    Calling all college students!!
I was wondering what sorts of majors other here are studying? Where you go to school?

I'm about to start my second year at McGill University in Montreal (not at the main campus though, the cool kids study at the environmental campus). My major is Applied Zoology, though I'm putting a focus on entomology.

So far I love love love it there, actually studying the things I love, in a school setting, it's a dream come true. And being around like minded people is amazing. When I'm there, I'm no longer the only crazy bug lady!

Was wondering if perhaps any of the snake lovers here are studying herpetology? My whole life has definitely been a toss-up between entomology and herpetology... but there arent really any good reptile programs in the schools near me, they're mostly out west from what I've heard... I have a feeling I'll stick with the bugs and spiders for study, and the reptiles as a hobby. :)

This semester is going to be insane... biochem, genetics, natural history of vertebrates, introduction to fungi, and evolution & systematics. Woohoo!

I'm studying Accounting... It goes in the family. On my dad's side I have 3 aunts that are certified public accountants and on my mother's side my aunt is also an accountant. Not a CPA though. This is my second year so my classes are still not challenging for me. I have English 2, Speech, Financial Accounting, and Psycology. 13 credits in total! ;-) Right now I'm going to MDC then I'm gonna transfer to either UM or Nova Southern University  Can't wait!

Going into my first year at University of North Florida at the end of the month! I'm going for physics and engineering, though I was disappointed that I have to do a prereq before I can get into any real physics classes. :( I was really looking forward to it, too!!! Anyways, my plan is either next year or the year after I want an apprenticeship with NASA if I can get it, and I'll see where I go from there. ^-^ Congrats and good luck everybody!

XDD actually...herpetology never occurred to me until my dad suggested it to me at dinner!! But I love physics too, so either way it's all good. Good luck with college everyone!!!

Something I learned in college... everything changes! Lol... I'm originally from Indiana but went to school to OSU. Took myself completely out of my comfort zone, and I was the only one in my graduating class to leave the state. In any case, I started out studying AeroEngineering. Two quarters in I was struggling pretty hard core... decided engineering wasn't for me and changed majors to English, focus in Creative writing, with a minor in Aviation Business.

I just graduated in December with my undergrad BA, but definitely planning on going back. Longterm plans are to get my PhD in English, Creative Writing and be a crazy English professor :rolleye2: LOL.

But I agree... I consider my college years the best years of my life. Every day was a learning experience. I met some of the most accepting, most wonderful people ever! I'm so glad I took the chance on going out of state for school... it's a decision I will never, ever regret!

    Oh yeah... GO BUCKS!

Wow.... Congrats! ;) I can't wait to finish already.. Don't get me wrong I love going to college but waking up at 5:30 am every other day then wake up at 6:30 the other days is too crazy for me. On the 6:30 days I wake up at 6 am thinking I'm late! Can't deal with that! :(

5 months shy of a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree, Multimedia. Although i've learned everything media related, including graphic design, video production, 3D modeling & animation, and web site design, I prefer web site development over anything and everything. Making things work on the WWW is pretty much what drives me to get up in the morning....call me crazy, but I call it a passion. geek? yes. Nerd? yes. Proud? yes.

I am about to start my second year at Valparaiso University in Indiana. I am majoring in mechanical engineering and math. So far I have 52 credits so I think I am well on my way to my majors. My classes for this fall are ME 253 (mechanical engineering), MATH 240 (statistics), MATH 234 (differential equations), GE 109 (mechanics-statics), and ECE 281 (electrical engineering). ME 253 and ECE 281 also have labs with them. That all adds up to 18 credits so keeping up with that and the 20 hours of swimming practice a week I am sure to be quite busy. Wish me luck!

Oh man, I hear you! Lol... the last two years were nuts! I was working two part time jobs almost 50 hours a week---trying to pay rent and keep me and all the scale-kids fed---plus going to class full time... ugh! And trying to have a life! But, really, I wouldn't change a minute of it. It was such an awesome learning experience.

    Thanks for the congrats!

Cool stuff :) I hear a lot about people switching majors around... so far I like what I'm doing but who knows if things will change.

