codom mutation?
I was inquiring about a het ivory for sale. I was told that it was actually a codom mutaion. Can anyone explain to me the diffenence?
Thanks

Re: codom mutation?
It is...another name for a Het Ivory is a Yellow Belly (visual morph).
Being Co-Dom means that a Het Ivory bred to a normal will produce 50% Het Ivory and 50% Normals.
A Het Ivory bred to a Het Ivory will produce an Ivory (along with Het Ivory's and normals)
Hope this helps. :)

Yes, but it doesn't necessarily mean the belly is yellow they get their name from how high up the sides (of the belly) the yellow goes.
...also not all Yellow Belly's have been proven to actually produce an Ivory - so if that is your end goal make sure you buy a pair from a proven line.

Re: codom mutation?
It's sort of a hard thing to describe. Here's a link that talks about how to visually tell a YellowBelly. They tend to get more intense and different from normals as they age and shed.

Here's some shots of our YB 06 male, Riordan. He's getting more gorgeous every month. Paired with a normal he should produce YB offspring and normal offspring. Paired with another YB, he should produce Ivories at some point. Remember breeding is never a guaranteed thing and percentages are just that.
Here's some pics of Riordan at various ages....
Riordan not quite sure what to do with his first fuzzy rat.....

Re: codom mutation?
Thanks, that is all very helpful. I've been seeing the term yellow belly alot on this forum and I wasn't sure what it was. I've been breeding my normal pr of bps for 10 yrs now and haven't gotten into morphs until now. !0 yrs ago they were way out of my price range. Now they have so many morphs and most are resonably priced, I'm venturing into them. I'm glad I stumbled onto this site. I'm not sure why it took me so long to join a forum. It has been very interesting to see what other people are doing with their bps.
Does anyone want to take a crack at explaining the difference in recessive,co-dominent and dominent genes when it comes to breeding and offspring?

Re: codom mutation?
Hey Frankie, Do they still have the Toledo herp society? I was a member for a year. I'ts been about 5 yrs ago though. Beautiful snake by the way. :)

Re: codom mutation?
Thanks Jason, we really love this little guy. Hopefully he'll be fathering a few clutches for us this coming breeding season.
Yep there's still a herp group here in Toledo. We're hoping to make the time to join and go to some meetings this fall. I believe this is the current contact info:
Toledo Herpetological Society, P.O. Box 2781, Toledo, OH 43606, (419)475-0521
Hope to see you there!
Do you go to the Taylor, MI snake show? It's not very far from you and a lot of fun. We haven't had a chance to go lately but with fall coming life might be quiet enough for us to get to some shows there.

Re: codom mutation?
Ooops forgot to give you the morph/genetics links I have saved - plus some on the various morphs available. Start with the Markus Jayne one, it's the best one for a starter...then move up and oneward to the NERD one which is the best (grab a pencil and some paper, you are about the learn more about the punnet square than you think possible LOL).
Have fun!

Re: codom mutation?
Last post I swear...lol. When it comes to buying a YB (Het Ivory) always go with a very reputable breeder and a snake that comes from a proven Ivory line. :)

Yes we will be going this year. It's on the 11th of August if I remember correctly. I haven't been there in a couple years myself. The last time we went my daughter (she was 5 yrs old) got to hold a baby aligator. She still talks about it. Thanks a bunch for the info. The YB page you attached was very helpful. Its much easier to get the meaning if you have pics to go with it.

How about "The Ballroom" advertising at the bottom of this forums home page?
Thanks for the links, I have to go get some kleenex, I think I'm going to get a nose bleed (too much to digest). :)

Re: codom mutation?
LOL do NOT try to digest all those threads in one day....you'll get a brain pain! Just tuck them away and have fun learning. I still read over them myself all the time or just enjoy viewing all the possibilities in bp breeding.
As far as reputable breeders, we have a number as members and advertisers here. This site is really good in making sure that anyone that advertises here has an impeccable rep. You can always check out any breeder as well by searching on the BOI (free membership).
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...play.php?&f=13
We also have an Inquiries section here you can look up and also post threads asking about people's experiences with certain breeders.
When you go to Taylor check out Casey and Darla Hulse (Nature's Spirit)...very nice folks and always willing to take time with people. Also Matt at Pangea if you are into geckos. Watch some of the vendors there, some aren't the greatest but there are a lot of good people too.
