adult olive pics
just thought I'd post pics of my adult female olive. she's about 4 1/2 years old now and growing nicely. As some of you may have seen, I was trying to find some breeders that I might be able to get a male from, but the more I think about it, I'm not sure I want to wait as long as it would take to raise a male up...
so I was thinking, the best thing to me would be if I could find someone that breeds them that would be interested in taking her for a breeding loan... anyone??

Re: adult olive pics
thank you, I had also heard that it was very easy for them to become overweight, and I was curious to see what you all thought about her weight... too much??
thanks...
-
Re: adult olive pics
i don't know anything about olives but i think her weight looks good! she's gorgeous! and i love that last pic!
-
Re: adult olive pics
I know nothing about them... But she certainly doesn't appear overweight, she looks perfect! The color is amazing, and her head is just gorgeous.
-
Re: adult olive pics
Beautiful girl! I think as long as you can feel her muscles under her skin and not a thick layer of fat, she'd in good shape.
-
Re: adult olive pics
she's stunning, I'm currently kicking myself for not getting an olive python I considered about a year ago. But I would say judging from the second pic she's not too fat. Can't tell well, but she seems pretty solid where your snake model is holding her underneath.

Re: adult olive pics
wow that snake is simply stunning, good luck on finding a mate
-
Re: adult olive pics
I've never seen an adult Olive before Blake....she's simply stunning! Thank you so much for sharing pictures of her. I hope you are able to find a suitable mate for her.
-
Re: adult olive pics
thank you, I would really recommend them to anyone who is interested and has an opportunity... i think she's my favorite snake of all... :sunny:
and i'm keeping my fingers crossed to find someone with a male!!

Re: adult olive pics
Blake,
She looks great and of perfect girth.
About a mate for her, let's talk next weekend.
-
Re: adult olive pics
Do they tend to be more aggressive, or more laid back? I'm heading in the direction of a giant, and am into burms and maybe a green annie, but your olive is like a gi-huge-ic version of my Stimson's, which I love. Maybe I'll consider an olive next instead. :)

she's pretty laid back, but she gets a lot of attention. I've heard they can be a little aggressive, but with mine, I would have never guessed... but they are pretty food aggressive, so watch out... :D
the best thing about them, IMO, is that they are large, but not GIGANTIC like the annies, burms, and retics... but believe me, holding her is enjoyable... she feels big and loves to be held...
and even though she doesn't have any pattern, I think she gets more compliments than any other snake I own when people come over...

would you say, prehaps one that is handled & mellowed like yours would need two people to work with? like a larger snake, or could one person handle an olive well?
-
Re: adult olive pics
Drop dead gorgeous snake, Blake!! Definitely one of my "someday" snakes!!

well, I generally deal with her alone, but I'm used to handling the retics and such on a daily basis... so really, it wouldn't be impossible, but it's not a bad idea to have someone around just in case...
but I do have to admit, about 18 months ago, I screwed up and the olive actually chased me down (from about 6 ft away) and got me by the hand, constricted my hand and arm, etc... I certainly couldn't have gotten her off me if I was alone... I've learned from that experience, and she hasn't even tried to get me since then... and just so you know, she was about 8 ft when that happened...
you just have to learn their body language. They move fast and have some nasty teeth, but the HUGE positive side of it is that they grow slowly, so you would have a lot of time raising a baby, which would mean lots of time to learn their behavior and get the snake used to being handled and used to you, etc...
overall, I think they are a WONDERFUL snake... come highly recommended from me... :sunny:

Re: adult olive pics
Wow; she is a ridiculously beautiful snake! From my knowledge of smaller boids, she does not look to be overweight, but that is just my opinion and I am not really sure.
How are their temperaments overall?
-
Re: adult olive pics
I would have to agree with alot of these people in saying...
WOW!!!
That is a beautiful snake!!!
-
Re: adult olive pics
Wow, what a beautiful snanke. I'd have to say she has a very elegant look to her. Very striking.

