Re: OMG. craigslist horror
I'm far from an expert as I've only seen babies but I thought the yellow anaconda didn't get much over 10 foot - some of our giant keepers would be able to tell you better.

Yeah who knows what this yahoo is talking about... it may not even be a yellow... i wouldn't trust anyone who let a 19 foot snake loose on "accident"

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
 God I hope that is a hoax...first off how did it get out of the house???? If it is true I hope he finds it very quickly before any animals or children go missing:(

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
yellow don't get that long, especially males. a green female might reach that... but i would hope the owner of i giant snake would know the species.
sounds like a hoax, just some kid trying to stir things up.

there are probably people out there that do. it does take years off the life of snakes that are "power fed", so most reputable breeders and keeps won't feed that size prey.

Not a giant keeper here so keep that in mind on my comments. I don't see actually why using goats as a feeder animal for a really huge snake would be any different than feeder pigs. Goats, espcially male kids, are normally sold off as food for the human market. Depending on the size of the goat breed and so forth, I'm unsure why this would be considered an inappropriate prey animal for a giant snake.

I agree. A feeder animal is a feeder animal. I also dont keep giants by the way.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
I've seen that vid before. The goat seems a little large for the snake. But I am with the others if it is appropriately sized what does it matter. You just have to make sure the animals horns are either cut off or just nubs.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
I would also like to ask what makes a goat so much more different then rats? Do they experience the same emotions? It makes sense to me that Instead of feeding their giant snake multiple prey items in on sitting that they use a larger prey item. :confuzd:

for a large snake, where a goat was a good size prey item, i wouldn't call it power feeding. but when you start giving a burmese that should be on large rats or rabbits and you throw him a pig, thats kind of what i meant. to me in the video that goat looked a little big for that snake. and from the background noise, it looks to me like it was fed for the owners pleasure, not the snakes survival.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
There are those that feed a regular size prey item and carry on just like those watching this too.
They might only feed once in 6 months so they think it's correct. (Not that it is, but I hear folks saying "Oh snakes only eat once a year" and other equally stupid stuff.) They are obviously rather moronic, but the pen is a suitable enclosure too... which seems odd.
I did know one lady who fed goat to her fully grown retic, but they were basically newborns, and they were F/T. She got them from a dairy goat farm. They bred the females, and take the babies in order to milk the moms. No real use for the babies, unless they want to keep a female or two, so she would take them and keep them in her chest freezer for her snakes.
That goat was huge looking for that snake to me.
I don't feel that it's anymore wrong to feed a appropiate sized goat than to feed a appropiately sized pig, or rat. They are all animals, and goats and pigs are even both food animals for people. Rabbits same thing. The key is... is it an appropiately sized prey item? If it is, usually death is fairly quick.
I'd hate to think what kind of injuries those goat hooves would do to the snake while it was kicking and struggling. They can be really sharp.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
i may have wording things wrong before, but i am not against feeding goats, pigs, ect. the only thing i have a problem with is feeding a pray item that is much to large for the snake, just to see it eat.
i have no experience with giants, just book smarts on a majority of them.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
I only posted it because of an apparent 19 foot snake on the loose...... im not a peta activist... i love red meat.

Re: OMG. craigslist horror
just don't understand how u can lose a 19ft snake!!!
-
Re: OMG. craigslist horror
hey just look at all the stupid things us humans due, Losing a 19 foot snake is no different then some of these no fuctioning brain cell people that leave their kids and animals in a car with the windows up in 90+ degree heat. Its plain carelessness.
People do stupid things, I think its ingrained in our DNA, Human instincts? heh heh.
If this guy wants to find it just look for areas with no stray pets. Or disappearing pets.... Reminds me of the story I heard about a guys boa escaping and eating his neighbrs tiny dog.
People let their animals loose and they get hit by cars, its all relative to a persons responsibility, or lack there of..
What is sad is that if this is not a hoax most liklely someone that finds that snake will end up killing it.
