I've been using "Quat plus" from Big Apple Herp for over a decade. Never a problem and its good for all animals. Its about $14.99 for a 32 oz spray bottle. No need to rinse afterwards. Just spray and wipe it down.

I guess I'm just really old school LOL. 10% bleach solution, fill and let sit a minimum of 20 minutes, followed by a good hard scrub, followed by multiple clean water rinses and a wipe out with a white paper towel...rats or snakes...their homes all get the same routine.

I use Chlorohexadine for daily cleaning work and then do the full monty bleach treatment once a month or if they really soiled their tank.

I figure if the CDC says 10% bleach will kill most human "nasties", then it's good enough for the beasts. As long as it's very well rinsed, it seems to be quite safe.

I would soak my rat's cages in the shower with it full blast hot for 30 mins, scrub for 5 mins with human antibacterial soap and a brush then rinse the suds off quick and back in the rats went... (well, dried off with paper towel as well)

I always figured that if the CMA recommended that people just used proper hand washing techniques they wouldn't need 'disinfectants' and 'antibacterial' hand sanitizers that it would be good enough for the rats...

I got one of them that was prone to tumors from the day I took her in so I was always worried about using any chemicals in her tub.... The half hour shower always did the cleaning part for me anyway!

I used a bleach solution for the snake's enclosure so far, but it may also get the 30 min blast of steaming water in the future.

I used bleach for a while but the smell always give my wife a headache so I switched to F10 and love it. Reptile basics carries it and I know it seem a litttle spend but it lasts forever when diluted to the proper specs :)

I'm an oddball....I use 50-50 original brown Listerene and water. Kills germs, cleans well, and smells good!!! Don't use any other color, it all has sugar in it and dries sticky, has to be the original brown. And generic works just as good as name brand.

Most of the mentioned work fine there are some general guidelines to follow. Nothing safe sill work of dirty surfaces so the first step is clean them well with soap/detergent. dilution and contact time, most things take at least 5 min to work and some as long as 30min to work. The surface must be saturated and kept that way during the contact time. Some things need to be washed some don't. Follow the instructions if you are not you have no idea if it works.

Listerene being a chemical geek and as it has come up every now and again. I check with them they do NOT suggest it to work on hard surfaces and diluted it doesn't work at all, from a tech at J&J. It also has a limited range it kills germs that cause bad breath not a wide spread bacterial, fungal and viral like many others. The other part is it contains thymol, a variation on Phenol. (...nol chemicals usually do) Phenol (naturally found in cedar) is very toxic for reptiles even in small amounts. I would suggest that straight alcohol or 10% bleach to be more effective and about the same. F10, CHG, CHD, peroxide to be safer and easier.
