A few pics from Sea World last week **DUW**

The wife and I went for a (too) short trip to San Diego last week, and I finally got these pics uploaded. We only really had one full day, and Robin had never been to Sea World, so that's exactly where we went. The camera was kinda acting up, and a lot of shots just didn't come out, but here are a few.

Not the best pic here, but the archerfish tank is kinda different. It's a bowfront, but bowed from top to bottom, and the water line is in the middle. They fed while we were looking at 'em, but only flake food :(. I was hoping to see some shootin'!

Ya gotta love how cheesy the Shamu show can be sometimes :rolleyes:, but whatever helps educate the public and raise conservation awareness right?

Very nice pictures. My cousin and I went to the Sea World down in FL a few years back. That was fun. I sure wouldn't mind going again.

I love the cheesy shots of Shamu. All kids just love him/her. Looks like you had a great time!

Thanks guys! It's always a challenge to get good shots of fish behind acrylic, colors are always off, and the glare....:( . I have had a place in my heart for Sea World ever since college when my ichthyology class got to go "behind the scenes" and see their filtration systems, food prep areas etc. as well as their wildlife rehab. They really do a lot for conservation in general, which helps me deal with paying $12 for a club sandwich :rolleyes:

I'm a member, though I don't think I have ever made a post. I do browse there regularly though. I have a lot of respect for the people that have dropped large amounts of money, and a fair amount of space in their home to house a couple big fish. At my work we are planning a rainforest exhibit hall, and I'm really pulling for a large FW exhibit. For now, our many donated black pacu will have to tide me over :D . What do you keep Jason?

I don't usually post there....more of a lurker/browser. Currently the only "giants" I have are Protomelas taeniolatus (Red Empress) which top out at around 10"... and a few other african cichlids.

I tore down my two salt tanks, picking up some free 55 gallons....I'm making room for a "few" Red Devil fry that are coming all the way from Canada, and a few other New World cichlids...Nandopsis tetracanthus (Cuban Cichlid), Herichthys carpintis "Escondido", and Amphlilophus festae....plus a few more eventually.

One day I would like to keep some Dovii (Wolf Cichlids) and Caquetaia umbrifera...but they'll need an indoor pond or giant aquarium.

Fish tanks are like ball pythons...you can't have just one. I may try my hand at making a plywood "pond" for some larger fish...or just buy a "nice" sized stock tank.

I love the umbies, big and beautiful! I currently have no tanks at home, though I occasionally think about setting one up again. I take care of enough systems all day at work, that I don't really want to go home and do the same. Most of our stuff is SW though, so I do get compultions to set-up a large cichlid or jardini tank sometimes. So far I have been good :D .

That's how it is for me...I work ALL day taking care of saltwater...its gotten to the point where I don't want to deal with it at home...so I've jumped back on board the freshwater ship...time to deal with some big guys.
