In lieu of drowning..
Welph, my Jeep has a leak. In heavy rain, water gets in under the passenger door. It pools under the carpeting (which luckily can be unbuttoned from itself, lifted out, and cleaned.. gets right down to the bare metal floor which is easily towel-dried.. but still..) This smells awful inside (akin to wet dog) and I was fed up with the pouring rain..
So I stuffed it in the barn!

Not much clearance!

Backing out should be fun.. the doorway is about 4 inches wider than the Jeep..

I park mine in the barn too :)

Re: In lieu of drowning..
that the 2007 version of the wrangler? we got one of them to :) fix the leak mate. hehe

Re: In lieu of drowning..
We had tested last week with a hose; mark sat inside and i let her rip. Water cale in under the passenger door. I wonder if those rubber floor guard thingies would help? There are none.
I Shop-Vacced out as much as I could; mainly it was wet in the carpeting with a glazing of water over the floor panels. But I had a pair of socks in the back floor, and they were soaked!
I wonder if I could use the caulk around the edge of the door hole?

Re: In lieu of drowning..
With the rain getting to the bare metal, I was thinkin that rust may become a problem in the future. Since you can remove the carpet, have you ever thought about having the floor sprayed with a spray on truck bed liner (rhino lining)?

She's a 2003. :)
2007's actually look a lot different; they are known as the JKs; whereas mine is a TJ. Older versions of the same basic shape are the YJ (square headlights) and CJ (what many purists consider a "true Jeep.." more rugged, bare-bones and raw.

Good thought; I have not thought of that before. I am ordering the thick, deep rubber floor mats that catch water/snow.. we have them for the Nissan in winter and they are superb. you simply dump the water right out the door out of the mat and replace :) They are expensive but worth every cent.
Mark will do something about the Jeep. He is obsessed with preventing water floor damage, due to talking with my neighbor, who somehow installed plastic carpet-covering-type stuff in his Dodge pickup under the carpeting to keep it dry in there. We have had two Pathfinders in the past where the driver's floor was so rotted out that reinforcing welds were needed.

Re: In lieu of drowning..
First thing I'd do if it was purchased from a dealer (sorry if I can't remember the whole story) would be to call them and ask what THEY are going to do for you. Even purchased used they should be willing to fix a simple thing like that since it should have had to go through inspections already. I would push them to offer a solution and make it known that you know that if it is not fixed will potentially lead to rotting the floor boards and ruining who's knows what else (electrical).

Re: In lieu of drowning..
Yeah; Mark mentioned the dealer today. It is a very reputable dealer and they have helped us in the past with problems w/ Mark's new truck and my sister's SUV.. we'll see how this goes.

Re: In lieu of drowning..
I have a 99 Wrangler, and had a similar problem. The A/C hose hangs down right in front of the passenger side. My floorboard filled with water because the water dripping out of the hose would blow back into the passenger side while driving. My husband fixed it by attaching another hose to the A/C hose and securing it farther down on the outside. It took us forever to figure out what was happening. Not sure if you have the same problem. I know that the Jeep came with plastic plugs for the floor holes, I bet you could order them. http://www.quadratec.com/ This place has EVERYTHING for Jeeps - I've ordered several things. Hope this helps.

Oh no! Ginevive don't worry, I'll save you! I have many, many, life savers but you don't get a red one. Those are my favorite so you will have to settle for yellow or green.
It's unfortunate but that's the way it goes. Just like the Starburts, the strawberry's are for me, the yellow ones are for everyone else. My generosity goes only so far. ;)

Hm.. after researching a bit, I am going to look into that. See, we tested it with him sitting in the Jeep and me spraying the hose, and yes, some water did come in from the passenger door while I sprayed hard, with an upward motion, but that is not generally how rain falls :) I don't think it's the door personally.. I am looking into that AC hose idea. It definately drips out while the jeep is parked!
It Is odd, because the wettest times usually are after I drive in the rain; it was actually not even raining bad the one time. And I Did have the AC on..
Oh, thanks for the yellow Life Saver, Earl

Sorry Ginevive, I'll give you a red one, today is just a very silly day.

Re: In lieu of drowning..
So are they scrapping the LJ now? I did not see any out this year at the dealership?
Now everyone's all about that 4-door one; catering to parents and soccer moms. :) But I would imagine there's a market for that, and they are smart to create a vehicle that's family oriented.. still it upsets me that the Wrangler will become so "cushy." I personally would only be interested in a CJ or TJ. And the TJ is pushing it :)
We saw a Nice 50-s CJ driving last week; awesome stuff!

Re: In lieu of drowning..
My guess is either a bad door seal *cheap fix* or have you checked around the firewall for any holes? if there is a hole just add a little silicone to it.

I have yet to see the 4 door on the road. Not a single one.

Re: In lieu of drowning..
Bingo!! The problem is found. yes, the door seal along the upper side of the passenger door, yup, is broken. There's a two-inch rip in it. My guess: the water goes up into it.

Re: In lieu of drowning..
Figured it would be the door seal :) YAY for no more water in your Jeep :D
