Re: Cell Providrs
We have Sprint and so far I've been pretty happy with it. We move a lot and have lived in a lot of different cities since signing up several years ago, and have had mostly excellent reception wherever we've lived. It travels well.

Re: Cell Providrs
cingular/att for meeeeee...family in Arkansas means free mobile to mobile :D

Re: Cell Providrs
I've been with Verizon for 13 years if you count the time that I was with AirTouch (who Verizon acquired). I have no desire to switch, I love their customer service (I have one store that I go to all the time), I love the free new phone every two years (or $100 credit), and I never pay roaming. Plus most of our friends and family are on Verizon, so all our calls are free.

Re: Cell Providrs
i've always used t-mobile and i'm super pleased with it. i get reception pretty much everywhere, there is no roaming, t-mobile to t-mobile calls are free, nights and weekends are free and i have a family plan so my husband and i are both on the same plan with a good amount of minutes. i've never had a problem with the service and can upgrade phones for free or for cheap every year. my boss has t-mobile and travels overseas quite a lot and he likes them because his phone still works everywhere he goes.

Re: Cell Providrs
I have also been with Verizon since the AirTouch days... and i am pretty happy.

Re: Cell Providrs
I've been with Verizon since 2002 and have never had a problem. I have service just about everywhere that I've gone (FL to Canada). I've had a few problems with the phone(s) I've had but usually they are very nice about fixing them or giving out a new one, etc. Customer service is great too. I plan to sticking with them.

Re: Cell Providrs
I have Sprint, and I have NO service ANYWHERE, except in the middle of no where West Texas.....Crasy....So I voted att because I have had them before and all the others, and ATT was better than them all.

Re: Cell Providrs
Verizon is the only one that gets a signal out here. I can get a signal out in the woods. Oddly enough, you get a better sig outside than indoors. I would have a beter conversation out in the woods than in my living room. :)

Re: Cell Providrs
I have cingular and love it, the service and coverage area is awesome. Hardly every have dropped calls that is related to my service, usually the person I am talking to is in a bad area. Have had the razor for who knows how long, and although all I hear are people gripping about it, I actually really like it. The phones I am seeing out these days is really making me to want to hang on it to it for as long as possible, upgrading phones are getting too expensive. Dude in my class just got this new phone, has a keyboard and everything, touch screen, the works, $450.....getting insane.

Re: Cell Providrs
AirTouch/Verizon for eons. Did the ATT before Cingular and they were so-so okay.
I don't switch b/c now I'm on month-to-month-- my 2 yr agreement is completed and I don't want to sign another one. Had over $600 due to my former fiance and his keeping the phone and all his charges, and they (V) canceled my contract and charged me the early termination fees. Took me a while to pay it off, but that's all done with. If I went anywhere else, there's smaller coverage area, or no coverage at all when I travel to E Oregon to see family.
Doesn't matter where you go or who U do biz with, all the fees are just legal rip-offs, but since it's the only phone contact I have, I just keep the handset (phone hardware) until it dies. I don't do the new phone every 1-2 years. Don't see the need when I don't give a fig about the MP3, texting or anything besides vmail or call-forwarding, -waiting.
V's pretty good (fair to middlin') about giving me credit for dropped calls. Unfortunately, even around here, there are A LOT of dead spots where the calls get dropped, but overall, they're the best option for my needs....they just didn't tell me c. the long distance calls fees and some calls east of Idaho ended up being .20/min. so my bill was over $250. *%*%&%&$*$( Now I pay $5 for unlimited long distance.
My sister is Verizon, and "IN" so all my calls to her and her family are free. :)

Re: Cell Providrs
I used Cingular for years, in fact my company phone is still Cingular. Their reception is pretty good around here, not too many dropped calls, etc. We decided to switch our personal phone to Verizon about 2 weeks ago because of the consumer report article that said it was best carrier in the US on reception.
Well, we haven't been thrilled with the recpetion so far, especially inside of buildings. I've gone back to the Verizon store (great customer service BTW) and they did something to the phone. Unfortunately, it hasn't helped. We have 2 more weeks on the 30 day free trial (which I really like - no termination fee if cancelled within 30 days of start). At this point we are really leaning toward going back to Cingular.

