    Spinoff thread for Mommies
The thread about singing gave me an idea for what I hope is an interesting question.

Most moms sing to their babies, whether we should or not ;)
And most of us have special songs for each baby. What were/are YOUR songs?

For Marc, it was "You Are My Sunshine". He's 7 now, so if I start singing it, he yells "Hey, I'm not a baby anymore!". :D

For Courtney, I sang "More Than Words". A few years ago, she actually found a Mother's Day card with a CD containing that single and got it for me. Ok, yeah, that made me bawl like a baby.

Wow this thread takes me back.....and yes I did sing to the babies (poor dears, it's amazing they can even hear nowadays!)

For Katelyn is was..."K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
    You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
    When the m-m-m-moon shines,
    Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door."

I know, odd song from the around 1920 to sing to a baby but she adored it. :)

Because I was raised by my scots grandmother I heard a lot of her nursery songs so naturally those became my favorites to sing to my own babes.

Ali Bali, Wee Willie Winkie, and some odd song I've never known the title to but was all about a little birdie doing it's "business" on the window sill LOL. I also loved to sing them You Are My Sunshine and Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

I sang hymns and such to my babies. Amazing Grace always seemed to be the most soothing for both them and for me.

Also, when my 2nd child was born, I wrote a lullaby to him and sang it both to him and his brother that was born many years later.

I'll write the words...but I wish I could sing it for ya...

Wavin' wavin' wavin' little arms, little arms
    Kicking kicking kicking little legs
Grinnin' grinnin' grinnin' little charms, little charms
    Nodding nodding nodding little head.

Sleepy little eyes, looking up at me
Sweetest, purest blue that you could ever see!
When I talk to God, I tell Him gratefully,
Thank You for the boy that You have given me!

Wavin' wavin' wavin' little arms, little arms
    Kicking kicking kicking little legs
Grinnin' grinnin' grinnin' little charms, little charms
    Nodding nodding nodding little head.

Soon your little hands will learn to wave bye bye,
Learn to play with toys, and reach up for the sky!
I'll lead you in God's ways, so He'll be glorified,
I dedicate you son, to the Lord Most High!

Wavin' wavin' wavin' little arms, little arms
    Kicking kicking kicking little legs
Grinnin' grinnin' grinnin' little charms, little charms
    Nodding nodding nodding little head.

    Nodding...nodding...nodding...little head....

Makes me miss having a baby to sing to.....

Alright, while I'm not a Mom, I am a full time stay at home dad that gets to play with snakes all day :)

Our first son is now 7 months old and I also sing your my sunshine to him at-least 10 times a day.... He by far and away is the single greatest gift, most wonderful treasure in the world.

Growing up I pretty much raised my sister (16 years younger) and remember rocking her to sleep singing "you are so beautiful to me"

Awwww, you all are making me get a little teary! And miss having sweet smelling babies to cuddle.

Gorgeous boy you have there, Neil, those brown eyes are amazing. And of course I should have said parents, Daddies sing too, stay-at-home or not.

Not a mom here either...just a stay at home dad and grandpa. I always sang "You are so beautiful" (at least I think that is the name of it) to my kids and still do to my granddaughter.

Ack I'm all teary now! Quick who has a baby that needs rocked!

Judy, that's a beautiful song you composed. I know in my heart your children will treasure it and hopefully sing it to your grandbabies one day.

Kudos to all the moms and dads that raise these little bundles of joy. They are our most precious gifts to ourselves and the world they will walk into. :)

aww.. I sang all kinds of songs to my kids...I too am amazed they can hear. Wee Willie Winkie, mockingbird, to name two and of course, if the radio was on, I sang whatever song was playing. My youngest is almost a month old now.. and I think she likes country music, she gives a crooked smile when I sing to her.

here she is, sorry just had to show her off:

heh.. thanx.. I love to show off all my kids, but I also know how some people feel being subjected to photos of kids or grandkids.. I say phooey on them, but gotta respect their feelings on the matter too. :D I try to keep peace..... but thank you on the compliment of my little girl.

