Rat Breeders - Where are you
After seeing several posting from people looking for / or just finding rat breeders I thought it would be a great idea if we create a thread about Rat Breeders. As we all know most true rat breeders won't have anything to do with people that have snakes...but others will.
So if you breed rats or know those who do please post the info here so we have a record of it for everyone.
Hope everyone thinks this is as good an idea as I did

Re: Rat Breeders - Where are you
I breed rats & african soft furs. I am located in Charlotte Mi (just outside of Lansing).
They are raised on aspen & fed a Harland Teklad 2018 diet.
I have many diffrent colors of rats in both dumbos & normals. Though they are raised for feeders most are very friendly & I wouldn't hesitate having one as a pet. Lately I have had a few solid color rats come out with "silver" stripes & I am trying to breed it out currently, I have never seen anything like it.
I do have a few different colors of the african soft furs as well. I also have bales of shredded aspen & the Teklad 2018 diet for sale as well.
you can email me at: yeldarbvr4gt at furnscales .com (no spaces & replace at with @)
I am also planning on attending the reptile show in taylor as a vendor in a month two & then everymonth after that. -Brad

Re: Rat Breeders - Where are you
I'm in Toledo, OH. We breed standard rats only (no mice or ASF). Right now I'm mostly working with Black or Beige Hooded, Siamese, Albino, Mink, Beige Selfs and Black Selfs plus the occasional Berkshire or Irish/English. All the rats are normal coat, top eared other than one new dumbo.
Oh that'll be nice to have another rodent vendor at Taylor, Brad. I'll have to look you up there. :)

Re: Rat Breeders - Where are you
I breed rats and mice, and I'm just north of St. Paul MN. But I generally don't sell to the public. Whatever I don't use myself goes to a few friends. My main reason for breeding rodents is because it saves me a couple hundred dollars a month on my food bill.

Re: Rat Breeders - Where are you
I actually just started not too long ago. But its pretty rewarding and will save me some money every week, I have two females and one male who between the two females gave me 24 little ratties...

Re: Rat Breeders - Where are you
I am close to Kingman, Golden Valley, Lake Havasu, Parker - Arizona. Also just across the bridge from Laughlin, Nevada - drive a little ways out another way and there's Needles, California, so I'm in the middle of many areas. :) I breed blacks, mostly. All forms of blacks. Hooded, capped, solid, berkshire, etc. I just started a fawn line, but not yet "there" in terms of litters and the like. There are other litters that I breed for no particular color, just for health. Absolutely NONE of my lines are inbred. I take notes on ALL litters, even just the prey item ones. I keep track of any health issues, any difficult deliveries, etc and ensure that no unhealthy animals are bred and any female that had any difficulty with a litter is immediately retired and upped to "pet" status.
I haven't had many chances to sell publically, but everyone that knows me, knows that I am a seller of my litters, too. I just do not know many people around me that has reptiles, or wants rats as pets. So, for now, I consider my breeding a private hobby, trying to get word out there that I'd like to turn it into a public hobby.
