    new rack im making =)
So I made the sketch today on google sketchup and here are they are =)

They will be made out of melamine and there will be a door made out of plexiglass, my mom and dad insist that I have one in case he ever gets out.

that's pretty awesome. not a bad idea either. it would look kinda nice, as a kinda show case piece. dont forget ventilation holes.

what I can add/change is the door. I would try a sliding rail with glass/acrylic on each. So it will slide to the left or right, depending on where your going to put it. Also so you wont disturb the other tubs/reptile/temp/humidty.

Does that make sense? Ventalation holes would be nice on it too.....

What I'm going to do is make it shelves 1 inch away from the door, and magnetic stoppers so the door will not hit the tubs, I will be putting ventilation holes throughout the whole rack/display case. I will post pics of it when its done, maybe I will make a tutorial and maybe one of the mods can make it a sticky? who knows, I have a good feeling about this. Also I don't see the point in making it a sliding door because i will have to pull the tubs out and they won't fit through. But thank you everyone for your advice and compliments I will DEFINITELY post some pics as soon as I get started(This weekend?)

Oh and I also have a lock from my old tank, so I figure I'll put it on there so if my dad is drunk and wants to show off his son's snake to his buddies, he can't get in =) Or even if there are little kids around while I'm at work, because I know if I don't have a door and lock someone will leave a crack open where he can get out.. Just making some safety precautions!

looks good. what size tubs are you going to be using? i was just curious because the tub size could change everything. a sterilite 41 qt tub can house the largest female ball python. a 32 qt can work for sub adults and adult males. you'll have to keep younger balls in 12-15 qt tubs, and move them up in sizes, so if you have an adult now then you'll have to get an adult/sub adult to fill the other tubs.

just want to throw somethings out there.

That is very nice. I like the lock idea to keep not so responsible people out and the snake in.

He's about 3-4 months old, I need to find tubs that have the same height, any suggestions? Right now I have a 30 qt rubbermaid.

    haha I'm so excited =)
Do you think my BP would be okay in a 30qt tub even if I fill it up for him?

personally i'm partial to an opening door compared to a sliding. jbc if you keep two of these next to each other, and slide the door, wouldn't it bump into the other?

I agree, I've never seen a rack like this before so I'm stoked to make it, I am running low on money but my grandpa loves the snake, so he's helping me (THANK GOD) so he's helping me with the materials thermostat and flexwatt (which should be here form bean farm) I'm just wondering though how I will keep the tub off of the shelve by 1/4 inch so i wont ruin the flexwatt...

    Hi,

Not sure on the space - maybe hanging it by the lip of the tub or L shaped spacers on the inside bottom that it can run along?

Check out the rack building threads for better ideas though.
