Hiding question?
I just got my bp about two weeks ago and it seems to never leave the same spot of the cage, it also is always balled up like it is afraid to move around. I have all the right night and day time temps, the right humidity and plenty of hides but it just does not move from behind the plant. Is this normal for a new juvenile bp?Thanks.

Re: Hiding question?
I'm in a similar situation w/ a BP that's is less that 1 year old. He made his attempts at escaping at first, but he hasn't moved from under his hide in 3 days. I don't know if it's normal, just thought I'd share.

Re: Hiding question?
What size is the Enclosure? it may be too big for him

Re: Hiding question?
have you tried feeding him in his 2 weeks of being with you?
also, what size do you have the cage as above me asked- and where do you keep his cage? is a place of high or low activity?

Re: Hiding question?
Based on the limited information you provided it doesnt sound like anything unusual to me... BPs should be sleeping and in their hide pretty much all day and only coming out at night. If your snake has eaten and just chills alot... well thats BPs for ya :) sleep all day n play all night... If it hasnt eaten and your having problems then we need a lil more info to help ya out.

Re: Hiding question?
I agree that we need a little more info to really help you out. It is normal for a BP to be hiding all day. I hardly ever see mine during the day time, only when she pokes her nose out of one of her hides, or if I am handling her. She usually comes out real late at night, once the kids have gone to bed and the house is dark and quiet.

Re: Hiding question?
Well its in a very low traffic area and it is a ten gallon long enclosure, but it was just worrying me because its not that he hides a lot its that he never comes out at night or day time it seems like he is always under the same spot constantly.

Re: Hiding question?
Is it the hot end?
and has he been fed in the last 48 hrs?

Re: Hiding question?
Yes its on the hot end and no he hasnt be fed in the last 48 hours.

Re: Hiding question?
it sounds like your temps are too could what are they currently at ? cool and hot?
-
Re: Hiding question?
90.8 warm side and 82.3 cool side with 40% humidity
-
Re: Hiding question?
The temps are ok, but the humidity should be at least 50% and 60-70% when shedding, but apart from that everything seems fine nothing much to worry about, just try and raise the humidity a little and he should be fine
Dont worry it doesnt seem like anthing major :D

Re: Hiding question?
I would up the humidity, it should be between 50 - 60% most the time and above 60% just before and during shed. Do you have two identical hides? One for hot and one for warm ends? This is important so that they don't have to choose between security and thermoregulation. Do you have any pics of the setup that you could post maybe?

Re: Hiding question?
Thanks for the help, i will def raise the humidity and yes i have 2 identical hides at either side. sorry my camera is at my old tattoo parlor and i am trying to get it back but ill post some photos as soon as i get it.

Re: Hiding question?
maybe he's just a hermit.
i would just keep handling him as usual and make sure he gets fed appropriately.
