Well thats my thought. Everytime i feed her she takes the prey constricts then when its dead she keeps her mid body constricted around it and starts trying to roam around(looks like shes looking for it ) Its like when you are looking for your keys or something and they are right in front of you or worse yet they are in your hand. lol. I still cant get over how tiny she is. she like a month and a half and a mouse fuzzy looks ginormous. lol.

She's checking the area to make sure it's safe to settle in and eat. Swallowing a mouthful of whole prey makes any snake, but especially a baby one, very vulnerable to attack. They can't easily flee or fight back if something came at them during this time so they'll have a look around first. All three boas we've had from a little one to one over 6 feet did basically the same thing to some degree or other.

so, i'm not real PC myself, but i'd appreciate it if in the future you wouldn't use the word 'retarded' in a public place unless actually talking about someone who is mentally challenged. i don't wanna come off as a :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: but my uncle had retardation and he's probably the best person i've ever known.

shes talking about a snake.....a snake with a very small brain.

Also....why is it not okay for her to say her snake is retarded (which he isnt) but if she were to actually be talking about someone who is in fact mentally challenged it would be perfectly fine ??

you and me both! Same thing with my cell phone.. the mail.. my shoes.. glasses.. and I am only 27.

My BCI does this also. I noticed it when I had people over who wanted to watch him eat, and someone moved and distracted him between striking/coiling and eating. He responded to the motion as a snake would in the wild that had been disturbed by a predator while eating. I kindly yelled at my friend and covered the boa cage up with a blanket, and eventually he settled down and ate his rat. :)

I gotta agree with that Melanie. I don't like when people use the word in a discriminating way either, same as with the word "gay". Saying something is gay, like saying being gay is stupid, same with the word retard.

As for the snake, Its fine. They usually do grow out of it pretty quick. I would bump up the rat size a bit though

My wife has an aunt and step-brother who are both mentally retarded in some way (Autism and I *think* down's syndrome), so I find it irritating when people use retarded as a synonym for stupid.

However, even though it's obviously in poor taste, most of the people I've met who say that are way too short sighted to realize that it's awfully insensitive. For instance, my wife's sisters both call stuff retarded all the time, and have the same relatives as my wife.

Anyhoo.... that's a cool boa. One day, I'd love to get one.

I totally agree with you. My best friends brother had Downs, he gone now:tears:. I think the missuse of words can be very hurtful, even if there not meant to be.

If the original poster, actually thought that his snake might have special needs, and was being serious about it.. that would not bother me. But like the others said; "retarded" in a joking sense is pretty wrong. I am sure that we all know someone who's handicapped (my husband's sister is, due to a pretty traumatic injury when she was very young.) It Is pretty tasteless to laugh about a medical issue. People wouldn't (hopefully) make fun of someone who acted diabetic, or blind.. no different.
