Thanks gang...it was a blast. Hawaii it totally about the views and scenery. I took over 500 pics of the views and trees...Every tree you saw had flowers all over it (even the 30'+ ones)
If you get a chance to go jump at it...well worth the exorborant cost (ex. food is about double what it costs here - milk was $8 a Gallon !!!)

Ha! I gotcha beat. I took 2000 pictures!
Anyway, I'm guessing you stayed on the big island. I love that second sea turtle pic. Very nice. Did you try any of the cliff jumping? Snorkeling?
Congrats, and welcome back.

Wow...that is alot of pics (I have about 1000 total -500 scenery and 500 other stuff)
Yes, we stayed the whole week on Hawaii (in Kona) . I didn't try the cliff jumping but I snorkled at the Capt. Cook Monument - supposed to be the best snorkling in the islands and I have to kick myself for not getting an underwater camera before hand as it was like swimming in a fish tank - absolutely gorgeous!!
I also snorkled with the sea turtles you see above...they were beaching at a black sand beach on the south end of the island and there must have been 15+ in the water with me...very cool and unforgettable.
I have to say the one thing I really enjoyed was the Kona Coffee...makes anything we have hear taste like cheap folgers....it is stellar but Oh so expensive (something like $40 per pound)

Re: Hawaii - The Return
HEY COOL! I went snorkeling there too, but it was overcast and the pictures did not come out well. That was an awesome place to snorkel! I loved the turtles, and it's hard to describe the feeling when you're next to these animals. They're just so much bigger than you'd expect.
Did you try the poi? I wussed out on that one, but I absolutely loved their purple Taro bread. Yum!
We also brought back Kona coffee for all the parents, and they all loved it. In fact, my inlaws want more. You just gotta watch the label to make sure it's 100% Kona coffee.
Did you get to swim with any rays? I didn't see any while I was there, and I missed seeing the shark while on one of our diving tours. Although I consider that a bit of a blessing because I might have been making my way back to the boat.

I tried the Poi....then renamed it Poo Poo it was the nastiest stuff I have even eatin. Never got to try the bread though. We went to a Lui au and the roast pork was awesome as were the pork wrapped in banana leaves (forget the hawaiian name)

I found a couple of website in Kona that will ship me some...about $35 a pound so I ordered some...as we too brought it back and everyone loved it.

Yes and it was the freakest thing I have ever done as you have to do it at night. I was off the balcony of the Kona Resort Hotel and they have huge spot lights that attact the plankton which the rays feed on...so around 9 pm it is pitch black and we get into the water and swim out about 15 feet. You cannot see anything (nor hear anything) and it is surreal...but you can see a glow from the lights...then out of the deep shadow a slow moving form glides in and shortly you can see these huge 9' across rays come in. It was soooo cool...but I was scared to death.
As for the sharks the day we left is when that guy from Ohio got attacked by an 8' Tiger in Wikiki.

Re: Hawaii - The Return
I saw that place, and I'd like to go back there. That sounds like SOOO much fun, but I'm sure I'd be a bit freaked out myself. I don't really like the water at night. WAAAYYY too creepy for me.
I never heard about the shark attack. Good thing though. Of course, people kept talking about the helicopters going down BEFORE I got on one. (my husband despaired of ever getting me on it - I kept seeing him trying to shush them before I heard! I've got radar for that kinda stuff!) When one of the other snorklers saw the shark the first thing the guides asked was did it have stripes... they said no and then we were ok to keep going otherwise it was going to be a free for all to get back on the boat.
Did you hike upto the volcano? I love that picture of the lava tubes! VERY COOL.
