    Started Mural
I finally started the mural on my patio last week. I decided to do a saltwater angelfish scene. I'm about half done with it now. I have about 16 hours in (not including drawing and cutting out the stencils), but the 1st 4 were washed away in a storm on the second day of painting, so I had to start over again. I have more fish, coral and plants to add, and I'm adding a cave and a mako shark. Almost everything I have so far needs to be hand painted and touched up, but I think it's coming along.

    Nasty wall before I started

You did that with spray paint right??

Did you use all those different sized tips or just the basic ones that come already on the can?

I rolled on primer and a navy blue base coat, but the rest is all spray paint. I used the stock nozzles. I planned to buy a bunch of tips, but I couldn't find any around where I live, and once I had the paint I had to get started. It would go a lot smoother with a nice set of nozzels, but It's not too bad.

    Well, its looks great!! :gj:

You can buy them online, but looks like you never needed the tips in the first place. You have mad crazy talent!!

Plus I think I heard something about the smaller/thinner tips not really doing much difference. I can't remember though.

I had a bunch of tips back in my teenage years ;) and they are useful, I just couldn't wait to jump into this one. The main problem is that for some reason the paint I bought have different tips, even though they are all the same kind. That causes some headaches. I should have waited and ordered some, especially since my 1st 2 days of work got washed away. It stormed last night and it held up, so I'm good now. I have a lot more to do, but you're able to see where it's headed. I'll be sure to post more pics as I progress. I hope to add a few more hours tonight if the weather cooporates.

And for those that are wondering what those fish are in the close ups...I can try and name them for you...

    French Angel...or Grey Angel...tricky

Imperator aka Emperor Angel (My favorite)

    Annularis aka Blue Ring Angel

and in the whole shot I see a Maculous Angel, Regal Angel, Cherub Angel, Half Black Angel....

Excellent representations of all of them...Bravo!

I must have done OK. You just about got 'em all! No Maculous or Cherub unless they have different names. So far I have
    French Angelfish
    Emperor Angelfish
    Annularis Angelfish
    Half Black Angelfish
    Regal Angelfish
    Queen Angelfish
    Blue Angelfish
    Asfur Angelfish
    Flameback Angelfish
    Flame Angelfish
but you can't see them all in the pics. This is only about 6' of the 9-10' wall.

It looks like the rain here is starting to cause the paint and primer to leak and drip. I have a feeling that after a little while the mural will be ruined. I'm not working on it until it rains a few more times to see what happens, but it looks like I'm going to have to paint it back to a solid wall :O

That would be SO sad!! Especially after so many hours and such hope of a beautiful wall to look at. Isn't there any sort of sealant you could spray or paint over the top of it to protect it from the weather? (Although I understand it may be a bit late for that for this attempt :( ...but maybe you could try to get it done between bad weather rounds and then seal it? )

    Re: Started Mural
I was planning on sealing it with polyurathane, and I might try to seal it now, and again after I finish. I just don't know if it will do any good. I washed the wall, used 3 coats of Killz ext. primer, a coat of ext paint and all ext. spray paint, but the wall still seems to ooze paint. I can't explain it, but I think that because the wall is underground that it's just so saturated that if can't be painted. I hope it doesn't get worse so I can finish. I've put in so much time and money, and it was going really good. I'm to the point where I can envision the final product, but I might never make it there.

    Re: Started Mural
:( I didn't think of that. Might be that the moisture is coming through the porous cement from the ground on the other side. Dunno what sealing the top layer of cement will do for that. Maybe ask the guys at Home Depot, or some cement contractor type dude if they have any recommendations for salvaging the project?

I have no creative talent at all so to see someone actually paint with a spray can a mural that looks so beautiful fills me with awe.
