Which hides do you like?

Ok, so below is a pic of the two kinds of hides I'm using currently. Both cost me under a dollar each, and are for relatively small BP's. The bowl is about 6" round, and the tray is 8" round.

Another question.. up to what size do you think these hides would be usable?

personally i use the green ones for all my snakes (different colors and sizes). i don't cut the hole in the top i just use a pair of scissors and make a door on the side.

I use the one on the right. Nice and low so they crawl on top of them and use them as a hide which is nice when using a rack system and height is limited. I don't cut any holes in them either becasue the darker the better inside.

How do they get inside if you don't cut any holes in them?

I use the ones on the right. I buy out all of them at my Walmart regularly. I use a hole saw to cut a hole in the top

I've never had a problem with the little buggers wessling under the lip. Remember snakes are great at escaping and if theres a way they'll find it. Hole or no hole I really like those hides.:)

I have all sizes from small to extra large...Easy to clean and nice and dark for the BP enjoyment!

I use the same ones monk! They are dirt cheap and do the job very well. I keep 2 in every enclosure.

Where do you guys get those for cheap?

I have plastic flower pots that I'm thinking of using for hides. Does cutting the plastic make it dangerous for the snake? It seems that scales could easily get stuck on the thin plastic. Also, when members/owners say the snakes like a tight fit on all sides, does that include their top? I'm worried that if I cut my pots to the size I'm thinking, they will still be too tall. The hide would then be about 8 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall. Sound okay or no?

i prefer the plastic bottoms rather than the pots. like the green one on the right in the first pic.

I go to the 99cent store and get plastic bowls to the size of my snakes and cut hole in the side. Because they are so cheap I keep alot of extras so cleanup is a snap and no hurry. I also have extra tubs for the same reason. Less stress on the snake to just go right into the new/clean setup :cool:

I think plastic is better because if you accidently drop it on the snake no harm. Ceramic can be a nasty injury. Never happened to me but I have heard of it.

well,yeah i got 24,yeah i got 2 hides in each tub, half are in tubs, half on display.yeha hides are different,15 get 1 medium-large rat every 10 days,not one has gone off feed.

i never said i was winging it,did i?no,i said temps,humidity fluctuate,hides and burrows are all gonnabe different in the wild,and no hide is gonna be the same size,not all are gonna touch the snake all round its body.

We are dealing with live animals. We are serious about taking care of our snakes, we are doing what is right, I would hate to see how you take care of your snakes, because you are halfa**ing their care, and not taking it seriously.

I personally like the Exo Terra cave hides, they come in 3 sizes too, maybe not the best but I got 2 the same and my ball python does good with them. I guess what works works.

Very light...the bigger snakes can and do move them all over the tub/cage...

I have been using those green hides and am starting to become annoyed at how much poop and urates gets stuck in the rim. I really like the black hides that monk posted, but they are a good deal more expensive.

Nevermind i'm always late to the party............anyway, i use the same hides as Charlie....although where does everybody get them in bulk cause they are like 7$ at the pet store

I bought a couple of hides that have a hole in the top and a built in water bowl made of black plastic for I think about $7 or $8 dollars apiece from the Beanfarm. These are spacewise efficient. But of course homemade is more cost efficient.
