PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Ok I have been thinking about building a rack system for my snakes for a while now. I have always just thought about using wood but I would like to use PVC board, however, I haven't been able to find it for sale anywhere.
Does anyone know of a place that sells it?
Thank you

Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Call a boat building place. Its going to be VERY pricey. Its called starboard. I get 8' x 4' sheets for free, because I work with a marine mechanic.
But it will be cheaper to buy a comercial rack online, than biulding one outta HDPVC. you need, Atleast 1/2" think material.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Cool thank you for that piece of info. PVC board is definitely out of the question then.
Hmm Iam just afraid to use wood because of the pores and what not in it. But maybe Laminated wood would be good....
Again Thank you
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
i just built a new rack out of melamine covered wood and it cost me $110 for the wood, $40 for the supplies, and $40 for the heat. it was simple to make to. i am going to put a thread on it later, i am waiting for the heat now. but let me know and i'll send you a link to the directions.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
hi i have two rack built out of the pvc foam board and you should beable to find it at any place that sells plastic's
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Yup, open your yellow pages and start calling local plastics distributors. I recently got enough to make a rack that holds 7 of the 41 qt tubs for ~$175 for all the pieces of 3/8" PVC cut to size. It is definately not cost prohibitive to build your own out of PVC.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Could you not use Plexiglass?? That might be cheaper than the PVC.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Once you get into about 3/8" - 1/2" plexi, you start getting into big bucks.
Plus its very hard to cut without damaging the whole edge.
Also, it wouldnt look too good with all the screws in it.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Melimane is just as good, if you wanna build your own
It will give you about 2-3 years, maybe more if well kept. It might be heavy, but not too much heavier than a plastic rack.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
Thank you everyone. Tomorrow afternoon Iam going to start calling around to different distributors.
Iam defiantly going to check into Melamine.
Kagez28 - Those directions would be wonderful.
Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
you could but it would leave way to much light in. just look at it this way would you like to live in a glass house.

I actually had the coloured plexiglass in mind. It comes in black, pink, purple, orange... Well, you name it and they have it.

Then it gets about 10% more expensive that clear.

Re: PVC board....WHERE to find IT
I just posted this in another thread...
Try looking for a distributor near by that sells Komatex or Sintra Expanded PVC. I use Piedmont Plastics and their Aquaplas 1 product is WONDERFUL!! 1/2" thick it is nearly identical to the white product that Animal Plastics uses.
My problem is I can't stop building stuff out of it!
Good Luck!