Haha well here, I'll inflict everyone with the worst picture of me in existance, but it is the only picture I have scanned in of Courtney as a baby. She was born long before scanners or digital cameras were a household necessity :P

I would dance around and sing with all my kids... still would if they weren't so big! :O
I never had any particular song(s) for them, I sang the songs that I liked best, everything from AC/DC to Loreena Mckinnet to Reba. :)

My husband did, however, make up songs for each of them when they were born. They got "their" songs sang to them all the time and still do even though they are now 7, 6, 4 and 2 and they still love them. My 6 year old is on a quest to learn her brother and sisters songs so SHE can sing them and annoy her siblings!

7, 6, 4 and 2! Whoaaaa you're a busy mom I bet! Your 6 year old daughter sounds a lot like my daughter Beth personality-wise. Bethie walked at 9 months....we swear it was just to irrate her older sibs! lol

Ashely those boys of yours are too cute for words! One of the best things I think about being a parent (other than the sticky kisses, hugs and I wuv you's) is seeing the world again through their eyes.

Actually it's 11, 7, 6, 4 and 2 but my oldest lives in another state with her father :(
But yes, I am a very busy mom with large bald spots on either side of my head! :P
Brandi (my 6 year old) is a hand full, that's for sure! She's just like her mom...er, I mean, just like her DAD...yeah :D

At least they aren't ALL exactly like me (thanks God for small favors) but I do have to give Brandi credit, even though I'll be desperately looking for a rock to hide under once she hits 13... she's got one heck of a good head on her shoulders and is one smart cookie... part of the reason I'll be wanting to run away later on!

with my kids... they each have their own song which i made up just for them.

my eldest is a version of "rock a baby" (similar to rock a bye-baby)

my son is "momma loves me" (sang to the tune of jesus loves me)

my youngest is completely made up... "emma bodema and a dippity do... emma bodema we love you..." when she was a baby her best friend was emma and she just loved hearing her name. if she was crying and i started singing this... she'd calm down immediately!

Ooooh, Aleesha, that is so sweet! Wish I had come up with that "Momma Loves You" idea when mine were babies. Maybe I can do that with the grandkids some day. FAR in the future, lol.

Always seems in a family...you've got one of em! LOL "Hoss" used to toddle into the room as a baby, and both cats and our dog would immediately stand up in unison and exit the room LOL. They knew better than stick stick around the little girl in diapers would wanted to love em and hug em and boss em around! (she was sort of like that cartoon girl and her cat!)

One day when "Hoss" was 6 our cat didn't get away quick enough. Mike and I were sitting having coffee when the cat wandered by. Mike noted that she looked a tad odd....apparently the cat didn't come with bright red whiskers and a purple stripe down her back!!! Further investigation revealed a certain daughter of mine decided the cat needed make-up and having raided her older's sisters hidden stash of permanent markers.....decorated our cat! "Hoss" is 13 now and still insists that the cat looked quite nice LOL.

    Re: Spinoff thread for Mommies
When my 2 were little, i never really had a special song for each of them. Just sang whatever was on the radio at the time or whatever little lullaby popped into my head (You Are My Sunshine, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, etc.). Although when Chenoa was still in utero, when ever the song Can't Escape My Love by Enrique Iglesias (I think) would play, she would get all kicky and stuff, and she would only do it with that song. I used to take it as maybe she was dancing, but now that I think about it maybe she was trying to say "Oh No Mom, not THAT song again!!". :)

But now whenever I sing, both of them yell "Stop Singing!!" and try to put their hands over my mouth. :( So I try to subject them to my singing as much as possible in the car....LOL. Although now they have gotten to singing songs off the radio themselves and it is soooooo cute!!!

Here are a couple of pics of my group.

This is from just after last Christmas, it was taken in St. Augustine, FL.
Starting from the left there's Cassie(11), Chenoa(4), Brittany(13),My husband Darrel, and our son Kayden(2).
    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/files/6/1/1/4/073.JPG

And I had to add this in here. It was our last day in FL. and we had spent all evening outside my sis-in-laws house around a fire cooking hotdogs, roasting marshmallows, and of course for the kids playing in dirt. So my son has a mixture of dirt and marshmallows on his face. LOL They were both so tired!!
    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/files/6/1/1/4/160.JPG

Here's a slightly better pic of my two youngest. Still dirty, but alot more happy looking!!!
