g, so unless she starts eating consistently I can't see her making it. The problem is she only eats live so far, and live is difficult for me to work out at the moment... Switching her to F/T will also take time if she'll switch at all, and if she's going to breed this year fasting is not something she can do right now.

Re: First breeding season?
All of my snakes take F/T consistently except my pastel male. The hatchlings don't seem to care. They're voracious eaters. My 3 normal females take F/T rats off the tub floor. I don't even need to elicit a strike. They just grab them and eat them. Its great. I hope my future snakes are just as agreeable eaters.

Re: First breeding season?
My first season too!
I have two girls who are definitely big enough, and two that I'm hoping will be ready later in the season. My pinstripe male and pastel male should see some action, and possibly one of my het albino males to make some 50% girls...I haven't quite decided yet.
I'm giddy but rational and focussed. I've already acquired a broken down mini-fridge to make an incubator, and am building a 30-slot baby rack this weekend...it's going to house baby redtails for now, but mainly it's for my ball hatchlings this spring.

Re: First breeding season?
It's great to see that so many others here will be right along with the "Oh my God, I have eggs!!!"
Oh and Jess, I have never heard of your kind of skink before, they are really neat looking. How are your Catahoulagins doing?

Re: First breeding season?
Thanks Ingrid! He(?) is just the cutest little dinosaur wannabe ever. He looks so fierce when he's eating crickets. I saw them on KS a while back and thought they were cute so I read up on them, but had no plans on getting one as they seemed uncommon and then the next month, there he was at the OK herp expo, and I swear his deli cup said "Obtained expressly for Jess". My bf said he couldn't see it, but I know it was there in the fine print. ;-)
My 'Houla girl is doing great...stole an entire pizza off the counter where it was cooling this afternoon. I walked back into the room just as she was walking out licking her lips. My fault, I shouldn't have left it out. She is such an imp, I adore her. :-) How are your kids?
-
Re: First breeding season?
LOL! I can just see the "but I'm a Houla, you can't get mad at me" grin! I cannot leave ANYTHING on the counters with Maddox. All my kids are doing great but we miss Maverick something fierce, don't know how people can foster on a regular basis.
