Geees its only cable
As some of you know i work for comcast cable company........i just wanted to share what happened to me last night. i'll try and make this short
i work the 4pm to 12:30 am shift.......we as a cable company have telephony and we work around the clock to have the service up and running because of 911..........
so my dispatch calls me about 8:30pm i want to say, and they tell me there's a couple of calls (from customers) that there service is going on and off..(more than 3 calls in a certain area is called and outage.....outage is high priority)
anyway i rush out there and i begin troubleshooting..............
a female customer comes out of her house screaming at me, which is no big deal it happens all the time, but this time was different.
remember i work late hours so it's a little scary out there at night by yourself most of the time and you really have to be careful
anyway i'm up in the bucket and i hear her yelling, i try to calm her down and she uses every four letter word in the book to call me (i'm still ok with this, i get cursed at all the time over cable issues,)
but the next thing she said kind of freaked me out her exact words were "you better fix it or i'm going to come out here at @@@@ing SHOOT YOU!
Very dark outside, i'm by myself, and this lady is very upset!
Now i know it sounds weird but i called the cops on her. why in the world would you threaten someone who is trying to fix your problem.....I didn't cause it!
the cops took 25min...........told me filing a complaint is a waste of time.......after the cop spoke to the lady, he told me she was drunk, and stupid and that she was not going to hurt me (the way the cop was saying it was as if i was overreacting!) What if she was serious! how can you tell....thanks for protecting me! I was just trying to do my job!
oh yea i think all of this was because she was watching army wives or something........she wanted to kill me over army wives! i have never seen the show, but it must be good!
i really don't want to come off as a whiny little scared baby, but i thought i had every right to call the cops.......guess i was wrong, the cops made me feel just as bad................... :salute:

Re: Geees its only cable
Hey better safe than sorry, never can tell with some people nowadays. Although the cop really shouldn't have made you feel stupid about calling, esp since she threatened to shoot you. Glad to hear she wasnt serious though.
-
Re: Geees its only cable
cops dont always help, it happened to a friend of mine a couple of months ago.
-
Re: Geees its only cable
I've no clue where you live but how incredibly unprofessional of that police officer to speak that way to you! He can think it all he wants but he should have had enough respect for you and for the job to keep those kind of comments to himself and the squad room! I'd note this with your company's supervisor and suggest that they as a company have a chat with the local police department community relations officer. You did the right thing...a specific threat involving a firearm was screamed at you...the cop acted like an idiot and deserves to have a nice chat with his sgt.
-
Re: Geees its only cable
That is very scary actually!
So what the cops are saying is that if someone shouts at you "death threats" there is nothing wrong with that... (as long as they are drunk)
That is the weirdest thing, and I agree with "frankykeno". Something else should be done... Even just bring it up to your boss and see what he/she says about it.
Personally, I would have got out of my "bucket thing" put everything away and left the area. If people cannot show just a little respect then they don't deserve service. All she had to do was stay in the house and shut up eh!
I work at a call center and if someone called me and started sreaming at me and swearing... I would probably ask they once to calm down maybe twice depending, and if not...
They wouldn't be getting help from me until they applogized. And they would be more then welcome to speak to a manager...
I'd bring it up to your manager!!!

Re: Geees its only cable
Unless you live in one of those facist states I would be exercising your 2nd Amendment rights. I don't go anywhere unarmed anymore. We have had a rash of car jacking and muggings (in daylight and night) - in posh neighborhoods even.
This women drunk or not I am sure at the time meant what she said...you got lucky she calmed down (and that you fixed her cable :D )
-
Re: Geees its only cable
thanks all for your comments..................i would not have called the cops if i didn't feel she was serious......and her body language and tone was enough for me, i don't care what the cop said!
maybe the news has me a little freaked out but ...........
PS. A girl from that town, was killed in the Vtech shootings.....you would think these guys would take something like this serious

That explains why they have one of the highest crime rates in the US...only the criminals have guns. An entire state of sheeple

Re: Geees its only cable
GUNS ARE BAD!
In my opinion anyone who has a gun that isn't being used to hurt during the season should be in jail.
I wonder why the US has a gun probably and Canada not as bad.
I know all handguns in Canada are illegal unless you have some crazy a** permit. And you can only use them at the shooting range and not for hunting.
-
Re: Geees its only cable
i think what the cop was trying is to say is "you're wasting my time with a stupid situation like this" or in his mind he was thinking "aw man another argument".

