BCI or Borneo STP
I'm ready for a new snake soon, but I cant decide which I like better since I like them both so much. I understand that blood's have strict husbandry care, and im ready for that. I know they can be aggressive. Both will be big in thier own way. I guess my question is which should I go with first? also sometimes my room gets up to 85ish and cage temp hit's about that will a blood be ok with temps like that for a few hot summer days or will I be finding a stressed out snake?

Meh, a couple of stitches should be expected sooner or later, snake might have a bad day etc. I'd plan on going with a 3x2 cage *I should add with a baby STP i'd start off in a 15qt Tub or so* with belly heat, and a radiant heat panel for ambient/cool side, but if the cage hits 85* for a few hours during a hot day, will it be potentally fatal or will I be ok?

These guys need a spot in the cage where they can escape the heat. Blood's are prone to stress out if husbandry isn't up to par. IMHO I wouldn't keep any snake in a room if there was a risk they can be exposed to too much heat. If it was me I would setup a cage and monitor it for a while and see if the temps stay within the limits. Just to be sure. :)

Re: BCI or Borneo STP
Both bloods and larger locales of BCI would really do better in a 4x2 cage when full grown.

Re: BCI or Borneo STP
Females will do well in 4ft cages and males 3ft. height doesnt matter..and width at least 2ft.

Re: BCI or Borneo STP
I wonder how many new keepers thinking about a blood python have ever had the chance to really hold and manage a full-grow blood python - they are BIG - maybe not as long as a BCI, but comparable in weight in just a shorter length and equally powerful. Honestly, I'd go for a boa before a STP.

Re: BCI or Borneo STP
I have both, and I would say, based solely on what your sig says you keep, you would do better with a boa. Probably enjoy it more too.

I agree with this 100%
You have a bp, and a beardie. the logical step in progression would be a boa. They are very forgiving as far as husbandry (relative of course). The blood may not be so forgiving, and are known to be far more aggressive than your common BCI

Re: BCI or Borneo STP
yup I agree I have 2 ball pythons and one blood python
even though I got lucky and got a calm blood I still have to be more gaurded with her she might not wrap herself around you like a BP she sure can in a hurry if she decides to
and I don't let her get close to face I hold her down lower because if anyone has ever seen a blood python strike
they are fast don't let the thick heavy bodies fool you because when they do they hurl their entire body at you full force and they have teeth to carry it out haha
you need to be more calm and move slower with them
or they will stress and strike