Thanks!! I'm thrilled everyone likes her because I wish more people were interested in olives... there certainly needs to be more of them around...
I think we were talking about it a little in some of the previous replies, but mine is really friendly. I've heard that they can be pretty snappy, but she is great...

Re: adult olive pics
you're saying they DON'T get as big as burms and retics??? Hmmm :hmm:
Think I'll start looking for a baby (maybe sub-adult) olive. :)

I love that snake. I'm very jealous, and an olive is the first thing I'm going to buy when I upgrade from my condo. Beautiful snake.

Re: adult olive pics
When I saw the close-up of her head, the first thought was "gorgeous eyes". The next immediate thought was that she looks like just a gi-huge-ic version of Felix, my Stimson's. :D :D
-
Re: adult olive pics
She is stunning, her eyes remind me of my Macklotts. If Olives are anything like Macklotts, they are def. on my want list. Is she really iridescent in the sun?
-
Re: adult olive pics
yeah, she almost looks like she has a film on her when she's outside... :)
-
Re: adult olive pics
I didn't realize I had missed this post...holy tamales, she's gorgeous!!!
Please, seriously, anytime you are bored, get her out, take pictures and post them...I don't think ANY of us will ever tire of seeing pictures of your beautiful olive. :gj:

Re: adult olive pics
That is one stunning snake. Do they reach that size generally, or get any bigger? I know that it is hard to generalize, but how are they temperament-wise generally?
-
Re: adult olive pics
thanks, mine is very friendly, probably more so than any of my other snakes, but at the same time, she's really food aggressive, so you have to be careful about that... overall she's my favorite snake that I have to interact with...
From what I've found, this subspecies ranges from 8-12 ft, and then the barroni olives get larger, up to 14-15 ft I think? She's between 9-10' now, and she's only 5 years old and they grow pretty slowly, so she's still growing, but I'm not expecting a whole lot more... they don't hit sexual maturity until 4-6 years...

Re: adult olive pics
Is this the same olive you ahve for sale on kingsnake?
-
Re: adult olive pics
sure is, I really want to try to get her to someone that's going to try to breed her... as much as I love her, I would love even more for someone to increase the number of these great snakes available... and I don't have the time or resources to invest further into an olive project...
-
Re: adult olive pics
Beautiful snake! She's absolutely gorgeous. :snake: Might have to put one of those on my wishlist.

There is a guy with a 9' male olive if I am not mistaken on kingsnake too. You can probably try dropping him an email.
If I had the money I'd take her without a doubt. If you still have her in the summer I may drop you a line as well.:)
-
Re: adult olive pics
Well I might still have her, I'm not in a big rush to sell her, but I would like to see someone try to do something with her...
-
Re: adult olive pics
Where would you go to get an olive python? I've never seen them at the reptile shows I go to (only been to three, two being local) and I don't see many breeders online.

Re: adult olive pics
That is one of the most beautiful snakes that I've ever seen! I never knew that they existed until today. That is definately something I'll have to throw on my wishlist.
-
Re: adult olive pics
I think olive pythons are some of the most beautiful snakes there are. Congratulations, she is absolutely gorgeous.
-
Re: adult olive pics
beautiful!
how much did you pay for that beauty, if you don't mind me asking?
-
Re: adult olive pics
Wow; I can't say it enough times. That is just a stunning snake! If I ever manage to get one i the future, please know that it is your fault, for posting such a cool one :D
-
Re: adult olive pics
Yes, she is a marvelous snake! When I saw this thread, I contacted Blake immediately and told him I had to have her. Everthing worked out and I bought her just before Christmas. I've been thrilled with her and I think everybody should go out and get one today! :)
- I happily paid $700 for her.

Re: adult olive pics
What a stunning animal. Too bad you are trying to part ways with her, but I understand what you are doing. A lot of these "other" animals are underestimated because of the big five (balls, burmese, boas, bloods and retics).
