I need some love today....

Today was my baby's first day of kindergarten, and somehow my son is in 2nd grade (but I can't figure out how that happened).

Does this look like a girl who's ready to take on the world or what? It does make it a bit easier to let her go, since she marched herself right in. She was so excited. My son.... not so much. He's much more shy, and it'll take him a bit longer to settle into the new school....

My youngest starts kindergarten this month as well. And my middle child has his first day of middle school....and my oldest will have her first day of high school. :O Like you, I'm utterly mystified at how all this came about!

Plan something nice for yourself this week. A manicure and pedicure at a nice spa or something! Indulge a bit in totally caring for Christie, which is such a rare thing we moms need to remember to do once in a while. :hug:

the first day of Kindergarten is always hard.

I still...get choked up when my kids go off for their first day.

and my oldest two are in H.S. and Cait will be in 4th grade!

I just love to have them home with me.

It's okay... we're supposed to feel this way on the first day of seperation from our children. I still can't believe that I have a child that is going into the 5th grade. :eek: So cry your tears, sulk for a bit, but then hold your head up high with pride.. if she is confident to go without looking back, your doing a good job in helping her become a strong confident women prepared for everything that life can throw her way.

I didn't realize our babies are starting kindergarten together ... so to speak. I know you'll understand why I'm sitting at this keyboard staring and tearing up.

I have my mom and two sisters visiting currently, and my other sister and her kids be will be here tomorrow. So I'll be a bit swamped by all the family, but I've got Daytona to look forward to... :rolleyes:

I feel so silly just being at such a loss. UGH! :(

My daughter is such a little sweetheart, MeMe. We start early in the south... I don't know why but we do. Thank you for commiserating with me. It makes me feel a bit better to know that I'm not alone feeling this way.

I think you guys are right. I think I may go relax and do some yoga. I think that will help me relax a bit. Otherwise I'm just going to sit here and stare at the computer screen.

Awwww, Christie! :hug:! We had some schools in metro Atlanta that started on July 30th, some started this past Monday, and the rest start next Monday.

If you all start so early when do you typically get out for summer vaca?

I like that we don't start till after Labor Day.

This is the latest our schools start this year, normaly we start on the 11, but this year we start on the 27th. My mom is a kindergarten teacher, and respect for the parents, is given fully! She will learn so much. I am starting my first year of high school!!:eek: And my little brother is starting JH, where 2 years apart, he is lucky, he had a brother go through what he is going to go through, so he knows whats coming. But I don't!! I am the oldest of 2 children. Good luck to you, and your children!

I agree with the others, I spent Marc's first school week pampering myself. I did get a pedi, and some Godiva strawberries. And I went grocery shopping ALL ALONE. That's a treat in itself! lol

Your the youngest grandpa I know! My parents are young for having a 14 and 12 year olds. and 38 and 39. compaired to the kid I know whos parents are a few years younger than my grand parents.

They grow up so fast! The closest I can come to empathizing with you Christie, is sending my scale kids off into the world, which is somewhat short of what you are going through :oops: .....but big hugs :hug: I hope that she has a great first day, and that you have a nice relaxing one! :sunny:

Aww, Christie! :hug: !!! I'm sorry you're feelin' blue. I can't even imagine how it must feel. I sometimes look at my siblings or cousins and wonder how it is they got so much older...then I remember that I'm getting older...and it's weird.

I couldn't imagine having to be a parent and deal with that! I hope you have a better day, hon. They'll be home soon :)

I think I just discovered the *real* reason why I homeschool.... because I'd bawl like a baby taking my kids to class for the first time and I'd probably have to be physically removed from the class room. Plus, my kids would probably never talk to me again for embarrassing them by sobbing and trying to fit my butt into one of those little desks. :O

Ohhh man, I feel for ya girl! I can't hardly even handle my kids going to their friends houses for weekend sleep overs... I start pacing and most of their friends live right on our street.

I think we get out of school at the end of May, and apparently they added 5 days to the school year recently. :rolleyes: We got out a bit earlier in TN.

Thank you all for the kind words. I needed them more than you know. I never did get to the yoga, and settled for a nap instead. :relax: (which I needed since I couldn't fall back asleep after 4:30am)

My kids were very excited when they came home. My daughter apparently knows everything now, but can't tell me because it's a secret. She loved that they painted in class. She just radiated joy when I picked her up from school. They have a staggered schedule, and rotate 6 kindergarteners in each day - so she doesn't go back until Tuesday... which is nice. It allows the kids more personalized attention getting used to the new routines. I really like it, plus I get her back for a couple more days! :D

My son had a great day as well. He apparently had a blast, and was completely stoked about the tire swings. :rolleyes: It's such a relief to see that he didn't feel completely out of the loop! *whew* I love his teacher as well, so I see only promising things in his future!

Awww sorry I missed your thread hon. We were out all day tromping around at the Zoo. I know how you feel hon, it about broke my heart to send Mikey off to his first day of kindergarten last year. I remember it hit me hard that my last "baby" was off to school and I'd never be doing this again (after starting his three older sibs). All day I kept turning around listening for him and feeling that little heart stop thing until I remembered he was safe at school.

It seems like only yesterday I was watching Katelyn go off to school for the first time and she's 20 this coming October. Gawd but the time goes way too fast doesn't it!

I'm sure you're kids will have a blast though and love the experience of school and have tons to tell you every day. All that cool artwork for the fridge is the best isn't it! Big hugs hon, you'll get used to this change and remember...do something every day just for you...even if it's only a nice quiet shower with no one bashing at the bathroom door screaming "I gots to pee YOU KNOW!" :)

All the support here has definitely helped to alleviate some of my sadness. This has just been SOOO much harder than I thought it would be. I knew she was ready and excited, but it's just so hard to let go. It's just an overwhelming urge to want to grab the kids and keep everything in the moment, even though I love and am so proud of the wonderful little people they are turning in to.

I'm planning on being involved in both classrooms, and anywhere else I can insinuate myself. Dang, they just grow up to fast!!! :(