This is the same dumb rational that has lead Canada to have one of the highest murder and violent crime rates in the world. (Australia who also bans citizens from protecting themselves has the highest). Your comment about the US having an issue and Canada not is just plain wrong...check your facts. Canada's per captia murder/violent crime rate is almost double the US's.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Even if guns are outlawed, criminals will still get there hands on them. That's why they are criminals. They didn't care enough about to law to follow it, so why not carry a firearm and ensure their get-away? It's impossible to successfully "outlaw" a problem, if guns become illegal, gun problems won't go away. Just like drugs. People will always have them, whether legally or illegally. However you can tighten restrictions on WHO can get firearms (such as known criminals, however this won't stop everyone though), but the best way to stop most firearm related instances is to teach gun safety/respect. I am the proud owner of many firearms, and until my dying day will exercise my right to own them.

Excellent Points.
I know some might be interested so here is a news paper article about the Canada vs. US crime rates and how Canada has tried to blame the US for their folly over gun control...they basically did it to themselves (sorry to all my Canadian friends that your government has put you at risk - but you are welcome to move down here)

I didnt say Canada does not have an issue... I said it is rated less then the US.
And I did what you said and went and checked my facts
This is the Murder rate per capita in the world
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cr...ers-per-capita
US is ranked #24
Canada is ranked #44
Columbia is 1st
This is the Murder rate per capita in the world BY GUNS
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cr...rms-per-capita
US is ranked #8
Canada is ranked #20
South Africa is 1st.
Admitting that you have a gun problem can be hard, but it's the first step to recovery. *jj*
But I was just wondering why such a big difference... it's not like we are devided by water or anything like that...
Guns should be available over here just as much over there.... well actually they shouldnt be, but you know what I mean!

The problem with the source you are looking at is that it is almost 10 years old (also the source is the UN which has been trying to get the US to ban guns so we too can become helpless - so I wouldn't put too much faith in their numbers). A lot has changed in that time including Canada banning handguns for its citizens. If you read the article I posted you will see the increase in crime (murder, sex assult, other violent crimes) is sky rocketting. Canada is now 50% (which means DOUBLE) the rate of the US in the past couple of years.
But don't worry you still have the vote so you can fix your country before it is too late - *GK* right back at ya!:D

Oh, c'mon... you can't criticize his data because it's from the UN but then use your reference from Newsmax. (Newsmax: "supported by a group of conservative investors") Besides, if the UN numbers were so skewed because they want the US to ban guns, don't you think they would have skewed it to place us more than 24th?
And at least he provided data. The newsmax article just references a gun proponent who cites some other columnist that supposedly has data. If you're going to criticize someones data, at least have your own to back it up.

If you would have read my post I criticized it because of how old it was...I also (like he did) included my personal oppinion about the validity of the data. As far as how skewed I "think" it might be they included data from justifiable homisides (ie. those where a person protected themselves which I feel is misleading but again this is my opinion on the subject...it doesn't negate the age of the data on a topic where the statics can change quickly)
If you have a source you would like let me know and I will try and find it.

My only point was that he had actual data instead of just referencing an article about some guy that referenced someone else that supposedly had data. The problem is that you used that 3rd rate data to back up your claim:

I'm not arguing which one is right or which is wrong, but as an observer I would tend to believe the 10 year old data than that which was referenced in your article.

My only point of data was that Canada is 50% higher than the US and not what was originally being advocated. I posted the article later as I had received several PM's about the reference to Canada vs. US and felt that others might like a brief overview...NOT as a support of any figures that I quoted. Sorry for the misunderstanding the posting was for others just as an overview...I should have been clearer that it was just incase anyone was interested in reading about it. This was never meant as a gun debate but a simple correction of mis-information.
For those really interested (but you have to dig through it) the 2 best places to look for actual firearm data is the US justice department
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm
and the Center for Disease Control (which tracks firearm related incidents as well)

Re: Geees its only cable
:hijackd: LOL
One more point and then Ill go away! :sabduel:
This survey was done (I believe) in 2001 but it shows the stats of 1998.
http://www.guncontrol.ca/Content/Cda-US.htm
I wont disagree and say that Canada's crime rate is not on the rise because it is... People in toronto are getting shot at like crazy these days, But you made a comment "lord jackel" saying that Canada had banned hand-guns like 10 years ago...
Hand Guns have needed to be licensed and registered since the 1930's.
I guess they haven't really been banned... but basically I guess...
Anyway I'll shut up now! bro!!!

Actually I commented on the data being almost 10 years old and said that a lot has changed in that time...including Canada's Gun Ban. I should clarify my comment on "gun ban" you are correct they have been licensed since the 30's but I believe it has been in the last few years that these "licenses" have become almost impossible to get...is that not true? By making the license nearly impossible to get they have effectively banned handguns.
Anywoo...guns are as touchy as abortion is. Everyone has an opinion and are entitled to it. At least both countries have Freedom of Speech so we are all good to go
Now send me one of thost Kevlar lined cherry pickers. :D