I have a RazR phone also with Verizon. Everyone is constantly griping about this phone, I agree, but mine gives me no problems. I swear, i will use this phone until it either falls apart or gets dropped in the water trough or something :)

Re: Cell Providrs
i'd like to file an official complaint. as a canadian i cannot vote as we don't have any of those providers.
:banned1:

Re: Cell Providrs
I had Sprint and Einstein in the past and didn't like either of them. I've been with Cingular/AT&T for 4 years now without a single complaint.
We are actually heading to AT&T right now because Randy's phone was stolen from his car so I'll let you know how it goes. We've never had to have replacements from lost/broken phones before. I'm interested to see how what we have to pay.

Re: Cell Providrs
I've got cingular/att right now, but my contract is up in Jan or Feb-ish and I think I'm giong to get rid of them. I don't have any problem with the service (no dropped calls, etc.) but the money is the problem for me. I was with US Cellular for a short time, and my mom wanted me to change b/c she had just gotten Cingular and then we could use the cell to cell thing. But Cingular has been consistantly higher priced, and I liked the sevice I had with US Cellular.
Ah, I also lost my phone a few weeks ago, and the cheapest phone I could find with Cingular was $200!! I almost died! I just want something to use to call people, and text some times....I don't want all the other stuff. Cingular isn't even makeing phones anymore that don't have all of that. I don't know about the other companies, but I wasn't real thrilled...

Re: Cell Providrs

Re: Cell Providrs
I use Nextel because that is what my employer originally paid for me to have and the small town I live in finally got a tower so my wife and I each have one and no land line phone. I use the direct connect frequently for work except the building I'm in now blocks all signals which is both a good and annoying thing. I didn't vote but Sprint and Nextel are partnered of course but they are not technically on the same plane service wise. For example if you have Nextel you can't "two-way" a sprint customer...at least I don't think think you can yet.

Re: Cell Providrs
I use the CB..err I mean Nextel/Sprint and I basically hate it :D

Re: Cell Providrs
The walkie talkie feature is the bomb, but I hate the service. That is what my dads employer makes them get.

Re: Cell Providrs

Re: Cell Providrs
In the past 10 years I have used both T-Mobile and AT&T/Cingular. The only reason I switched to AT&T from T-Mobile was because I had no signal at my old house.
I'm now with AT&T because that is where my husband works so we get a great deal on price. If it wasn't for that, I'd be back with T-Mobile as I have always liked their plans and service.
I'd suggest that you look into who gives the best reception where ever you spend the most time. If you're not sure who would be best at home, invite a couple of friends over who are all on different networks and see who has the best signal. ;-)
Good luck!

Re: Cell Providrs
I currently use Sprint and let me just say, stay away from them. Its been nothing but a nightmare dealing with extra charges and fees. My cousin used my phone to look at one website and it cost me $110. I fought it for a month but they wouldnt drop it so im about to drop them.

Re: Cell Providrs
? Any1 know of a good site for instructions on SIM card swaps??? I have 3 handsets, and the one I'm currently using.. the battery is 8 yrs old. To replace it is $50. I mentioned it and the CS person said look at the website "under activate a new phone" but that's for things like the LGs, RazRs and newest stuff. I have a Nokia 6K series phone I want to use, just swap the phone number w/o having to pay the obnoxious fee at one of the Verizon vendor stores.
Any suggestions?
Thanx!

Not sure about Verizon, but with Nextel phones you can just remove and replace the SIM cards from phone to phone, thats it. No silly stuff...just remove from old phone and then insert into the new phone. Then BAM the new phone works.
But I think if you are trying to upgrade to a newer model some features may not be available with the SIM card from and older model.