It's also kind of crazy being out of the country... I live in NY, but go to college in Quebec... lower drinking age... more tolerant of, uh, certain things... though that's not why I'm there (they're just perks, haha), I'm there because the campus is tiny and I get to hang out at the insect museum and labs with my profs :D

Hehehe... go be that crazy English Proff, there aren't enough of them anymore! :D

I am a junior this year at Metro State Denver studying some Bio. I just started serious work on my major last semester (previous college time was devoted to the core classes) so classes aren't that hellish yet, but I do have two labs this semester: Bio 2 and Principles of Chem. I'm going for the lighter Chem BA instead of the BS cause I'm AWFUL at math-type things. Besides, a general degree in Bio is all I really need for what I want: working to get some good reputation to apply for a gov grant to run a refuge for exotic and abandoned animals. My first step will be either zookeeper or park ranger.

So far college has been kinda fun, if you can ignore the times of much hair pulling madness. :) I still have a GPA around 3.7, and I love that people in college are mostly mature! With the obvious exception of those right out of HS who just came to party, and they are of little consequence. :) Being in college not only pays the bills (we live completely on FinAid), it's giving me more self confidence and worth.

Someday, if I get some major grant or scholarship, I may get a more focused degree in wildlife management or zoology, but for now I'm just after what I need to go on.

Ha the lower drinking age would be nice. Not cause I wanna go get drunk all the time, just so it would be OK to have a drink every once in a while. After living in Oklahoma for 18 years where if you get caught they usually just call your parents, being in Valparaiso is a huge change. One of my friends was coming back from the frat houses. He had a designated driver and they got pulled over because his windows were fogged and they breathalized the people in the car and my friend went to jail for having a blood alcohol level of .02. This guy is 21. Had he been one street over which would have put him off campus, he could have had 4 times the amount and been driving and been legal. Sometimes I think a campus of 3000 people doesn't need its own police department.

Senior at Eastern Michigan University majoring in toxicology/biochemistry and minoring in criminology. i had a bunch of crim credits from Tiffin University in Ohio, i went there to play soccer and after a year realized a school with 1,500 people wasn't the kind of school i wanted to go to. i was majoring in forensic psychology cause it sounded cool, and they didn't have any science majors there.

I'm finishing my third year of Pharmacy school at Northeastern University in Boston Ma. Classes are awesome, i just love getting up every day and going to them! Its actually absurdly hard and time consuming. I just finished summer classes so im looking forward to a few months of working on co-op (clinical/intern type deal), hence the fact i probably don't make much sence right now. I had a little of a post finals party tonight. Anyways, pharmacy school is really hard and I hope I eventually graduate and make lots of money so i can buy more bps.

Canadian, so it's University for me... To be honest I just much prefer working and getting stuff done than going through school.

finishing off my basic classes at Central Alabama Community College, and then depending going to Auburn University in the spring or fall of '08. Wouldn't mind going in the spring ^^.

I plan on getting a major in Philosophy and then going on and getting a phd. i would love nothing more than to teach philosophy.

i originally wanted to do english but ah... my cacc philosophy teacher let me know real quick that was a terrible idea and of course i fell in love with philosophy (not that i hadn't considered it before) by the end of the course.

This will be my last year in Radiology school. It was been ridiculously hard so far, which I never imagined before I went into it. Seriously, how hard could it be to snap a couple of pictures of your forearm??
OKay, so that parts not too hard (I looooove clinical) but the theory is like whoa. Hurts the brain.

I'm a sophmore at Texas A&M University, and for the second year in a row, a fish in the Corps. Long story short I made an enemy in my outfit last year and he became the new commanding officer and I got ousted despite the wishes of my fellow buddies.* The bureaucracy says the only way to over-turn his decision is for me to do another semester in hell as a fish. Which I will gladly do to remain with my buddies, they mean that much to me. Glutton for punishment maybe?

But yea, as far as hours are concerned I'm a junior biomedical science major and on my way to become a large animal vet, and hoping to specialize in equine sports medicine.

btw, I leave bright and early tomorrow morning so y'all probably won't see me for atleast a week as freshman orientation week takes up every minute of the day!

I'm starting my 2nd year at OSU (Oklahoma state) and I'm about to declair my major as Zoology, and I'm hoping that they will have a specalized field for herpetology here. Either way, I'm going to get my Bachelors in Zoology, then I'm going to apply to the Vet school here to become a herp vet ^_^

wow, I am so psyched to see people studying engineering!

the job market for engineers is starting to get really great and should continue as the aging workforce retires and fewer young engineers are coming up.
that translates into more opportunities and better pay than ever :)

I'm starting my second semester in grad school studying biochemistry. My thesis project is more molecular oriented (doing localization studies using GFP tagging), but my degree will be in biochemistry.

Already have a BS in biochemistry with minor in biology from University of North Texas.

Next fall I'll be starting my PhD hopefully either at UC Santa Barbara or CU Boulder.
