Something wrong..
So I took out my YB today to play with him and let him get some exercise, when I noticed something very strange- where its normally a nice, gloden yellow on his side by his belly, is purple and grey!! Its mainly by his tail, and hes acting completely normal... Any ideas on what it could be?

Re: Something wrong..
from what I can make out in the pic, it looks as though he's bruised, possibly from broken ribs, although I cannot be certain. I would get him to a qualified herp vet immediately.

Re: Something wrong..
i can't see anything...
but if you are that worried about it, take him to a vet.

Re: Something wrong..
Do keep in mind that your female could have easily bitten and constricted him, causing bruising/broken ribs/internal damage. Also, if it had been something like a fungal infection(which it doesn't look to be) your female would also be very susceptible to contracting it.
Housing them separately(except for brief periods for breeding) is very important to their health and well-being. They are not a social species and do not require nor do they appreciate company.

No, I know my female didnt constict him or bite him- he would be dead if she constricted him and marks if shed bitten him.. And for some reason, I have no clue why, they feed better when I house them together. I feed them at the same time, but seperatly and always have, but for some reason whenever I put them into seperate cages they become very finnicky and more tense.. Ive never seen or heard of this happening before, but with them its true... Out of curiousit, has enyone EVER heard of something like this? Because I know snakes are not pack animals or 'mates for life' or anything...

Re: Something wrong..
Hi,
Well that sounds like a perfectly normal reaction to a change in environment.:)
Have you left them seperated for at least a month to see how they settle in and if it affects their feeding patterns and behaviour longterm?
On the feeding thing I was reading a thread earlier that mentioned competitiveness for food when housed together. ( no link sorry - it's late and I'm a little groggy).

Re: Something wrong..
They were seperated for longer then that and acting wierd. Plus, the female stays in the same enclosure the whole time, only the male moves. But they both act weird.. Its messed up..

Re: Something wrong..
Yeah, messed up is ONE way to put it.

Re: Something wrong..
well if your feeding them in the same container then it is possible that they may have gotten tangled and one may have constricted the other!!!
