3 bad eggs. warning: graphic images (DUW)

Most of you already know that I am incubating a clutch of 7 eggs from Lucille.

Well out of the 7 eggs I have 4 remaining.

3 of them started to mould about 2 weeks ago so I was going to leave them in there but I decided today to go ahead and take them out and cut them open.

I took pics to share with you all.

Please remember that these pics were take for educational purposes only. I am very upset that I lost these eggs and don't need any unecessary comments or neg rep points.

im sorry for the loss Meme, its odd to see them with out the "shell" around them. they still contain red veins though? is the mass inside solid?

Aw that really sucks. How does that happen? Did the incubator go crazy at first?

They seemed like they had a chance, but then again I don't know. Hopefully someone with experience of many years know how bad eggs like this could have happened?

inside it wasn't hard like rock.

It was hardened more like a hardboiled egg.

I had 2 power outages in my area due to storms and on the second one my incubator dropped into the 70's so that may have caused it.

but I really don't know.

That is really sad, I feel for you for your loss. I would definitely be not okay for a while if that happens to my snakes eggs. (almost said my eggs, and that ain't happenin')

Kinda seems like by cuttin' the molded eggs your daaanged if you do, daaaanged if you don't.

Sorry for your loss. It is always great to see someone use their loss for the educational benefit of others, and also to do a little bit of learning themselves. I'm sure the remaining eggs will be fine, and that this will be a valuable learning experience for future incubating. Keep your chin up, as it happens to everybody once in awhile.

Meme so sorry :( Not all eggs were meant to hatch. I have a buch of beardie eggs and a couple were going bad so I took them out for the benefit of the others. It's just the way it goes. Best of luck with the others, It makes them just that much more special :sunny:

Aw, I am sorry about that. They look exactly like mine that held out for awhile last year before going bad.. but my last one took a bit longer and was a bit more formed. The second-last one looked identical to yours.
I know how it feels to have them go bad; sorry you have to experience it. Mine was also an incubator incident, but mine was a Hova and had went up in temperature.

Meme you've got some balls to have opened them...I am cool with gore, but that is just sad.

no not alot. It has been a pretty dry summer here so when we do get rain it breaks limbs and sometimes uproots trees and causes them to fall on power lines and junk.

yea I didn't even know what to expect.

so it was a huge learning experience for me.

I'm sorry bout losing those eggs. I hope the other 4 will be just fine. It really did take some nerve to cut those open -- it really is kind of interesting to see what they look like.

I was seriously shaking the whole time.

when I opened the second one I saw veins and about fainted! I screamed and dropped it on the counter.

then after a few minutes I got it together and looked in to find the same as the first one.

Thinking back and looking at the pics. I really can not believe I even did it.

Sorry for your loss; but thank you for posting the pics. Interesting to see them at this stage of development. I recently cut open an egg that did not hatch and found a dead and severely deformed cornsnake inside; I can understand how you must feel.

I am really glad you posted those pictures.

It's so rare that we actually get to catch a glimpse of the process of a snake growing in an egg. It's a curiousity that we all have, and to see pictures is an amazing and awesome thing.

It is so unfortunate that the eggs have to die in order for this to happen, but what you did, and the "icky-ness" you had to go through opening them up, is an invaluable lesson for us all.

If anyone else has eggs that might die farther along and have the stomach to do the same thing, please do. We might be able to piece together a visual progression of ball pythons while in the egg.

So how far along do you think mine were?

they are much smaller.

it was only 19 days into incubation the second time I had a power outtage and a few days later is wen I found them molding.

From other eggs that I have cut open in the past, I would say that yours were around 15-20 days old. I would really have to see their size in person, but they appear similar, maybe slightly larger, than some that I have lost at 10 days.

yea...

the first one was the biggest and it was no more than 2 inches long.

the others were just a bit smaller.
