AHHHHH!!! bad shed
So the tub has been spot on humidity and temps wise for the youngins shed. She went ahead and shed her head and eyecaps without a problem.
I left her for a while. Then noticed right behind her neck all her skin has remained. So I figured I'd give her a little soak. Soaked for an hour. Tok her out and nothing!! Didn't help one bit.
She's been trying all day to get the skin off to no avail. So need less to say I'm frustrated and concerned. I'm gonna give her till tomorrow after work to get it all off. Then try to soak again.
She's just been trying all day to get it going. The head shed off perfect like I said. Just can't get the rest going.
Temps 82.6 cool. 92 to 93.4 hot. 70% humidity.
Anything I should do until tomorrow? Thanks for the help. Just needed to rant a little too. Everything spot on and still looking like a bad shed. Tsk tsk tsk

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
How long have you had her? It's possible that the bad shed was a result of previous environmental issues. Sometimes they just have bed sheds as well.
A bad shed really isn't anything to stress about, so don't worry. You can go ahead and soak again tonight and use a cloth to help wipe off the old shed. Hopefully your next shed will be perfect. You can always try a humid hide as an additional aid.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
I've had her almost 2 months. This is her first shed with me so maybe her previous environment was an issue.
I checked on her this morning and she was maybe a third of the way shed. I'm gonna soak again when I get home. Why would soaking her last night not soften it up enough?
It softened up the shed already peeling off. But did nothing for the shed still attached.
Hopefully she will be far enough along today after work that a soaking will do her right.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Use a wet washcloth after you soak. My pastel had a horrendous shed last month and it worked like a charm. There's a sticky on how to do it.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
I would just take a pillow case flip in inside out and soak it with hot water put her in the pillow case and put the pillow case in the enclosure for a few hours, she should be able to rub the remaining shed off on her own. Good luck.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
I did the washcloth move to no avail. The water was just right depth wise. I'm thinking the pillow case trick might get the rest of her body.
God she's gotta hate me right now. Haha

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Nah, no hating involved. Just think what a relief it will be to get all that stuck shed off.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Ok well the second soak was much nicer. Got about 90% of the remaining shed off.
She's still got some lingering skin under the neck. And a little spot past that. It just wouldn't come off.
Thoroughly disinfected the whole tub while she soaked. I will probably try 1 more time tomorrow after work.
If I can get a little bit more off ill be happy. If not then it'll have to wait.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Sounds good. Congrats on getting the majority of the retained shed off. Hopefully the next shed will go smoother. ;)

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Thanks. I went ahead and brought the humidity back down to normal level. 56% right now.
Ill try 1 more time tomorrow to get it off. How many time is it ok to soak to try and get it off?

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
You should be able to get it all off with the next soak, if not I'd try one more time before leaving it for the next shed cycle. Just make sure none of the remaining shed completely encircles the body, and that the tip of the tail has shed.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
What works for me is the wash cloth. The pillowcase idea is interesting. I soak my BP about an hour, then while in the water just pet/rub with the washcloth in the direction he would to get the skin off. Usually works, but on stubborn area, even on eyes, my vet said to rub mineral oil. Just like skin lotion for us! Softens the skin and then soak and rub it all off. Good luck.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
On my way home now. So mineral oil. Rub some on then an hour soak? Soak and then rub some on? Let her soak in water with a dash of mineral oil in it?
-
Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
No, no mineral oil. That will just cause her to go into another shed and possibly shed individual scales EVERYWHERE. Big mess..
Just get a small lidded(secure lid) tub, fill with 1/2" of lukewarm water, place snake in, put lid on, place whole thing back in her enclosure on the warm side. Leave her alone for an hour and the shed should just slide right off. It acts as a snakey sauna and rehydrates the stuck shed. You only need to do this once per day, but unless the shed is stuck on her head/eyecaps, or is encircling her body/tail, then you don't need to worry about soaking her. It will come off with the next shed.

Re: AHHHHH!!! bad shed
Yeah she's had 2 soaks so far. I'm gonna try 1 more time tonight. Ok so no mineral oil. That does sound like a mess!!!
If it doesn't come off tonight after a third soak then it'll stay until the next shed.
